Its actually the oldest form of Motorsport! There is a lot of thought in what will work and what you can do to make a car competitive. There is also a lot of technique and approach in how you drive them. Its also very cheap as motorsport goes!

I accidentally stumbled into one of these trials by accident where I live and ive never been so excited to see 60-70 year olds whip around in the mud in classic cars its the most amazing thing Ive ever seen.
Looks like not one of them had their original engine - apart from the very frst one not one sounded like a flat 4 air cooled engine ... I used to get to the top of the hill in Switzerland under heavy snow no problem while Audi 4x4's had to put chains on with my stock '72 Beetle and snow tyres. Just goes to show....
It's probably ok. Most air cooled engines blow air over their selves more and more as RPM increases. Modern liquid cooled engines would also get hot under this use. It's ok
Looks like something I’d do on forza! Really cool. I always marvel at European Motorsports like banger racing and stock hill climb events. The “Ill sue you over anything” mentality us Americans have prevents this stuff from existing here. I wish I could go and see banger racing! I love seeing older cars get used how they should be and not sitting in a wealthy person’s garage for ages seeing nothing but fluorescent lights.
@@why3011 I know we have demo derbies, but where in the US have you seen banger racing or anything like taking old vintage cars off-road in an event. I’ve never seen anywhere that has banger racing in the US. Funny story: in one demo derby I went to, a car went over the barrier and hit the emergency vehicle.
This stuff exists here, you just don’t leave the city lol. There’s combine derbies a few towns over from me. I was on a pit crew for a 2 hour long go kart dirt track endurance race over the summer. Coleman minibike and shitbox rally racing was also occuring at the same event (gambler 500).
That's why 90's compact small cars are so fun to drive. Short wheelbase, higher clearance, with just higher and lower pressure tires you can go almost everywhere. Also nowadays you don't care - it's like 100-200 bucks for such beater car, which you can give back to scrap and get some peanuts back :D
@@colonelslanders71fwd has weight over the drive axle which makes better traction than a front engine rwd. The bugs do well due to having their engine over the drive axles as well.
Rolled onto it side, push it back and everything was fine, great thing about this sport is that everybody take great care of looking after their cars and continually maintain/repair them 👍

A car in which I don't know the name of but the engine is said to not be the sport dohc 1.6 litre but the economy sohc engine Edit: the one in the video is probably swapped hence why it sounds so sporty

@@ItzJigz187 In my knowledge, I am not a car engineer, the weight of the engine sitting far back on the VW plus the independent suspension help the Beetle on traction and no, the Bettle is rear wheel drive not front wheel drive. Only some Porsches are 4 wheel drive.
Anyone notice that after 9:15 min that when that car almost roll, the video is cut off and continued, but after that happened on the far left of the video is a windscreen laying around what was not there before, did that car really roll? Hope not! 😢
I would have thought the Skodas and the bugs would have done better having the engine & gearbox over the back axel. Loved seeing MK1 & MK2 Escorts. I had so many of them.

Most 90s compacts would be front wheel drive. They’d suck on this terrain.
Some of my 80s compacts would get disqualified for making it too easy.

The yellow car obviously rolled over when it hit the left bank and they cut the camera so we couldn’t see it

There was no crashes, slow speed event, not like rallying. These are really enjoyable events.

yes, road tyres only, no lim'd or welded diffs allowed. Great fun and amazing what you can climb with standard tyres.
