I studied in Israel for a year during the early 1970's, just missing the Yom Kippur War by one month -- though I was there during the Munich Olympic Massacre. Even saw Ben Gurion taking his daily walk at his kibbutz Sde Boker. Watching these videos, I can see the major changes in Israel after all these years. Tel Aviv is much more glittery with all the skyscrapers and heavy traffic. In those days, it was not uncommon to see an Arab on camel still riding down the road from Ben Gurion Airport. Now the same road is a multi-lane highway. What was uncommon then was seeing overweight women. Now I see large numbers of overweight women throughout these videos. In fact, the Israeli men would joke about how bottom heavy the American women were. Not anymore. Seems Israeli women are copying America in that category, too. I suppose that's a price for Israel's increased prosperity: more sugar, more eating. Also, in those days Israelis were darker -- more Mizrachi, less Ashkenazi. The joke at the time was: "In Israel, all the Puerto Rican girls are Jewish." Now the faces are much fairer and European/Anglo. Is that because of the millions of Russians that emigrated? One of these days, I'll go back again.
The Russians did indeed affect the balance, but mostly, Israelis are blending. The strong cultural differences between the diaspora communities have largely disappeared, and everyone is marrying everyone else. So the colors get blurred.
You thinking that you know the ethnic distribution of Israel because you spent a year in a kibbutz is quite laughable.
