My hatred for obelisk cannot be expressed properly, if it at least let you use your bonus on the hand it resets (like reset after scoring) it would be somewhat usable but it’s just so bad
Another thing that sucks is if you played a hand that’s tied for most used it still resets rather than letting you alternate between them (like his four vs five of a kind balance)
Maybe it could be better if it worked like green joker where it only loses 0.2x mult each time rather than dropping back to 1x

@@frederf3227 it should be divided by 1.5 because imagine you have x8 on obelisk you accidently play your most played hand now its x4 it would be too brutal tbh
The Obelisk was the first ever rare card I got, and I thought I just didn't understand the game because I found it to be useless.
you're meant to build up a high ammount of hands on a bad hand like high card or pair and only play good hands rarely, and once it's built up to like 20 hands played then you get a big payoff playing every other hand at a .2x mult increase
One thing about obelisks that makes it even more inexcusably bad for me is that if you have two hands tied for most played they it resets for both. That puts a limit on how many hands you can even play before it resets no matter what you do. That also it prevents you from just alternating between two most played hands which I feel like wouldn’t be too extremely op.
I really hope Thunk does something to fix Obelisk, it's SO awful
My apathy for Obelisk can only be cured if they rename it Obelix for the sick reference

Obelisk desperately needs a rework.
Maybe so it decreases rapidly instead of straight up resetting.
Or maybe it could be based on the base value if the hand instead of the amount if times played.

Honestly obelisk should just give 0.1x mult for every time u play a hand thats not ur most played hand, without it resetting.

Nah, it should be reworked entirely. For example making it only lose x0.2 (or perhaps a little more if it becomes too strong) when you play a most played hand instead of resetting it. Then the way it can be good with the right deck and it can be played around.
As it is right now it sucks as a hard, it would suck as a common and you'd just see it more often.
I am genuinely surprised it has not been reworked yet

@@JarvidO Even when you are, it's mediocre at best, so many jokers just do what it does but MUCH better.
I think it should reset AFTER you play your most played hand. So like you play your most played hand, the joker scores, and then it resets. That way you could play say 3 high cards to ramp it up and then use the ramped up obelisk to get a one time boost to your most played hand

Obelisk makes you change your entire run if you want it to work. It's just a bad joker to run with.

Obelisk is really not that hard to use lol. I've won with it a few times with not that much issue. there's two scenarios where I've found it consistently worthwhile.
the first is halfway into a run where I haven't yet fully committed to a particular hand. the types of runs where I'm getting by on mult from jokers, not the hand type itself. I just pick whatever hand is highest, run it up a bit, and hard switch.
the other scenario is early on. you pick a hand that is attainable but, crucially, not easily made on accident. 3 of a kind is a good option. you run that for as long as you can, and the second it seems like you need the times mult to win, pivoted to another hand. because I know I am going to do that later in the run, I am able to plan for it and start juicing another hand with planet cards beforehand. first time I did that I ended the run with the obelisk at something like x6.
The reality is that you just can't take it too late. obviously it worked out here, but past ante 5 or so, just leave it.

i don’t get the obelisk hate. it isn’t that difficult to switch to a better hand in mid game if you’re manipulating your deck right (ex. full house/flush to flush house). it also scales extremely fast, esp if you play the garbage hands that you haven’t used
The scaling part of it isn't what people are complaining about, it's the sudden loss of that scaling the moment you play any hand even _TIED_ with your most-played hand, which as another comment pointed out, results in having a limited number of hands/hand-types before they all end up tied with each other and it becomes completely useless. Maybe if you get it late in a run where you focused on one hand type and can easily enough pivot to a different type then it's okay for at least a little while, but if you get it early on like in this video, it's just going to be a dead-weight waste of a joker slot.
IMO it needs to either have a subtractive-scaling effect like Green Joker like others have said, or else just drop the reset mechanic altogether (which might make it a bit overpowered, but then again it is supposed to be rare). Making it more frequent as either an uncommon or common won't help an already garbage mechanic.
@@CogWeaver yeah i can agree with that. it definitely is geared towards late antes so picking it up early is useless.
imo its still a good joker and deserves to be a rare, but i think it could definitely be reworked a bit. i do like the green joker idea but i think it would make sense if it lost double (x0.4) when you hit a most played hand. if it didn’t lose xmult it would be absolutely broken
@sickened7328 if you pick it up early, you can structure your whole run around it, xmult isn't necessary for the first 4 antes
I got an obelisk gold stake pretty easily actually. I think it’s overrated, it’s not hard to switch between an easy hand like pair or high card in early game and then switch to something high value later, and using skips to avoid playing too many if needed.
