I love the videos that feature your mom. She’s so cute. My first quilt many years ago was a log cabin. I hope I am still making quilts when I am her age.
When I come across people like this I applaud them. I live in Ireland and where I live is a dead zone where crafts are concerned. Tried motivating people to start a group even went to the adult education officer to see could craft classes be arranged no success.
The most beautiful thing about so many of the Googie videos is that on the sad day that she’s is no longer with you, you have some genuinely amazing footage to hold onto and relive whenever you want to. It’s just an amazing thing to have. I love it.
Thank you both for sharing your skills and sense of humour with us. This is wonderful to come back to and start quilting at last. First things first though and that is the garden. I am 75 and still working, gardening and doing many other things. Love and work is what we need. Who said that? It was Freud. How right he was. You have plenty of it. As well as generosity. Thank you. From a very hot Holland.
I know people in their 50s/60s who say their too old to learn to quilt. I tell them your too old when your dead. Continue doing your gardening. We are having a heat wave in Ireland.
Really nice video ! I just cleaned out the notions from my mom sewing room. At 102 she is no longer sewing so I get it all. We all love your mom and hope she quilts forever.
Googie, I was a little scandalized watching you piece your fabric together without ironing, but seeing it all come together gave me a little thrill thinking of the time it will save me. Hurray! Thank you for the tip 🙏🏼 😊
Log cabin quilts were used n the USA to help guide slaves escaping via thru th Underground Railroad to freedom to the North, sometimes all the way to Canada. Key was the color of the center block. They were hung on clothes lines.
Thanks for the info, how interesting! I’m a novice quilter, ie not that confident 🥴, and I recently got into the historical aspect of the craft and it is such a wonderful rabbit hole.
Oh my, quilting and gardening! My 2 favorite passions, although gardening edges a little ahead. But dryness and the air quality here in Pennsylvania is making the gardening difficult :(. Really enjoy your content. 😊
It is so wonderful Googie is still quilting. I have two closets with shelves full of handmade quilts. I grew up buried under quilts in the wintertime. We always had wood stoves or a fireplace and it would be in the main living area. The bedrooms never had heat. Even today I barricade my bedroom from all heat in the winter. I can only sleep with tons of covers over my bed. God bless y'all
Georgie you’re an absolute doll I really appreciate how you are showing us tours of the gardens it’s just wonderful and your mom quilting you’re some great ladies thank you for taking the time for us I am a 71 Texas bird 9:59
Georgie, you know I LOVE your Mom! and I also make quilts all winter here in Michigan USA, which helps me through it, and then I can garden again. Thanks so much for sharing 🤩!!!
Hello there. I have just come across your video channel and my goodness I am so happy. I’m working my way through your videos and thoroughly enjoying the content. I love the British countryside there is nothing like it in the rest of the world, and the flowers with their gorgeous scent. Your flower arrangements are breathtaking. Best wishes. 🌺
Loved this 😍😍👌. I'm a quilter to, but I do everything by hand.... Definitely going to make a quilt like this on my sewing machine 😅😊💪❤️. Thank you Goegie for showing us how it's done 😊❤️. Love from the Netherlands 🌷🌺
I am also a hand sewer! Am at my 193 th quilt. Mostly bed spreads size. Made 20 by hand since Covid started. Almost all in Kaffe Fassett fabrics. I find machine patchwork work and when I sew by hand it is relaxing.
Coming from Lancashire, I live in North Carolina now and it really is quilting country! I'm inspired to have another go ... Thank you, Googie, you're amazing!
Thank you so very much for showing and sharing this information on how to start the quilt pattern!A joy to behold.Especially from such a great tutor! Now to start putting into practice what we have learnt! ❤
oh now I want to retire and do this - but fear my impatience would halt me at the first hurdle (cutting out) and then I would need to figure out the attaching wadding bit....but I am intrigued to try, one day!
This is an unusual question. I am a quilter and retired to southern Spain. I have 27 containers of fabric from certified quilt shops in the US. I do not have room in my apartment. Do you know of anyone or a shop that might be interested in buying. Prices to sell. Any information will be appreciated Connie
hmmm - twenty seven containers is a LOT! maybe online auction? is there a quilting community in Spain which might be interested? Maybe take a stall at the knitting and stitching show in Harrogate but I don't think you'd sell 27 containers full! x
The kaffe fassett you point at is not a Kaffe Fassett but the very pale lilac and green is a very old Kaffe Fassett. I am 10 years younger as your mum but I quilt about 45 years and am at my 193 th hand sewn quilt. Not counting small things like pillows and so. Lately , the past 5 years, I almost always work with Kaffe Fassett fabrics. Never made a Log Cabin in all those years. It does not appael to me….
ah ok - I'm no Kaffe Fassett expert but Mum does love Kaffe Fassett fabric - she loves colour and her eyesight isn't what it was so bold colours are just up her Strasse x
“Wow” I love patchwork and gardening ! I’m in heaven 😊
you're very welcome x
I could watch your mom sew all day. She is my quilting and gardening idol. Thank you!
hurrah x
I love the videos that feature your mom. She’s so cute. My first quilt many years ago was a log cabin. I hope I am still making quilts when I am her age.
