    There are many masterpieces of horror movies in the 70's and 80's.

    I'm glad I get to see a lot of these at the local drive in still.

    I was way too young to see any of these movies in theaters (my parents weren't going to take me to see movies like this), but I think when I was 9 or 10 I saw Carrie on TV. I remember having nightmares about Carrie, covered in blood, crawling out of her grave to come and get me. After that, I tried to see every horror movie I could to reinvigorate that delicious feeling of fear. Mr. DePalma, Ms. Spacek, I thank you for giving my life meaning and inspiration.

    The Eighties get all the credit for being the best era of horror, but some of the greatest movies were made in the Seventies!

      I agree. Most of my favorites are from the 70's.
      Exorcist, Halloween, the omen, carrie, alien, phantasm, the wicker man, dawn of the dead.
      It was a great time for horror fans.

      NO , the 70s has it all over the 80s . What the eighties had on the seventies was availability with rental stores everywhere with tons of content .

      The 1960s-70s were when American films discovered pornographic sex and graphic violence. The '80s came after the huge cultural chasm of changes had already taken place. In 1963, weirdoes could see HG Lewis' Blood Feast, bloody riots in the South over civil rights and the president getting his brains blown out on live TV the day after Thanksgiving. Did anything in the '50s shown on television or movie screens get that disturbing?

    Love seeing these old horror trailers, I could just imagine seeing some of these back then on the big screen and how scary some of them must have been.

    • @andrewjackson7758
      @andrewjackson7758 4 года назад +2

      Especially considering that graphic violence in horror films really wasn't a thing until the 1960s, & it wasn't something people knew about en masse before the Exorcist.

      @@kevinkelley3906 Right. It's unlikely that normies knew what Blood Feast was. Psycho and Rosemary's Baby were more menacing than graphic, although they are modern horror films too. The whole thing gelled in 1973 with the Exorcist and a few months later with the Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Nobody thought the old monster films or Hammer Horror would have a comeback after 1973. It was done. A whole new era was fully happening.

  • @KenzieRetro

    halloween - iconic
    the exorcist - that particular trailer was actually banned
    alien - still a classic trailer with an immortal tagline
    carrie - despite the spelling error of stephen king, best version of the film
    suspiria - just stills and music. probably the weakest of this batch
    dawn of the dead - definitely encourages viewers to watch night of the living dead
    the omen - that freeze frame at the end
    the wicker man - sort of gave away it's ending (that's just me though)
    texas chainsaw massacre - never seen it but damn, "the most horrifying motion picture i have ever seen," i can only imagine what it must have been like when it originally released
    last house on the left - "it's only a movie" is pretty unsettling
    jaws - that music still gives me nightmares

    Modern movie trailers are so cookie cutter today. Just like the movies they are for. It is a shame that for the most part Trailers and movies are not as creative as they were in the 70`s.

      HaHa. My parents watched it when it first came on Showtime and she banned it from the house. Then I finally was able to rent movies because I was 18 and video rental stores blew up and I wasn't very impressed. There were far worst movies such as Hellraiser. That movie was WTF!!

  • @andrewjackson7758
    @andrewjackson7758 4 года назад

    Is Halloween the perfect horror film? It seems to be practically flawless, where other films of the era (the Exorcist, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, e.g.) are downright silly in parts.
