I have practised Karate (shotokan and goju ryu) for 40 years and worked as a bouncer for nearly 20 years so i feel im qualified to comment on how self defence tecniques are taught and what works and what dont in the real world. What you have to remember is when these things are taught in a dojo they are mearly drills to build muscle memory and teach timing and distance.
+Steve Weller To your point, in "Nodan Karate: The five Principles," the author makes the following comment on page 55: "In reality, street attacks are fluid and unpredictable, and require on-site adaptations." But, he also states on page 5 that, "what you practice is what you will do when faced with a real street attack." So, practicing practical techniques in prearranged attack scenarios are an important part of "reality" self-defense training.
@Gronarix The correct breathing during the execution of a technique increases power. Whatever vocalizations accompany the focus point of a technique, they must emmanate from the ki extension from the hara, a point approximately two inches below the navel.
Master NoDan it has been many a moons since we last spoke and I posted to you. I am now living in Japan and have become a practitioner of Ngo cho Kun a southern Shaolin system that uses much the same principles as your system demonstrates I am very happy to see you still around . Domo Arigato sensei.
@Failfleetcaptain21 The second demonstration is a simultaneous forearm block with an overhead hook punch to the face. The hook punch uses the "unbendable arm" technique which allows it to transfer body weight into the strike.
I cannot agree with the "gun defense from a distance." With a gun, distance is what gives the shooter a tactical advantage. Personally, I'd keep in mind that a shooter is likely to pull the trigger multiple times, may be armed with a semi-automatic pistol, and will probably recoil his body as you attempt to close the gap. The editor did suggest the moves only be practiced by an expert tho. So, there's that :c)
I am no fool, nor are my observations foolish, but based on empirical evidence, common sense and simple logic. My friend, I am under no obligation to provide an alternative, however, if you insist, I would say to work on your situational awareness to keep from being surrounded by men with semi-automatic weapons. :c) Further, my skepticism justifiably extends as far as the purported efficacy of those gun-defense techniques in particular, not to any martial arts system. Last, if you've got such faith in those techniques, you're certainly welcome to use them. Just let me know where to send the wreath.
D Hope - If you read Nodan's explanation of this "do or die" combat jujitsu maneuver on P. 64-67 of Nodan's book (free pdf download at nodankarate.org) you will get a different perspective on your legitimate concerns. Sometimes appearances can be deceiving.
The last part of the video with the gunman is very true, I seen gangs of rio de janiero and they were shooting at each other from close range n they did dodge some bullets, nordan is legit and a human weapon.
Nodan's self-defense demos were only intended to show the application of striking technique in a variety of "hypothetical" situations. For more realistic self-defense scenarios see the video, "Nodan's Students" at his "nodan-karate" website listed in this video's description.
Dear Sir Those techniques are useful only when the body itself became a weapon. For thar lots of body conditioning require else the hand will damage.personally i prefer my lage when dealing with thrug.one powerful chudan mawashi is enough when attacker is kicking range or a knife hand at temple do the knockout
Hello nodan - this does seem more effective than a lot of the Karate I have seen! however that rear headbutt at 1:27 wen the bag swung back looked to hurt !!
@ HammoD2k Street muggings with guns and knives tend to be up close and static. This is because street criminals use a weapon to scare their victims into submission. They do not expect resistance and can be successfully defended with good strategy using the element of surprise. Nodan is not demonstrating "knife fighting" here.
@leopower7 Nodan believed the best martial art is the one that best meets your needs. Competition, trophies and awards are important ego boosters for some people. Jesus warned us not to judge and Nodan never criticized other practitioners or their martial arts.
Yes, the martial artist known as "Nodan" is real. His "no dan" character, however, is a disguise intended to protect the identities of people associated with his "enlightenment" experience thirty years ago. See his free book @ nodankarate.org for further explanation.
Definitely he is pro. but in real life, no attacker would stand with a knife like that. he would probably strike brutally with his knife and cause more than 3 stabs in one second.
Love this stuff! this is what true martial arts is all about. Self defense, discipline and a calm composure in the face of a threat.
A creative way of demonstrating kime
dude this guys breath is spot on, and his technique is brilliant. id like to go and train with this guy.
Good video
YOU HAVE NOW BECOME MY FAVORITE FIGHTER ON YOU TUBE/

1:30 偉大な師匠も流石にサンドバッグの反撃までは想定外だったのでしょうか?

No. You will have to read Nodan's FREE book online to understand why.

I have the choice : uechi or goju ryu ? Thank you
Both are legitimate styles. Choose the school that best serves your personal goals. Above all, listen to what your intuition is telling you.
@@nodankarate thank you very much! i choosed goju ryu

With the gun defense I was expecting You would strike the elbow.
Thanks for the nice defense videos. great to teach my kids.
The last part of the video with the gunman is very true, I seen gangs of rio de janiero and they were shooting at each other from close range n they did dodge some bullets, nordan is legit and a human weapon.

I was just missing some wood for winter
Did you check between your ears?
I can't tell what is that sound he's doing before striking.
Breathing in, breathing out or just making a sound ?
Nice Vid. Good breaking by the way.
not all fighters in the ufc r compieting for fame and fortune some just compete for the love of the sport and to know their the best
I want Nodan Karatê in Brazil.
If humans were made of wood, No-Dan could kill a forest.

impressive!
@MrJWDragon92 Yes, this was a last resort maneuver against an attacker who was determined to kill you.
@leopower7 Nodan believed the best martial art is the one that best meets your needs. Competition, trophies and awards are important ego boosters for some people. Jesus warned us not to judge and Nodan never criticized other practitioners or their martial arts.
@LisaBARN69 Yes, you make a valid observation here.
this guy isn't for real,,is he

Is that beard real?
No. Sorry, but he has chosen to remain anonymous.

Wang Jin Rei wins.
good!! but 1:26 jajajaja
also, the fighters in ufc are not the best fighters in the world. Remember there is a difference from a "sport" and a "art"
Definitely he is pro. but in real life, no attacker would stand with a knife like that. he would probably strike brutally with his knife and cause more than 3 stabs in one second.
