Hello! Thanks for the demonstration. It helps to understand what is happening. I like that you slow down video to see what's going on. 😁😁 the bloopers or outtakes. Blessings
If it wasn't for yourgreat support to help me fix sewing macines I wouldnt have managed. My husband passed and I took this on as an extra income. Thanks you great guys for helping me live better by learning by you how to. You're great. Thanks again and hope I can get more and more information by you.
This may be dramatic but, this upload is the EXACT reason the Internet was created. The sharing of educational materials. Hopefully it's here forever. This is a lost art.
OMG this worked! I have a $1,600 machine that is less than 2 months old, and it stopped pulling up the bobbin thread. I followed your instructions and I fixed it myself! The cost was a trip to Lowes to get a hex key set that would fit the screw, but otherwise I would have had to drive an hour to the closest repair shop and wait for it to be fixed. I can't thank you enough, and I feel so empowered now!
Edited to say, I had to go back to the repair today because it wasn't completely fixed. In your video, it's hard to see because the parts are black, but there are actually 2 set screws next to the gear for the bobbin timing. I couldn't see that and only adjusted one, which didn't work. I loosened both screws, the turned the gear with my hand slightly until the needle came up just barely before the hook, and it worked. Tightened everything up and I am sewing just fine now. Thank you so much!
I have a Sailrite. As you know, Sailrite prides themselves on giveing you help to repair your machine yourself. They are very experienced and have videos on everything. However, this video on timing is better! Much better!
I live in France, your videos are a wealth of knowledge, it's a change from all these French technicians who only show off their profession in a pedantic way...
THANK YOU!!! I only needed the first few minutes before I realized my timing error (foot timing), but you have reconciled two full weekends worth of frustration with a simple visual that helped me realize I made a mistake. Thanks so much!!
Thank you doesn't even begin to say how much I appreciate you showing us how to correct the timing on a sewing machine. I bought a used, lower end, but good brand of quilting machine for $50. When it arrived the hook timing was nowhere close with the zigzag just being a straight stitch. After a few tries and watching your video several times (it takes me awhile sometimes :) making a few more adjustments, saying a prayer or two, I got it! Thanks again.
Patience is an irritating form of art. It is learned and practiced continually, especially if you are a sewing machine repair hero. 👀. (And I’d only considered the person who sewed before I started watching these videos). Thank you for helping us.
Brilliantly explained! You took an incredibly complex problem and reduced it to it's principal parts. The only thing that you could improve would be the focus of your camera on occasions. You could try to place a piece of paper or cloth close behind your subject to force it to focus. Different colours, patterns and texture may work better. Thank you so much! 👍
Thanks for the suggestion, I tried to use a GoPro for macro, and that didn't work out very well. I'm trying to improve with each video, there is a lot of room for that improvement.
@@SewingMachineRepairGuy It's not at all easy to get the focus right and framing the shot while manipulating controls, describing things and managing lighting! Macro is hard, because the greater the magnification, the shallower your depth of field. Having the ability to manually adjust the focus is helps hugely and many digital cameras lack this. I struggle with macro photography with my phone for this reason. I have noticed your improvements. Keep up the good work - this series is great! 👍
A great video and always straight to the point. I absolutely love it. I have had a Janome machine with a timing issue. I always fix it only for the issue to keep coming back after a minute or so. Even the service centres failed to find a permanent fix for this. I wonder what the cause of such an issue is
Hello, Too bad, it's in English 😀 ! But that's very clear. So, I'll keep on watching your videos. Thanks for your explanations. I learnt smth although I do that since cc 5 years with 450 personal machines repaired. The add with the chinese ballet came 5 times during a 20" videos : I know they dance perfectly ! Best regards. Pierre / Paris / Montmartre.
Thanks for teaching me. I like the Bible messages. My Father is the only one helping andd guiding me now. My hubby went to rest until Jesus comes. He can't teach me anymore. I am earning my money through fixing machines. I'm sure the Lord has put my on this nice programme you offer Mr Machine repair guy
I didn't know about this correct way for timing the zigzag stitch. Atm I have a singer inspiration machine, which picky as no other 🤦♀️ and a total PITA. I hope to be able to solve the problems with this valuable information. Thank you. 🙏
PSA: I just came from another vid that helped me to fix this issue. The hook above the eye with no gap is wrong. There should be a 1.6 - 2.0mm gap between the bottom of the hook and the eye of the needle, otherwise you're going to get this issue where dots of bottom thread appear on the edges of your embroidery. This isn't a tension issue btw, it's an offset issue. If you embroider a column (tension test) and you look under it to find three columns (white in the center, color on each side) you might find one side of color is thicker than the other side. This is an offset issue due to the hook literally being above the eye, that gap has to be there.
I think the best thing for me to do if I have such a problem is to take the machine to a repair shop and let someone qualified to fix that problem. Right now I am having problems with one new machine stitching practice material. I believe the problem to be with the bobbin and have to solve that problem.
I have Singer HD. Now I opened needle plate and took bobbin case out for cleaning. I also made paint marks to hook and frame for timing check . The marks match when needle is lowest position.
Thank you. I'm still not clear on what position and distance the hook should be in relation to the needle eye when it does the zig and then the zag. May you please do a more magnified video with clear pointers and measurements of each component.
Thank you so much for this video! I really like how you explain the general principles that can be applied to any sewing machine. Thanks to you, I was able to finally set the timing on my machine after replacing the plastic gears on my machine. I couldn't find any other video on youtube that explained setting the timing as clearly as you! I had a question and I'd be very grateful if you could answer it: My machine is now able to sew a decent straight stitch, but on zig-zag, when the needle comes down on the right side, the upper thread keeps snagging on the right "toe" of my Apollo bobbin case after the hook catches it and it comes around. Is this an adjustment that I have to make on the hook timing or is there a problem with something else? The stitches are okay on the left side, but there are skipped stitches on the right.
My machine is getting one loop and not other 2 then one again and missing 2 or more again, what to do? Do you have a video explaining this and how to fix it? I am a big fan of your videos, please keep them coming.
Nice I have a very old Singer , previous owner welded a broken arm on it (he has more sewing machine, and give this up for free because is not working well), but welding is not in the right position so the machine is skipping often, maybe I will see if I can fix it and add an electric motor to it instead of foot. I remember 10 years ago buyed a new Singer and trash it but my mother go to the trash bin and bring it back. It was not used anymore... maybe I will fix it an make it as a present back to my mother, or use it for hard staffs as is full metal..
A good lesson but you overlooked the fact that the bobbin has to turn clockwise or counterclockwise depending on the machine so it has to be placed in in the correct direction. Cheers
Thank you so much! I have a Brother xl-5130 all mechanical with a vertical bobbin. Anyway the timing was off, but I didn't see an adjustment on the horizontal shaft. I decided to adjust the needle bar height instead. I noticed on a zig zag stich that the timing between the zig and the zag is always off because on the zag the needle has just moved to the right about 3/16th's or so (the width of the stitch) and is always early for the hook. Is there an adjustment to time the zig and the zag independant of one another? Right now I split the middle to try to average between the two. If I would have been able to make the adjustment on the horizontal shaft, are both the zig and the zag being adjusted at the same time? or does that just adjust the zig or the zag independant from one another? I do get things on Amazon, I will try to remember to click on your link first. Thanks!
Thank you so much for your videos. After having replaced the feed drive gear on my Singer 6235 model and made the synchronisations, now i regularly have skipped stitches . Please do you have instructions or could you explain how to adjust the clearance between the needle and the hook on this model ?
I tried this on my Janome Quilers Companion. Sadly didn't work. When I practiced watching the needle to hook with top thread in, it always picked up the thread, but it still doesnt sew, missing stitches on straight and zigzag. I purchased a brother VX809 machine at a yard sale and it was frozen so I oiled and greased it. So it was running but now it is causing a nesting of top thread on underside of material and gets jammed. So is it the timing or another problem? I'm helping to make native American regalia for our tribal members and I need help please also I loved the message at the bottom of video. Everyone needs to hear and listen to God's word
I don't know which way to turn the tool. I'm a bit nervous that I might break the tip of the tool and cause another issue because the screw is really tight. Which way do I turn it to loosen the screw?
I have a question about the bobbin hook ring. It got caught by the thread and stuck so tight that I couldn’t pull it out. So I took the bobbin case out, still couldn’t pull it out. So I took the right side part which has a spring that holds the bobbin case in position. After I took out the thread, I thought I did it. But, the needle doesn’t pickup the thread from the bobbin. The hook ring is not moving anymore. Is there any hope to fix it?
I would like to know how to fix my Elna Envision 9008 after my hubby pulled on the netting While I was stitching zig zag stitch. The needle then broke on the foot. I took it to a Jenome shop but after spending 3 days on it, the man told me he could not fix the problem. It is a sewing/embroidery machine and the motion to move from side to side (as well as when working in the hoop - is the problem
How does the timing go off. This would explain how to avoid it. Yesterday my brother innovis 5 Got a bit of fabric pulled into the machines dog teeth. Now it won't stitch and makes a lot of noise. I tried what I could.
My 1970’s Singer Touch & Sew didn’t pick up the thread from the bobbin after I oiled my machine. I think I got the pick up fixed, but when I put the throat plate back on it didn’t pick up the thread anymore nor stitch. Any ideas?
Can the tension make the needle come down in front of the needle hole and strike the needle plate? My Singer 4423 got knocked off the table and landed on concrete floor.
your manuals tell you what measurements to look out for? pfff.. mine never do, I almost think they don't want us to know so we can't fix it ourselves...
Romans 3:21 now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago.
