Had my mother’s old Singer machine from the 60s. It finally died in 2004 - I literally finished my last project on it by turning the hand wheel manually to get it done! It was hard letting it go but no one would touch it for repairs. After watching this series, I wish I’d kept it just to give it a go myself. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

I have watched all 5 of your videos and am in the infancy of starting to repair machines. I may do this for others in the near future. I loved your series and found a lot of great advice and think you ought to put you bloopers in ALL of your video sessions; they are fun to watch and help me to learn even more...
Thanks and keep up the great work. Looking forward to your new series.

Another good source to get at least gears for older machines is, using a 3D Printer. I really mean it. You can find the STL files for nearly every type of gear out there, with ease. And if you want to, you can even design custom ones. And with cuurent Printers you can even create replacement belts, that are of higher quality then the original ones. - Never stay still, always learn new things.

I found a janome 805 old sewing machine and because of your lessons I was able to fix it.
The rubber wheel was touching belt and it would not wind bobbin, wouldn't stay ingaged.
    The tension was off.
    Needed oiling.
I followed your steps and now my $20.00 machine is running great.
Many Thanks, my success is your success!

Thank you sooooo much for showing your videos. I dropped my Brother CS6000i sewing machine yesterday. When I turned on the sewing machine it gave a whirring sound but no power to sew. If I turned the wheel manually I noticed that I could still sew a straight line and a quilt stitch so sewed manually until I ran out of bobbin thread and couldn't wind bobbins. Thanks to your video, I was confident that I could take the cover off and remove about 9 screws and detach 2 computer plugs. Once opened, I could see what that the belt was not where it should be which was the problem. I was so ecstatic to repair my sewing machine which now works with power again. Thanks for saving me from further frustration but mostly the money that I would have had to pay someone to fix and the long wait I would have had to get it fixed.

Hello, thank you so much for making this series of videos, that was very useful information and I finally understand my sewing machine! I do have a question though: my Singer 96k (actually two) both have a shorter revers stitch and the manual I have suggests to adjust the needle bar timing but is not very descriptive of how to adjust it. Actually there are two questions:
    1. What is the reason for the reverse stitch to be too short and
    2. How to adjust the needle bar timing and/or
    3. Adjust the feed dog timing

Thank you so much! I'm like you, people give me machines because they know I sew and I'm fairly mechanically inclined. Our nearest sewing repair shop is an hour away, and my 10-year old Brother had never been serviced, was making some grinding noises, having massive loops on the wrong side of the fabric. I used a different video to figure out how to take it apart, cleaned and oiled everything, and discovered that the arm that holds the tension disc open when the presser foot is up was not closing when the presser foot came down. It had popped out of place. I have no idea how this happened, but got everything realigned and reassembled and I don't remember when it's sewn this good. Thanks for the great content! Now back to sewing!

Thank you very much for your videos, I learned a lot, I live in France, no French technician, will do tutorials to explain how people can clean and adjust the timing on the contrary they hope that people come to their place to clean and adjust their machines (without repairs), for the price of about 90 dollars for electronics and 65 dollars for mechanics. I'm going to train on my little machine, in case my other machine has a problem, I'll know what to do!

Thanks so much for your great videos. I have just bought a janome sewing 525s bought it for $40 usually $300 plus here in Australia we pay a lot more for machines. When I was cleaning it out there was a lot of yellow grease around the inside in the right. What would cause this? I tried to clean it out as much as I could. I haven’t yet oiled it and powered it up. Is there anything power wise that could cause troubles, the power cord is in tact. Cheers from Jodie from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺 look forward to watching more of your videos.

Hi Wes ,first off thanks for uploading your videos to share with us . I have a used 1475 cd bought last Year April but I have never used it as I kept having a nagging feeling something was off & one day I got the courage to at least try to do a short test- run on it sure enough my hunch of something being off were confirmed ,it stitch 3 to 4 straight stitch & the needlbar really jerked to the left were it followed by a sudden hault ,& I went on a Facebook group & one of the members concluded that it could be due to a linkage problem , so I was wondering if you had any way to fix this issue & if you could do a video on how to get this issue fixed ?.

What about when it's working fine and then "ka-chunk!" - it quits working and the motor won't engage? My wife thought it was the foot pedal. Indeed, I took it apart, and one of the capacitors was blown. Easy day, swapped out the pedal; but, the sewing machine still won't engage. I intend to take the machine apart tomorrow, knowing nothing of sewing or its gizmos. But, if you have any advice that would shorten my time under the hood, I would greatly appreciate it. She really needs this machine to prep for a special event at our church this weekend, but if you're busy, I understand. The model is a Simplicity SA1600. If you know where I can get data on parts or fittings, I would be very grateful. Currently, I cannot find anything online, in as much as I've had time to do so.
I watched your whole series plus some. Very helpful for the uninitiated but mechanically inclined, as myself. I appreciate it. If nothing else, I am less ignorant of mechanical things. But, I would like this machine to function. Thank you in advance!

I have a janome 419s, and it's my first machine I've ever owned. Do you have any tips or videos on troubleshooting the machine for thread entanglement and thread breaks? It was serviced in December of 2020 and never used until a few months ago. I gave up on using it because I couldn't go five seconds without the thread snapping in the middle of the machine and even went as far as to changing the type of thread I was using. I've been hand sewing since.

I NEED YOUR HELP!!!! PLEASE AND THANK YOU!!! I have a Janome HD-1000. I was in the middle of a project and my foot pedal stepped working. I unplugged it and let it rest. The following day I plugged it back in and turned it on. The light comes on but nothing when I press down on the pedal. I purchased a new pedal thinking that the pedal was the problem. Unfortunately it's not the pedal because I have the same issue with a new pedal. I know the machine is getting power because the lights come on. The machine is not sending the power to the motor. Well that's what I'm thinking. Anyway adhesive would be be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

still all of the instruction videos seems to bypass the problem i have. the needle is zigging while in the material and still zagging while it's in the material. i seen on the timing video about hook timing and i thought it said that zig zag timing is associated with hook timing, yet i can't see that, my hook timing is ok the machine is 2662 singer. feed dogs might be acting weird, but it is consistently missing the timing of the zig zag stiches, all of them. so the stitch looks like a wimpy nearly straight zig zag. can the belt cause out of timing for that? like did it skip a tooth on the belt drive gear cogs, they seem to be slow for the needle entry. most of the zigging and zagging occur after the needle goes in the fabric. can anyone pin point the area to retime the zigzaggin motion in basic high school english? at first the machine worked fine (i found it and another singer on the curb, the 2662 has everything plus the manual and looks fairly unused but it was breaking threads and the drop in bobbin had a lot of slack from the bobbin holder moving around and up and down, i adjusted that and it worked great for a month, then slowly the zig zag thing occurred, more and more. i'm reluctant to "oiling every thing," yet i know the manual would say not to oil anything just to get you to get service intervals from dealers. everything looks well, grease on the gears everything is smoothly moving. even the zig motions only it's zigging in the material. thanks if you can steer me anywhere!

Why not just Machine New Parts or Cast New Parts from Aluminum? It's not Hard to do. Maybe I need to set up a Business doing this. What does the reader of this think? Is there Money to be made doing such things?

I am asked frequently, why not just 3d print? This is the first 'why not just cast aluminum'. I'm not able to spend the time to learn a new skill to fix a machine. However, there could be a market for it if someone was able to do it. The only thing would be the 1000s of different parts.

@@SewingMachineRepairGuy It's really no Problem. I would have to have the Part or Parts and a picture and some measurements and within a week New parts of any kind could be made for the Sewing Machines. If this is something you would be Interested in let me know in the comments. If you have an E-Mail or Phone Number I could reach you at let me know.

Just wanted to say that I love how you put Bible verses in your videos! Casting a net even while working on sewing machines!🙂

It’s a shame that so many people are turning away from our savior Jesus Christ. It’s nice to see someone trying to bring people back into His grace.

    here we go again: proselytizing

I get it--you need to "sell" your channel. I can deal with that. But the constant proselytizing with bible strip on the bottom is too much. Keep it about sewing machines and stop doing missionary work. It's offensive.

Thanks for your videos! My Singer 2273 motor works and the needle works, but threads are not stitched at all. Would you have any idea for the problem?
