General History: HMS Dreadnought

Quite possibly the most famous ship in modern history, even if not for herself, HMS Dreadnought started a revolution in warship design. Her design, while in some ways behind the curve compared to contemporary foreign designs, was an amalgamation of features that made her truly revolutionary.
The first all-big gun warship to be completed. The first capital ship with turbine propulsion. The fastest and most powerfully armed warship in the world, on completion.
Her very name endures, as all battleships before her became known as Pre-Dreadnoughts (the odd Semi-Dreadnought aside).

technically i suspect it was the satsumas and south carolinas that upended the established order, simply because there's no way the british government would have allowed the RN to obsolete its own fleet advantage. once those classes were in the pipeline though, the RN and govt could well remember the gloire/warrior debacle
