The a9III is much more than a fast burst rate, I think it's a glimps into the future of cameras and what's possible! We have to do better at understanding that cameras are tools and once you understand that, you'll be able to create freely
Been in this a long time and majority of what you said I already knew, but the way you explain it and how you speak is engaging and helpful to many compared to many people who try to explain stuff who have done this type of content a lot longer. So keep it up dude. Articulate, educated, and relatable not over the top cookie cutter editing like a robot. Cool content!
I shoot live low light LED lit stage theater. My biggest issue was banding. No more. This camera is a god send. The fantastic continuous auto eye focus is a huge plus. As Erwin says, a camera is just a tool, nothing more. Great vid. Thanks.
I always appreciate your no-nonsense perspective! You use really great examples as well.
This guy gets it . Ill admit i to thought the a93 was just crazy ...but really to someone else its the perfect camera . We should just buy what we need an not try to keep up with the Jones's
Thank you. Explained it so clearly for me.
Great video.
Perfect mix of practical education and food for thought.
Brilliant video ,well explained thank you
Excellent video you capture the essence of the Sony a9111!
I’m not at all in the line of photography but I do have an FX3 for client work and I must say you explain things extremely well! Been keeping tabs on everything in the Sony line for a while to keep myself dated and I’ve learned a lot in comparison to other videos!
Great video!
it’s brilliant
You're commentary makes too much sense. People are gonna stop listening 😅😂. Great video man.
Lmao! Thanks man 🤣
Best purchase ever
Wow I am so glad I found your channel. Add a professional photographer videographer and drone pilot in long island new york.
I left the way you explained these as tools and the right tool for the job. And how the a 93 can take the place of two or three bodies.
Excellent work love your style of educating
Very nice rundown. Seeing all the comments of people shunning this camera got me down but now I'm excited about it again. Another big advantage to me is the ability to pull stills from 4k 120 action events. I'll expose the shutter as if taking photos, then scrub through the video to find the best shots. With a rolling shutter too many of them look as if my camera wasn't level, then i try and unskew and the subject doesn't look right. Also, using a fast shutter angle at 120fps played back at 60fps looks smooth enough for an added benefit of dual delivery methods.
These are the kind of things people overlook. That’s a way that this tech directly impacts your workflow that wasn’t possible before. But people like to be negative of course.
Well said ...
Good video, cameras are definitely tools. I don’t plan on buying the a9III but will probably rent it for a day to go have some fun…..
At 2000 base iso that is a hit. Ugh I couldn’t.
Great video brother keep it up 🎉
I thought that would be an issue but from using it, I didn’t find it made any real difference in the outcome of the work, I just needed stronger ND
When some people say you don't need 120fps photos is mostly pros that feel threatened that even rookie photographers can achieve same to better action photos that they worked so hard to make, haha. Just like when an newbie asks a pro what camera to get and he says the phone is good enough while he's rocking $20,000+ of camera gear.
Straight to the point, great video 👍 it’s a revolutionary camera that sets a new standard. Within a few years we will get this with better ISO, higher megapixels and better dynamic range and at that point it will be fully complete. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a superb camera really. But you can still get better image quality (which at the end of the day should be more important) from rolling shutter cameras that still does most things we all need in most scenarios for stills shooting especially but once we reach that point where the above mentioned specs are leveled out between rolling and global shutter, cameras will be complete and more or less perfect. Then we can talk about adding internal nd filters and what not to make it perfectly hybrid for stills and movies but then it’s just ridiculous 😅 Point being, we should appreciate this camera.
Absolutely! I think it’s at a point where any differences in image quality are negligible, I can’t see any difference in the photo or video image quality between it and my a7IV without doing some extreme pixel peeping. On paper there are differences in iso and dynamic range but I think in the real world, it wont have an impact on most peoples work. But the benefits are very clear when using it and like you said, it’ll only get better! It doesn’t feel experimental which was what I wanted to find out so knowing as the tech makes it to other models over the years, they’ll be no reason to look back
I do lots of events and the LED flicker is the biggest issue I have with stills/video work as a hybrid shooter. So as much as it bothers me hearing about the high iso levels I feel like it would be negligible considering I’d never having rolling shutter issues again. It would be an insane upgrade coming from the A7iii lol to much camera honestly
Nah, this too factual, you’re going to upset em 😂
🤣🤣🤣
Question, which Sony camera can shoot at least 4K 30p uncropped?
None of them have a crop at 4k 30
@@erwinmarionneauxHmm at least my ZV-E10 has a slight crop in 4k@30fps in comparison to 4k@24/25fps🤔
Yea you might get a very slight 1.1x or something similar but nothing that makes a significant impact most of the time like 1.5x or 2x crops so that’s considered pretty negligible
@@erwinmarionneaux what about 4k 60?
Good information but you need to raise a little of exposure in your video.
I find it little underexposed.
Keep up the good work.
Thanks! I like the exposure level on the darker side
what about the a1 line?
What about it?
The price is the reason why
Reason why what?
The price ain’t nothing if you know you’ll make it back soon
I am not sure all cameras will be global shutter unless they become the same cost to produce. You could have said the same about stacked sensor back in 2017 and yet we still have non stacked cameras, why because they are cheaper to make. I expect Sony make more money out of the A7 range than the A9 range by selling more units. There are also different types of photography and some will not benefit from a global shutter like landscape photography. Also if you make every camera in the range a global shutter it will reduce the reason for people spending more money of the top of the range cameras. I am sure sony will one day have more than one global shutter camera , I just do not think it will be the entire range
From what I get from them, I think that’s the goal. Bring down production costs (material cost are already lower, it’s just the development costs upfront) as well as matching and exceeding performance of existing sensors so that there are no impactful disadvantages. It won’t be anytime soon but it’ll be cheaper and easier to do so at some point. By then, the higher end cameras would still have major advantages over the lower range cameras even if they all do have global shutters
First 🎉🎉🎉
But is 24 MP enough 🧐🧐🧐🧐👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀
24mp is wayyy more than enough for most users. 4k video is only 8-9 MP. An 8x10 print is about 12 MP. 24 MP is enough to easily do a 16x20 print.
@@erwinmarionneaux I wanna start doing college football and baseball , this the camera to get ,
You don’t even have to get this one, you can get older models and still be able to do those things
@@erwinmarionneaux would the Sony a7r 5 work?
It would probably be the worst to get for that.
No, the α9 III _is_ overpriced for the α9 series, which until now was photocentric action cameras at low cost, 4500 USD. Sony ought to have let this new camera, 6000 USD, debut a new series, α3.
This is the most photocentric action camera on the market? There’s literally no camera on the market that’s more capable for doing high speed action photography than this one, why would they start a new line when it’s completely build for speed? It’s priced right in line with what most people this camera is for typically pay and even cheaper than some of the options they’ve been using
Not alleging α9 III, at 6000 USD, overpriced among action cameras, I called it "overpriced for the α9 series" and fit for a new series, α3. The α9 series debuted at 4500 USD in 2017, when its action rivals, new in 2016, were Canon's EOS-1D X Mark II at 6000 USD and Nikon's D5 at 6500 USD. New in 2020, both EOS-ID X Mark III and D6 were 6500 USD. That year, Sony replicated α9's barebones video mode, lacking picture profiles like S-log, but replicated also α9's low price, 4500 USD, in α9 II, establishing the α9 series as photocentric action cameras at low cost. The next year, Sony even reduced α9's price to 3000 USD.
And earlier in 2021, Sony's release of a thoroughgoing flagship model, α1-with resolution double of α9 series', frame rate 50% beyond α9 series', flash sync with electronic shutter, advanced video mode, and 6500 USD price-recast α9 II as Sony's secondary and bargain model for action stills. But now, not photocentric, α9 III alike α1 epitomizes _hybrid._ Their video modes rival that of α7s III, videocentric. More exceptionally, α9 III vastly exceeds the flagship's frame rate and sync speed by instating a premium price despite making unprecedented tradeoffs, netting a greater action specialist than α1 and a lesser photo generalist than either the "basic" model α7 IV or even α9 II.
Per inflation, 4500 USD in 2020 equates to 5360 USD in 2024. But in the camera market, amid advancements in engineering, manufacturing, and competition, it may equate to not over 5000 USD in 2024. The α9 III costs 6000 USD upon the halfbaked global shutter, overkill in the α9 series, that lowers dynamic range even at the same, old 24 megapixels. Complicating outdoor portraiture and filmmaking to sooner need ND filters, Sony partly hides the higher noise by making α9 III's base ISO oddly high. In photo mode, not ISO 100, it is a wonky ISO 250, why α9 III _needs_ its fastest shutter speed, 1/80 000 sec, for its lowest native exposure value to merely match α9 II's at 1/32 000 sec and ISO 100.
As the α9 series was not even Sony's top action series anymore, its new rendition ought to be more and not less versatile in photo mode, especially in the studio at base ISO. Sony could have simply let α1's technology trickle down to make α9 III a universal improvement over α9 II by keeping base ISO 100 while possibly making it cleaner, by bringing ISO invariance via dual-gain architecture to the α9 series, by increasing resolution 50% to 32 megapixels, by doubling frame rate to 40 per second, by speeding sensor readout to render rolling shutter's side effects further negligible, and by enabling flash sync with electronic shutter. These broad improvements, no tradeoffs, at 5000 USD better spell a refresh of the series.
For nearly all who awaited upgrade _within_ the α9 series, 120 fps is trivial versus 40 fps, and the only stark advancement needing global shutter is flash sync > 1/400 sec. As to rolling shutter, the α9 debut of a stacked sensor tamed image skew and the α9 II firmware update to finely variable shutter speed tamed LED banding. Sony could have named its α9 III version α3-serving the specialist niche where global shutter is important despite its tradeoffs-issued my α9 III version at 5000 USD, and sold the duo more profitably. Instead, the series of photocentric action cameras at low cost is effectively terminated by downgraded photo versatility for paramount speed specialty at high cost, assuaged by videocentric capabilities.
