At last, someone that understand how the Nikon iso system works.
Thank you!
That's what I was thinking, my god, Tony didn't figure this out in 8 months. And Andrei you took some fantastic images!
@@kalimarus thank you!
This only works in full manual mode, right? In A or S priority modes it uses only whatever you've set your ISO dial to.
@@d2miniIn M/S it works like auto iso range adjustment. A/P will be minimum ISO. If you want to adjust in A/P it’s best to use C and bind the rec button to ISO, then when you hold that REC button down front finger wheel will turn auto iso on/off and rear wheel adjusts ISO or the range of auto.
I have the Zfc that is almost like the Zf on usability, but with an APS-C sensor. I went for this model because of its smaller size, as I already have two full frame digital Nikons that I intend to keep.
I couldn't be happier. It's nice-looking, has very good handling (I use the Nikon grip), and most of all, delivers very good results.
The way I feel maximum satisfaction is in Aperture Priority or Manual mode and the Leica R or Canon FD lenses I have, both on 24, 50, or 90mm. With the fantastic peaking function, we always get ultra sharp images.
The ZF-C is a nice camera.
I hope they will bring more smaller sized lenses, wouldn't mind manual lenses either. I bought the voigtländer 40 1.2. It's an absolute joy to use on the Zf.
I think we will se more lenses from Nikon soon.
@@AndreiDimaReviews i really hope so...those huge lenses dont go well with the Zf, imho. I own old ais glass, which for me are the ideal size. Let's see🖖
try the 26mm 2.8 Z. it is really good! Otherwise, Voigtländer or the 1.8 Z primes
Great review, Andrei. Fantastic photos.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Purchased grip. Thank you! To anyone else looking, make sure you get version CA079 as its the only one with rear thumb grip. It'll make all the difference when using larger lenses.
I am glad you like it!
Ordered the grip through your link. Love this camera too.
Cool! Thank you!
Heck yeah, Andrei. Great video!!!!!
Thank you! I saw you are enjoying yours with some vintage glass.
Love the tip about the auto ISO method! Didn't know it could be set that way... much more fun
Glad it helped.
I have the Xt5 and the Nikon ZF, but I prefer the XT5's functionality and screen-and I'm a Nikon guy. The ZF has better AF and lowlight, but the XT5 is so easy to travel with.
True
You have such amazing composition. I love your photographs so much.
Thank you!
Excellent video! I've had the Zf since February with the 1st gen Neewer grip. Good to know there's a now better one, I've ordered it through your link. Thanks for that! The camera, as you said, is fantastic. Wouldn't trade it for anything.
Thank you! I hope Nikon will make more retro looking cameras.
Sooner or later I will definitely buy it :)
Thnx Andrei. Very pleasant style of presenting! And a good overview of pro and cons of this camera. I'm using a Z8 which i feel is just a great camera but thinking about the Zf since it came out. Maybe i'll get one. Reminds me of my old FM2.
Yo
Thank you! It is a good looking camera!
I recommend the 26mm 2.8 Z, the Voigtländer 40mm 1.2 and the Voigtländer 75mm 1.5 Z mount version for this camera. Nice review! It is a great second camera with the Z8 but I would sell it for the ZS!
Thanks for the tips!
I still want one of these babies. I have so many vintage lenses that would match the body style and a bunch of Sony glass. The fact that e mount to z mount adapters exists is a no brainer if you shoot Sony professionally and want a fun camera.
2:10 That's how I use it. :-) I just don't compose with the rear screen much anyway, due to it not being as easy to see because of how the prescription is on my eyeglasses (not corrected for close viewing and I don't want bifocals).
It"s a nice viewfinder.
That Nikon F3 looking grip though. ✨ 😮
Yep, it looks great!
Wow I had the same idea for how the ISO dial could function as a maximum limit on the Fuji cameras. It would really make these analogue controls so much more practical to me. If I could also set the analogue shutter speed dial to be the minimum. This would make my fuji dials absolutely perfect.
Cool! That would be great!
Nice review, although I dont have this camera I came for your review. I have another Nikon camera. I just bought the Viltrox 16mm 1.8 lens to accompany my Tamron 28-75 F2.8 G2 lens. Awesome pictures Andre.
Thank you! I hope you enjoy the Viltrox lens!
@AndreiDimaReviews I definitely love this lens. It does a great job in low light and is built well. I had the 13MM 1.4 lens on the XH2. Nikon has excellent glass, and 3rd party lens manufacturers are stepping up with excellent quality. I still think about the Laowa 10mm 0 distortion f2.8 lens. The 70 200mm f2.8 VR S is a beast, and for 300.00 more than the Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8, it is a much better lens.
In fact, I bought the Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8 and switched it for the Nikon 70-200mm F2.8 because it is on sale for only 300.00 more 2295.00 at B&H.
Great photos and reviews. Is there any efficient way to change minimum shutter speed on auto iso without dive in menu?
I would wish for a range finder style body with same specs :)
There are rumors Nikon is working on range finder style camera. I hope they are true.
I bought the XT5 and the Zf at the same time, partly due to this channel. After 2 months the XT5 stays home most of the time. To my own surprise, I rather pick the Zf in spite of the higher weight and bulk.
@@apocryphal_man same here!
Why tho?
@@Dave_Andre IQ, focus, build quality to name the main reasons for me. XT5 is still a fantastic camera!
I see. Just give me your xt5 if you dont need it lol
Both cameras are great, I hope Fujifilm will improve the build quality and AF in the next generation.
Excellent review, Andrei. Was there much of a difference between Capture One vs Lightroom on the Nikon Zf files?
Thank you! Not big but the contrast and colors are easier to edit.
@@AndreiDimaReviewsEasier to edit in Lightroom?
I went from a d7200 to a Z fc and find I bring it with much more often. Slightly smaller and lighter. The manual controls are fun to use. I get less noticed by normal people when out shooting but it causes photography people to strike up a conversation with me.
@@Letstryscience so you're suggesting photography people aren't normal??? Ok, you're probably right.😁
True, it attracts less attention.
Nice review. Where did you get flash shoe cover? It looks really nice.
It came with the grip, you also get a soft shutter button.
Hey Andrei, your video finally convinced me to pull the trigger on a Zf. Just wondering where you got that metal hotshoe cover? Really like that and was hoping to order one as well. Cheers mate.
I hope you enjoy the ZF! Soft shutter button: amzn.to/47VTely
I have a ZF and XT30II....nowadays I mostly pick up the ZF.
Why?
I use the X-T5 and ZF equaly.
Nice review, Andrei (as usual). You mentioned @4:20 that the Zf “can do magic” with the enhanced features. Were you referring to features in Lightroom and, if so, what features specifically were you referring to?
Thank you! I mean the A.I. denoise and super resolution in Lightroom.
@@AndreiDimaReviews Thanks for the additional information, Andrei.
Nice review, I love mines as well! Question, where is the neck strap from? Thanks.
Thank you! From WotanCraft: bit.ly/48TVlal
@@AndreiDimaReviews Thank you so much man, I appreciate it!
Good morning here in Mexico, I really like your analysis that you show in your videos, congratulations, and thank you for sharing. I have seen your two analyzes of the lenses, one Nightwalker 16 mm T1 1.2 and the other 7artisans 14 mm T2.9 Cine Lens for Nikon ZF, in your opinion which one works best for the Nikon ZF, at this moment I have the Nikon Z30 and I am going to migrate to the ZF, I thank you in advance for your attention. thank you. and now with this video of the ZF, it encourages me more to buy it! And forget the video of the VILTROX AF - Lente de marco completo de 16 mm f/1.8 para Nikon
Thank you! The Sirui lens is for APS-C and the 7Artisans is for full frame so the 7Artisans 14mm T2.9 is a better option for the ZF.
@@AndreiDimaReviews Thank you so much
Integrated grip, Cfexpress cards and no flickering sensor, then it's my camera. 😊
For this, I am happy to do without any video function. I take photos. Video I have my mobile phone.
A few lenses with aperture ring and depth of field scale would also be nice.
I hope Nikon is going to be the first camera company to have the courage to make an only photo camera, no video.
I want this camera so bad with the NIKKOR Z 24-120mm. I’m hoping a firmware update gives this H.265 5.4k recording, 4k120p and 1080p at 240 fps. With those features I’d happily buy this over the Z 6 III. But honestly, if I see the slightest sale I’d probably pounce right on it to own this baby! Great video!
Thank you! I don't think they will add 4k 120 but I hope they will add open gate recording.
Have you ever used a L-plate with the Zf? Many photogs, including me, use a L-plate to easily switch between vert and horz modes on a tripod, and it doesn’t look like the plate would fit with the grip on. Constantly switching between the grip and L-plate would be a deal breaker for a landscape photographer.
This was covered by Hudson Henry photography: ruclips.net/video/i6kPFPgUqMQ/видео.htmlsi=yZxMfUjFYchXO76M&t=2101 He uses the Smallrig grip though but i assume the Neweer has the same screw holes.
@@_f0x13_ Thanks, in the video he does attach both the grip and the L-plate. Sadly, doing so makes the Zf look as big as the Z8 :(
That Neewer grip really screams Nikon F3...
Yes😎
The Neewer grip comes with a brass soft shutter button. The combo makes shooting a little more ergonomic, without detracting from the ZFs retro tactile feel and aesthetic. I never thought I'd use the camera for work, but it really is modern enough on the inside to feel seamless alongside the other Z cams. So, here I am, pleasantly surprised! 😊
Great review!
Oh yeah…this with 40+ megapixels, the same picture style editor as the z6 and uncropped 4k60 internal …id buy that TODAY
That is what I want plus open gate.
@@AndreiDimaReviews it might actually happen tho…with current lineup, the z7iii wouldnt make a lot of sense, as the z8 would be the better camera in basically every regard (even against 60megapixels i still think the discounted z8 offer too much value)…
Now the zf is currently Nikons only true „Photo first“ camera, and to me it seems, that Nikon has been probing the marked with first the zfc (cheaper, apsc, less of a risk) and now th zf to gauge demand…but if the continue like that i could totally see a 61Megapixel ZF ii with still only 10bit video features. They could get the „old“ Sony a7r4/5 Sensor for it and prob. Sell it for 3000 Bucks. They could also keep their current processor, saving money as they wouldnt need to process 10k raw or whatever, and sell it as a „photography first“ tool that still has solid Video for anything below high end (just as the a7r5 has)…
The absolute pinnacle then would be to advance their z6iii Look Features and offer some Film-emulation looks themselves to lean even harder into Fujis niche, but without the compromises of the Fuji System (Apsc, Autofocus, dynamic range)…
I would buy that camera for 3000-3500€ bucks immediately… and as a primarily video creator i could still justify it if it brings some „good enough“ video features on the side..
@@m0nztam0nk I think they would do well if they just popped the 45mp sensor in a successor to this ZF!
How do you get that hot shoe cover????
It came with the grip, you also get a soft shutter button.
Nikkor z. 28 or 40 which is best lens
The 40mm
It is a great camera to learn photography, isn’t it? 😊
It really is!
hot shoe cover, where to get?
Soft shutter button: amzn.to/47VTely
That grip is different, did they release a updated version?
@@privatei4772 Yes
@@AndreiDimaReviews have you tried the older grip? How does the new grip feel compared to the old one? I use the smallrig currently. The smallrig has very grippy feel
@@privatei4772 I never tried the old neewer grip but I had the smallrig (sold it due to tacky/sticky grip) and Nikon GR1 grip (heavy and smaller grip area in front less comfortable), and just gotten the new neewer grip last night. I prefer the new neewer grip the most. Most comfortable to hold with small additional thumb rest at the rear, nice balance of size and weight, and looks great too. Will be selling the Nikon grip.
@@privatei4772 yes the new one has a “thumb rest “ and looks a little better…👍
I love my ZF just what I was looking for…I’m glad I waited and didn’t buy the ZF-C 👍
The ZF is way better.
What i dont like are: 1-flippy screen. This cam better suited for street, its better use tilt/ 2 w flip than flippy, at least use second screen in in the flippy back. 2- the front build in grip, why they use continous design instead of f3 design?
True, they should've gone with the F3 design.
I want.
You should get one. You can adapt your Sony lenses to it, they work almost like native lenses.
I have both this neweer and smallrig, smallrig is better imo. The neweer is wider on the base plate so it digs into youe hand more. Also the grip texture is too smooth its not grippy at all compared to the smallrig. And its barely soft. The thumb rest is nice but its also a chunk of metal and not comfortable as it digs into your finger. I wanted to like the neweer more but couldnt
It depends on what you're looking for. It seems you want a softer grip. I prefer a grip similar to a camera, and this one delivers. The wider base plate is cut in a way that doesn't dig into your hand. I don't mind the metal thumb grip; in fact, I quite like it the way it is. Also, you can get the card out easier with the Neewer grip.
It's too bad your auto iso trick to make the dial work in a sane way means you can't get down to iso 100
To all those who say they pick up their zf more and not the Fujifilm, just give me your fujis.
I sold D3300 not because of IQ, but because that thing is ugly.
Ok
