I really like the Arrtx pencils, but now that you have shared those tips I'll need to give it a whirl. I don't know what it is about your channel but you are number one on my list of favorite coloring channels. There are quite a few channels that I really enjoy, but your channel is absolutely, without a doubt, my favorite channel that I look forward to. I color a lot and I also work a lot, but maybe one day I will have the courage to start a channel. Thanks for all of your beautiful inspiration. As my little guys say to me: YOU ARE BEST! 🤩
Oh my goodness what a wonderful comment !!!!!! U really make my day !!! Thank you so so much that means so much to me! Ya i hope you do start your channel one day and if you need any help with anything you can always message me on Instagram! Id be happy to help ! Have a wonderful weekend my dear and happy coloring to you
When I come across a super smooth paper, or problematic paper, I will spray the page with workable fixative or a matte finish before i do any pencil work. Sometimes it can change the surface of the page just enough to make certain pencils work better. Great video. I have gone back and forth on these pencils so many times. I will eventually get them.
Great tip! Hi there !! Ya that makes a lot of sense !!! I have done something similar using the satin glazing liquid, but i have to be care-full and make sure its a very thin later . Thanks for stopping by and thank you so much for the comment !! So glad you liked the video . Happy coloring to you !
@@kdassaro ya if the layer is too thick it can do that, its very tricky to get a thin layer, i mostly use it for fixing other things but ya, its very tricky for pencils 💯
Hi Maia 👋 My main pencils are the Polychromos supplemented with my favourites from a huge, cheap pack of Brutfuners (sold as Wan Shui on Amazon but it says Brutfuner on each pencil) - sometimes I think all budget pencils come out of the same factory! Anyway they sound very similar to the Arrtx. A mixed bunch, some softer than others but some great colours particularly the deep, rich greens, purples and maroons. ❤
Hi dear !! Oh really ??? Ya not that i think of your coloring that makes sense !!! Ya i definitely think a lot of the cheaper brands do come out of the same place !! I think the Arrtx are different though, thats why it took me awhile to figure them out, they are different from the other cheaper sets. I. But i can tell you that i have the Soucolors and they are exact same as the brutfunner black barrel set. Lol thanks for stopping by my friend !!!
Arrtx are the last pencils I reach from my collection; bc they are hard on my hand. But they do have beautiful colors and they work well in conjunction with other softer pencils. I love the Festive coloring book, it's the one I worked on in December, I painted the 4 first pages. Very slicky paper ugh. I'm so happy for yOu, living close to nature only does good to us and this is a great season to walk barefoot and enjoy the flowers. Have a beautiful weekend! 💞
Wow 4 pages ???? Thats amazing !! That book is so adorable !!! Oh yes im all about grounding and walking barefoot ! My 5 year old loves being barefoot all day and i love that ! Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting ! Have a wonderful coloring week !
I agree with you about the Artex pencils, that some are softer and some are harder. They are ok but not my favorite. I have quit buying budget pencils as I have several sets but I seem to grab my polycromos or prisma or luminance and use them as that is what works the best. I figure instead of spending money on the budget sets will just save it to buy open stock when needed for the ones I really love. Great video as always Maia!!
Hi Linda !!! Ya i get what you are saying , nothing can ever compete with the bigger older high quality art supply brands, they are in a totally different ball game. If you can afford those better sets and already have them then nothing can come close ! But if someone wanted to spend less money and get a cheaper set of pencils , i would definitely recommend these to them, its a different playing field completely. Thank you so much for stopping by my dear and happy coloring to you !
@coloredbymaia6476 Oh yeah absolutely Maia I didn't mean to sound like a pencil snob. Lol I have just been collecting for alot of years and got the more expensive sets on sales over the years so this is what works for me now. But I totally understand that different people don't want to or can't afford some of the artist quality pencils. I don't think the Artex are bad for a budget set at all. Also if I were to pick my favorite budget sets I would add the Brut squares and the Mark Art pencils to the list. Thanks for all you do Maia!
@@lindatadlock9344 not at all my dear !!! Believe me i agree with you completely !!! Xoxoxoxo i appreciate so much the thoughts of people who have been at this for a while !!! Love chatting with you guys

I think you would like her, its called ColouringUPNorth , . Definately pull out the Arrtx and have a play, i just discovered they work great on Rita Berman paper ! Ya ur right i forgot to mention that they used many of prismas names and colors. Ya i think it depends on the paper, i just discovered they work amazing on Rita Berman paper and that one is smooth as well, i need to try them on Millie Marotta paper ! Happy coloring to u dear
Totally agree with you about these, they are a great cheaper pencil, some great colours, but there is a learning curve to work out how to get the best out of them. Definitely a more toothy surface, and layering is the way to go. This is one of the few pencil sets that I've actually bought a back up set for, as I like them that much. I use mine a lot in Amazon books, as they work well on that paper. 👍❤
Hi Wendy !!! Oh wow really ??? Thats good to know! If you agree with me, than i know im somewhat on the right track !! Haha! , ya that makes sense about using them on Amazon paper , i noticed that as well. I think they are a great budget set and i can see why so many people love them. I just recently discovered they work amazing on Rita Berman paper, if sharpened really well. So thats really cool , anyway thanks for stopping by Wendy i always appreciate your feedback and happy coloring !
Thank you so much!! I thought I was loosing my mind with Artxx pencils!! You said all I have found with them, if that makes sense. I kept taking them out and getting frustrated and putting them back. I am so grateful Maia!! Plus I have an order of books I found on book outlet....thanks to you!!!
Hi Beth !!! Ya its a learning curve with them and paper makes all the difference !! Dont give up on them they are great pencils given the right paper. I recently discovered that they work amazing on Rita berman paper !! And my friend said they work great on Mythographic paper so ill have to try that this week. Oh how exciting a book outlet order !!! Is this your first ever order from them ? Anyway enjoy !! Yay
Thanks so much for sharing this in-depth review!! I so wish Arrtx sold open stock as I don't need another set of pencils, but those light greens were stunning and would pair nicely with my currently line up. Thanks again!!! :-)
Oh ya open stock option would be amazing ! That pastel green is really unique and cool . “Current line-up” lol i love that !!! Anyway thanks for stopping by my dear and happy coloring to you!
What a lovely Friday treat to see your video pop up! Your review of these pencils was spot on!! For the price (especially with Amazon deals), I really like these pencils. They are currently in my top six (Prismacolors, Polychromos, Brutfuner Square, FC black edition, Kalour). I firmly believe PAPER is the number one factor to how pencils perform. This year, I started taking the last page in my coloring books and sacrificing it to make it a 'test page". I usually test my top 6 (and maybe another budget brand). I color and blend a small part of the page. Then next to it, I write down the name of the pencil and give it 1-5 stars based on my own experience with ease of laydown, blending, layers, and end result. There are pencils that score 5 stars in one book-- and 2 in another. I'm glad I write down my notes as then the next time I pick up the book, I can easily flip and see which pencils work best. I may also try to laydown a base of wc, alcohol markers, clear gesso, etc. and note how that works in the book. I even think the paper in Creative Haven books varies slightly depending on the author and year of publication. Anyhoo---I'm super stoked to know you will be doing a color choices video because your color combos are awesome. Your use of neon pink today was AMAZING. I could sit and watch you color and work on different WIPS for hours, lol. Thanks for letting us spend time with you. You make the world a more colorful place!

Gosh, what a great review, Using multiple books to test the pencils is so useful! And now that I have had them only a few days, I'm disappointed in them. They aren't soft at all. They don't blend as good as Brutfuner, which are my favorite set of pencils. I will say they do have a beautiful selection of colors, with dark colors, unlike Brutfuner, which didn't have enough of those at all. And they do hold a sharp point better than almost every pencil I've tried, but I bought them mainly for thinking they're soft and pigmented, but even in the swatching stage my hand started hurting from the pressure I had to use for it. In Johana Basford's books, they barely lay any pigment. I'm seriously disappointed in this set.
