If you're like me, you thought sure as shit Dave and Steve would be calling drag racing forever.....its great to be able to relive better days and times...
Little did we know this was the last time we would see The Ace in the winner’s circle and in a final round period. Cause by the end of the year he would hang up his helmet and retire. Was away for a few years before becoming a crew chief. I forgot who he started off with before later being crew chief for Ron Capps later. I wanna say Connie Kalitta after Tim Richards left (taking Kim LaHaie later Kim Richards with him) to be crew chief for Chuck Etchells after the death of Maynard.
Btw what a switch for Tim Richards in 1993. Suppose to be crew chief for Pat Austin only for a mutiny to happen and he left with Kim, Dickie Venobles, and 3 other crew members going too. Than being crew chief for Connie before landing with Etchells
@@Slinger43 I didn’t know until I saw the video of the Winternationals (not the live finals broadcast version). And Steve mentioned a mutiny. So I googled it and found an article. Tim and 5 crew members left (Kim and Dickie included). Walt seemed to treat his crew like a form of mafia. The loyalty to him part not the killing if someone snitched part. I was like “Wow. Really? Walt you some kind of Don? Loyalty?” Tim, Kim, & Dickie we’re the only named crew members. And they went on to great careers. Tim & Kim crew chief Kenny Bernstein to his second top fuel title (I keep thinking the first as well but seems Dale Armstrong was still with Kenny for that). Meanwhile Walt lost the top fuel team and Pat was strictly alcohol funny car until retirement
@@bigjoeofthe707 Yeah, it was a real shame, cause young Pat Austin was a real wheelman 🤷🏻♂️ Alway's loved & rooted for Walt's brother Bucky Austin, he usually just raced his TA/FC in division 7 on the west coast, but once in a while he'd pop up at The Gators, or at The US Nationals, he was pretty damn good too 💪 Thank's for the reminder of The Great Northwest Mutiny! 😂👍
@@Slinger43 man I don’t ever recall something like this ever happening. Crews being let go sure. Like Alan Johnson after he saw he would be unable to run his team alone but he at least have them a chance to seek employment elsewhere. Unlike Vandergriff. He shut his racing team down with no notice. I remember hearing how the crew members and the driver were not too pleased about that or even given a chance to find work elsewhere before the team shut down
You're my hero and thank YOU Red
I had forgotten about poor Ol' Maynard 🙏 😣 RIP MY ✝️
That Man was a great wrench & a better human being, just a great ol' Racer 💪
