This was a great Era, the cars sounded better too, IMHO.

9:24 If that sounds familiar, it was on TV during the Movie, Harry and the Hendersons.

Butch Blair did buy Joe Amato's old car. Joe Amato only ran that particular set up at 1 race at Brainerd in 1986.

I always found it strange how quite a few Top Fuel teams tried different aerodynamic solutions on their cars, then got abandoned almost immediately because they didn't get instant performance benefits.

@@MrMcKane well some top fuel cars in modern day are using canopies and if i remember correctly back than they ve abandon it because it makes the car 100 pounds heavier (or 45 kilograms)

Yep. The extra 100 pounds or so negated the aero benefits

I was there, track was in terrible shape & the racing really suffered for it, fuel car's up in smoke everywhere, even the Pro Stock's & Alcohol car's were slipin & slidin all over the place!
With that said, it was really cool to see Paulde win FC, place went nuts, as Dale & the "IN & Out" car were very popular throughout the entire Southwestern United States, especially in So-Cal, where there is nothing that compares to Pomona at dusk with the Fuel car final's 😎👍
