  • IN 1966 A 16 YEAR OLD STEVIE WONDER WROTE "ALL I DO" FOR MOTOWN SENSATION TAMMI TERRELL. AFTER HER UNTIMELY DEATH IN 1970, STEVIE RECORDED THE SONG HIMSELF AND MADE IT AN EVEN BIGGER HIT.

    The most amazing thing about this is that this was written by Stevie was he was sixteen. When I was sixteen, I was just a stupid kid while Stevie was writing songs that people would be listening to nearly 50 years into the future on some site called "RUclips" and people will continue to listen to forever.(long after RUclips is gone) What a genius.

    Another classic gem straight from the vault. Tammi Terrell, god bless her soul, was a terrific and talented singer, gone before her time. She left us with this classic, which, I hate to say, sounds just as good, if not better than Stevie's version.
    Motown lives!

    Rest in Peace Tammi Terrell. Heaven must have sent you from above. Thank you Steve for writing such a fantastic piece. Much respect to the collaborators, and of course the Funk Brothers, esp. those who've departed us. Thank you Mr. Gordy.

    • @arnborj
      @arnborj 9 лет назад +9

      +Rodney Davis Stevie Wonder is the greatest songwriter of our time and he lets you feel his song in its entirely when he sings it. Stevie would sometimes write songs for other artist e.g. "Until You Come Back To Me" for Aretha Franklin.
      I love this song more than yesterday. RIP Tammi..

    • @michaellewis7932

      To be fair, he didn't provide the "lyrical depth." That was Clarence Paul & Morris Broadnax, his co-composers who, like fellow Motown songwriter Sylvia Moy, usually wrote the lyrics to his melodies. After 1970 the lyrics were written by Syreeta Wright. Stevie Wonder didn't start writing his own lyrics without assistance till 1972 with Music of Mind.

    Stevie Wonder was and still is a charismatic, ex child prodigy. He's truly blessed with multi-musical instrument playing and songwriting skills. And has musical prowess and talent. A genius from an early age. Something he's always in interviews shown to have a strong faith in. And at the time he wrote it, he'd worked hard with the excellent in-house song writing team(s) at Tamla Motown.

    Originally recorded by Tammi Terrell in 1966 though unreleased, this was shortly thereafter recorded by Brenda Holloway on March 24, 1966 and, again, put in the can. As everyone knows, this did not surface as a release until its author, Stevie Wonder (who was 16 when he wrote this with his mentor Clarence Paul and Morris Broadnax), recorded it himself on his "Hotter Than July" album in 1986. The Four Tops also recorded a version in 1981 - after they left Motown, on their "Tonight" album (more famous for the song "When She Was My Girl")! In my opinion, the best versions were the ones by Stevie and by Tammi Terrell.
