    Hey, I know that airport! Good view of Des Moines and the marina taking off. Yes, someone from Des Moines, IA really did come there and gave this community its name. Good view of Redondo. Wonderful view of Maury Island. A lot of Seattleites own summer homes here. Good view of Dockton. I've swum in the Sound there many times, very refreshing on a hot August afternoon.
    Good view of Vashon. Good view of Bainbridge Island. Hey, there's my GF's parents' house! Great view of Seattle. Good view of Bremerton. Great views of the Coast Mountains of BC. Looks like the clearing began a little north of Bella Coola.

    I finally made it to the Seattle area just a few days ago. I've been wanting to visit the Museum of Flight up there for years & years. It did not disappoint, especially the outdoor pavilion where you can walk through the 707, 727, 747, 787, & Concorde, it was awesome. I want to second that I still watch your long-form vids, especially for future trips that I'm taking myself (Hawaii, Guam via the Island Hopper), great reference material. I've also gotten into the credit card/airline miles game myself since I have a bunch of travel left to do this year, and well into the future. It would be interesting, to me at least, if you show how you manage all the miles you earn.

      A rare chance yes, but one that I knew was going to happen ahead of time. So, it wasn't all up to chance. I had seen that Alaska was going to retire this livery and saw an internal memo that said it was going to operate AS65 on this particular day as a "farewell tour." So, I kind of knew it was going to be on this route haha. Still a very cool thing though, and even though the livery is gone now, it'll live on forever here!

    I always get a little bent out of shape when the plane has to cut the throttle so those down below can eat their ham sandwiches in peace as they kick back in their recliners and close their eyes, expecting total silence right next to a freaking runway. We're just up here trying to "fly" and gain altitude, but let's make sure we don't bother you, pal.

  • @aviationandotherstuff6571
    @aviationandotherstuff6571 Год назад

    Wow! I wanted to say, thank you so much for the detailed response.
    And man, you would smile at the fact that I have had the Venture since 2014!
    However, I just upgraded to the Venture X which, when you book with cash through the C1 portal, gets you 5X miles on flights and 10x on hotel and car. Not to mention that you get a $300 statement credit every year from travel booked through the C1 portal.
    Plus, 10K miles as an anniversary bonus.
    The annual fee is quite high at $395, but the statement credit and anniversary bonus along with some other lounge/status perks kind of cancel it out.
    Overall, I am excited to start using this credit card and I hope that I can travel more frequently and maximize the output.
    I was actually considering the Quest, but at least for my sake, I tend to go for the least expensive flight rather than stay loyal, plus, I don't travel more than 5 times a year so a flexible travel card is a must.
    Additionally, I was hoping you said some sort of American Express since I really want to combine the Venture X with the food card (Amex Gold) to maximize the points I am getting.
    I was curious if you have any tips on maximizing between those two, or if there are any comments you'd like to add to my possible line-up. :)

    • @sla31
      @sla31  Год назад

      Oh nice! So you're already rocking! I only have one airline branded credit card at a time. As you know from my channel, I don't stay too loyal either, as I try to fly everyone. But, I do try to keep at least one airline with higher level status and right now that United. I have looked at upgrading to the Venture X, but honestly I'm finding it hard to swallow the $395 annual fee when I already have that much in annual fees on other cards combined, when I wouldn't get the welcome bonus if I just upgraded. I don't want to cancel my Venture and re-apply, so for the moment, I'm sticking with it.

    Hi Skylite! Are you able to upload in HDR? I remember you telling me it was a RUclips issue right? Thanks!

    • @sla31
      @sla31  Год назад +1

      So yeah. I film everything in HDR and have for some time. The problem is that RUclips doesn't recognize the rendering format I use as having HDR even though it does. And to fix that, I have to render videos out in Apple ProRes instead. The problem there is that Apple ProRes files are massive. And this 2 hour full flight would be insanely large. Even if I had a hard drive big enough to hold it, it would then exceed the RUclips file size limits. So, at least for now, I'm stuck rendering in mp4 instead of m4v.

      Well, I started a RUclips channel 8 years ago and now it's my full time job. So, one must travel a lot to upload 365 video per year. Everything you see on here is paid for out of my own pocket, and is flown pretty much just to film for the channel.

    Hey @Skylite Productions I have been watching your content (mostly full trip Reports) for quite a while and have noticed it’s the same probably 10-15 airports over and over (at least it seems like it). I was just wondering if you had any plans to visit any new airports or maybe places you haven’t gone in several years? Maybe I’m just going crazy, but I’m pretty sure what I’m saying is pretty accurate.
    Otherwise I still love your content, I’d just love to see some new places in your videos!

    • @sla31
      @sla31  Год назад

      Well, see what seems to happen is that when I post new airports.... Nobody ever seems to see them. I will get comments months later like "how did I miss this one?" In 2022 I flew to 78 individual airports, and yes there are some that repeat themselves because they are hubs, or special flights like this one here. I've flown SEA-KTN before, but this was the Salmon's final flight, so I had to take it regardless of where it was flying. In 2023 so far, and we're only halfway through the year, I've visited 48 airports which means I'm actually on track to visit more airports this year than I did last year. Many of which have been brand new airports for the channel.
      So take this flight for example: ruclips.net/video/Isz31sns6Bc/видео.html
      That flight is from Anchorage to Homer Alaska. Homer, which is an airport I'd never been to and was an airport that really didn't have anything online for. I flew there and posted the video, and it is one of the worst performing videos I've posted all year. No one saw it, but then I post a video later from JFK-MIA on a 777 and it get's thousands more views in the first day alone...
      Honestly, I try to feature as many places as I can. I LOVE flying to new places and featuring them on the channel. But, they never perform well and they always seem to just get lost. So, yes there are airports that inevitably get featured more often. I've been in Seattle a lot this year. But, I've also been to and posted flights in and out of Medford, Pasco, Spokane, Jackson, Wenatchee, Bozeman, and Portland just to make a few others in the Pacific Northwest area. But all of those other ones, again.. Seem to just get kind of lost.

    • @LegitimateAviation
      @LegitimateAviation Год назад

      @@sla31 my apologies. I think where I was getting that idea is some of the takeoff/landing videos feature many hubs or connecting flight from the same cities from the past that you never uploaded as a full flight. I’m glad to see you are putting in the effort, and I will try to pay more attention to some of the evidently missed or forgotten videos.

    • @sla31
      @sla31  Год назад +1

      @@LegitimateAviation no worries my friend. I didn't take offense at anything you said. I just wanted to try to explain how I do honestly try to feature as many places as possible. I just flew to Ironwood Michigan. That video is coming up soon. Who has even heard of Ironwood, Michigan, right? And to be clear, I wasn't suggesting that you or anyone else just weren't "paying attention." I was more suggesting that, because of the way RUclips works, when a video get WAY more views because it features bigger markets like LAX or JFK, it then gets pushed more by RUclips than videos flying to Homer Alaska... So, I'm not saying that you or anyone else is just ignoring those types of videos. I just don't think RUclips pushes them out as much, because they do appeal to a smaller demographic.
