- How You Can Change Your Domicile to Texas as a Full-Time RVer // As a digital nomad who is full time RV living, I just recently changed by domicile in Texas from Washington with 4 easy steps after reviewing the Escapees Domicile page and domicile requirements as well as the mail forwarding service: Steps 1) get an address with Escapees mail service, 2) RV inspection, 3) RV registration or van registration, 4) Texas drives license. There are several RV friendly domicile states, but in this video I show you why I chose Texas for my RV domicile and RV registration, all of the domicile forms, how to get the domicile address using Escapees RV club, and doing all of this as a full-time RVer.

Hi, I'm Amber and in May 2017 I started this nomadic journey after selling my house and all my belongings to pursue this crazy dream of living out of my RV full-time and traveling all around North America.
After 1 year of traveling, I sold my 26 foot Winnebago Class C RV for a more nimble Class B Hymer Aktiv van. I couldn't have been more excited to continue my second year in a van that allows me to travel to more places and experience more in life.

For us under Medicare age, the health insurance piece of it is a major part of the full-time decision. Thanks for all this current, helpful info in this video. I will be checking into what is now available in Texas. I am eager to full-time… Downsizing is taking forever 😫Texas as a domicile is on my radar for sure! 👍🏻🙏😊

Hello. Most people (under retirement age) don't talk about Medical Ins. I see people listing expenses but no Insurance info. That's the only worry I've got about FTing. (note: it auto corrected to *dying* instead of FTing..hmm..maybe I DO have other worries!). Anyhoo..I love your channel & hope to be on road next month. I will continue search for Insurance.

I'd love to hear about the insurance options you discovered in your research, what you ended up with (deductibles, co-pays, etc.) and the cost.
Marla Escobar I haven't gotten health insurance just yet. Still working on it. I'll post more about it when it's complete. I am using the RVers Insurance Exchange as my means by which to obtain insurance. You might look at that as well.
I already live in Texas and plan on being a nomad in a few years when my kids are grown. So I’m thinking I will stay as Texas since I already have it set up. I just don’t love that I would need to register my car yearly. I wouldn’t want to not do it, I think they give you like a one year grace period for your registration if it goes expired over one year. So basically I would need to return every 1to 2 years to take care vehicle registration. I don’t like not following the laws. You could face tickets, car impoundment or court for not getting it done

I don't think you mentioned it but make sure you do the inspection in the same county as you are going to be registering your rig. It makes a difference. Welcome back to Texas. True Texans are born south of I-10.

Can you tell us name of the nationwide insurance plan you are using? I have not been able to find any in Texas.

I registered in Florida because of no inspection and I have my family there!
Can I register in Florida without any family there? Want to use something like Good Sam for mailing address. I have no family anywhere. Right now registered in Kansas. Just getting into this lifestyle and plan on being full time RV.

Florida doesn't have inspections or state income tax.
jhlittleelect right but their insurance is wow expensive compared to the plan in Texas and more centrally located for me. :)
But vehicle insurance is high.... no accidents, no tickets ever and our 6 months insurance bill is $600.!!!!
@@cathietonkin5577 You should check your insurance co. I pay 535.00 a year for class a 36 ft pusher motorhome full coverage .It depends a lot on what county you are reg.
Can you inform what your Escapees address looks like? Do all Escapees domiciles have the same Livingston address but maybe with some other numbers after it or such? Any problem getting businesses to accept it? I hear some domicile addresses with certain domicile-providing companies have trouble being accepted by certain businesses. And ... how did you inform the IRS of address change? Thanks!

What is the inspection for I’ve never had to do a vehicle inspection so that makes me a little nervous LOL is it Emissions or something else

The Auto Inspection rule is confusing. What do you mean by "every so often". How does the state determine when you have returned and then have 3 days to get inspected? What if you're just driving through, is that returning?

Opted not to have health insurance. But, that was due to Obamacare's high premiums not because we were nomads.

How can you have your vehicle registered in New Mexico with domicile in Washington and insurance in Washington?

How much is your rv insurance in Texas? In FL. Vehicle insurance is higher and health insurance is not the paper it is written on from blue cross.
manatee $1,732 which is discounted by around $200 for paying annually rather than monthly. It also includes a full-timers rv package.

I am currently a Florida resident and with the knowledge of $900.00 a year for full-timers rv insurance; I’ll keep mine in Florida. After all....I was born here and my DL is current for a long while !!!!!!! Thanks Dianna Barbee :)
I live in the province of New Brunswick, Canada. We are purchasing our Aktiv (white just like yours lol) from Ontario. So we pay Ontario HST (13%) at time of purchase. Then we have to go register in our own province upon return. Since HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) is 15% in NB, we have to make up the difference of an extra 2% of sales price ugh! Then we have 14 days to get it inspected and pay a bunch of other fees on top of that. What a tax grab!

@@AmberJBaldwin Yah you guys don't know how good you got it lol. That so called free health services in Canada comes at a premium through high sales and income tax. No we won't be full timing. Hubby is going to semi-retire next year so will be spending 4+ months in the US and probably hit western Canada too. He is already making plans on using this van as a work promotion vehicle! So much for retiring Lol.
