Thanks for solving the steam problem with an instant pot for me. I've been wondering how to handle that in the RV. Definitely do more cooking videos in the van with the instant pot. I'm getting the stackable things with the contraption now. Thanks.
I Do wash my beans, but not rice! I think if it's sprouted it breaks down better in the gut, especially beans! You can buy them already sprouted so you don't have soak them. It will save on water.😊
I dont wash my rice either.,, i know that once i do start to live FULL time in my RV once i get it; i; I’ll be using the RTE rice in pouches as they take up less space and require no extra water once added to already cooked meals in the IP. Learned this from FULL TIMERS who live in Alaska. Blessings !! Deb
If you buy imported rice from either 3rd world countries or countries with less stringent food or environmental regulations, you should rinse rice. Arsenic or other pollutants in water where rice paddies are may absorb these toxins. No need to worry about nutrients getting washed since they are already mostly stripped away from white rice. As far as dirt & bugs, they may exist with rice that is packaged in porous packaging like burlap.
Pamela ahhh..you're so sweet Pamela! Thank you. I'm trying to get better. I stiffin up sometimes in front of the camera which isn't my natural personality so I appreciate you noticing.
That stackable metal container is a Tiffin container . In Spanish countries we call them Fiambreras (origin meaning fire in the hearth) they were and are still used as lunch boxes in many countries (India, Germany, Latin America, England etc) as lunch boxes bc men then could heat there lunches with the containers over the fire. My uncle always used to come pick up his lunch at our house & mom packed his container sometimes with two stacks sometimes up to four stacks depending what she cooked that day. So cool they continue the use of these Tiffin containers inside of the Instapot. Instant pot is your fire in the hearth 😎🤗👍💖

You have the exact same one that I have the instapot duo mini. Got lucky found one at a thrift store for $6 didn't have the gasket after getting the gasket online total cost $15. Yet to use it much I have only gotten the gasket today. First test was eggs 6 minutes 9 eggs (3day old or more peel easiest) easiest eggs to peel in the world if you pressure cook your eggs hard boiled.
Since you mention trying to eat "whole food" (or clean eating approach), I thought I would mention that the brand of ginger you used has sugar, which many people like to avoid. I have used a couple of non-sweetened minced gingers for cooking: Emperors Kitchen Organic Chopped Ginger or Christopher Ranch Chopped Ginger . Both are in small glass jars similar to those with minced garlic. They are usually found in the produce section. Walmart carries the Christopher Ranch brand.
Hi Amber, super recipe. Now i'm hungry and i need to head for the kitchen. Maybe when you are doing this kind of video you could let us know your GPS co-ordinates so we can all head over there. White or Red? Washing your rice gets rid of the starch. And then there's the washing up. Stay safe and keep up the good work.
Pedro ElGordo lol....hahah on GPS. Glad it was good enough to make you feel hungry. I guess I did my job well. Nice tip on the rice rinse too. Thanks so much. Do you have an Instant Pot? What's your favorite dish?
@@storychasing Hi Amber, no i don't have an instant pot....yet! But after watching you wielding your wooden spoon, i'm seriously thinking about it. Fave recipe? Chicken or fish (not shellfish) and lots of veg and some flatbread of course.
I too will be a solo RVer in a 19 ft ascent. Just bought the 3qt and the Lotus pot in pot. It looks identical to yours. This recipe helped me so much. Would love to see more recipes using the pot in pot as that is really the best use of energy. Also what determines using the lid with holes or the solid one. Thanks for the excellent video.
Hi Amber That looks wonderful. I would call that thing a cradle that holds the cooking containers. I've never washed rice in my life. Also best not to refrigerate tomatoes.
I love how everything in your kitchen is just so close at hand. Goodness, I get super-annoyed having to walk around to find all the tools and/or food that I need in my apartment kitchen. Even for mise en place! :-) Also, I love that white bowl, and your multicooker advice...it never occurred to me to reheat food in it! Our device is the 6qt CrockPot brand, so I'm wondering if there are steamer pans for that size/brand, or if the Instant Pot ones would work...doing some research.
Pressure cookers like you use here are the way to go. This show was a good idea. And I believe the 3qt size Insta Pot only uses 700w. Amber, ever going to do more RV Insta Pot shows? Cooking and clean up is so easy in these things. Be cool if someone did an RV cooking and tips series, especially with low watt appliances (700w or less). How's the Dash airfryer holding up?
Rollin Nollin do you have one? I kind of love them too. Pretty easy to have in an RV/van as well. I will have some more videos coming out at some point with the cooking. I have so much content that people want! :) Thanks for the nudge.
Thank you for sharing this! I'm very interested in seeing you cook more, not my strong suite and I will soon be on the road. I bought the Duo mini instant pot and will get the inserts. I looked at the direction for cooking in it and got overwhelmed and put it away! :) So thank you for taking the mystery out of it!
Your EFT Source ahhhh...yes I hear this often about the Instant Pot pressure cooker which is why I went into a pretty thorough explanation instead of just cooking. Glad that helped and have fun coming up with dishes.
Story Chasing, definitely more instant pot recipes and I'm interested in seeing the air fryer as well. I don't have one but would love to see at least one recipe to see how it works. The pot in pot intrigues me. I'll have to get me some. Love our instant pot. We enjoy cooking sweet potatoes in ours often.
Love the recipes for the Instapot! If you are using doTerra essential oils, maybe you could put a drop of ginger instead of minced. That's what I do with stir fry & it's Wonderful & so fresh!
I know the Hymer Activ has perhaps the best electrical system among all Class B especially with the solar plus underhood/engine generator. But an Instant Pot draws a ton of electricity. Can you really use this when you're not connected to shore power?
alliejr Absolutely! I'm never hooked to shore power and use it almost daily. Most of the draw of energy comes in the beginning when it's getting to pressure and then as soon as it's at pressure it uses almost no energy at all.
@@storychasing Thanks and excellent recipe. Will give it a try at home. (also, no need to apologize or justify your diet- eat mostly veggies plus fish- it's all good whatever label you put on it).
alliejr so glad you want to try it! It's yummy! I hope you like it. LOL....people give me a lot crap on here about this stuff which, honestly I don't really care, but I was being half snarky because I know somebody will say something. :)
@@storychasing I wanted to know that also. Hey don't worry about those you know who's. The IP is a great pot to have as it doesn't add heat to your van either, and is quick and easy cooking retains more vitamins to. Get those left over beans etc., and make something out of them, do a mixed beans soup and veg.
I just bought my first ever camper trailer less than 2 weeks and my first IP on Black Friday. I haven't used the trailer yet because I am in Montana and camping weather won't be here for 5 months or so. Meanwhile I'm learning to use the 3 qt IP. I was concerned that I would have to be hooked up to shore power to use the IP. Is it a big drain on the battery? How do you keep your battery from running down?
Angela Dailey Congrats on your journey with the new camper and IP! ☺️ I just make sure I have enough solar power coming in so I'll cook during the middle of the day so it has time to recharge before evening. If I'm driving, I'll cook while I'm driving by setting the IP on the ground so it doesn't tip over. Driving keeps batteries charged or other option is just starting the RV and that will charge batteries if I need it, but mostly I don't.
I bought a Mini Duo at the end of summer when it was greatly reduced but just finally got around to using it for my Thanksgiving meal - roast, potatoes and carrots. Question for any Instantpot user: The recipe said to pressure cook the roast first for 55 minutes. Then add potatoes and carrots and pressure cook for (can’t exactly remember). However, in order to choose pressure cook for the second part, I had to first hit Cancel, then it would let me choose Pressure Cook. Is that correct or did I need to do something else? Roast came out great and the potatoes were some of the best I’ve ever had.
Jody's Journey nicely done on the Thanksgiving dinner! Yes, you would want to hit cancel, let out the steam, and then open and add remaining ingredients, then start the pressure cooker again at how many remaining minutes you needed. Sounds like it turned out well though.
@Jody's Journey, yes you did good with the way you used your mini duo IP, you can also cook meat and veggies all at the same time too, just like a pot roast, just cut your potatoes and carrots larger size pieces and cook them altogether, put some herbs and spices what you like the flavor of, and 1 cup of water/stock.
Any type of cooking that can be done easily while full-timing works for me. I hope to be traveling next year, so I am gearing up and preparing.@@storychasing

I really like your Channel and your high quality videos! My partner and I are buying a Hymer Aktiv loft model this spring here in WA state and hitting the road for the summer. As far as the food labels go: You do you! I am a vegan (my partner is not) and my opinion is if you are transitioning to being vegan and already have eliminated so many animal foods that helps the planet, animals and humanity. Take your time, don't listen to the haters. =D Also I have been wondering how you have dealt with all the wildfire smoke in your west coast travels since the summer? I may have missed it in one of your videos. Would be great to hear how you handled it being on the road and with your Hymer.
Justin Thibodeaux Thank you so much and glad you enjoyed my videos. 😌🙏 Congrats on the impending purchase!!! I'm from WA too! Oh yeah, I was just being snarky on the video about the vegan stuff. People always have to comment on the stuff they think I'm doing wrong so I beat them to it. lol. Anyways I find it rather humorous. Good for you on being vegan as well. Well the smoke....I fled to the coast is what I did. Not much smoke there if any at all. I tried to go to some places inland but it was just awful.
If you're buying fortified rice that means the rice has been thoroughly washed and vitamins have been added to the rice if you wash the rice prior to cooking you are actually damaging the entire reason day put the vitamins in there. There are some in this world that are in a wheelchair because of a lack of a certain vitamin I forgot which one it was a d or e or something like that but yeah that happens.
Great Video on using your Instant Pot on Solar! I am curious about how you clean your instant pot, and how much water is required. Also, how many times per week do you cook using your instant pot? I am subscribed, but I am not familiar with your story yet, are you a full time RV'er, or a weekend warrior?
Would you please tell me what that large urn with the straps around it is? It would be a very large urn for coffee for one person so doubt that’s what it is. I enjoyed this video.
Sallie Power Thanks for the tip Sallie! Maybe I'll give a quick rinse and see if it tastes different. :) Do you have a favorite dish in the Instant Pot?
Story Chasing Not yet this was the first of your videos I’ve watched. I’m not a healthy eater . I’m just looking for simple meals to prepare. I was spoiled by my husband who cooked for me for 43 years . He was a gourmet chef. Now that he’s gone I ‘m lost in the kitchen.
@@storychasing actually the rice rinsed before cooking is much fluffier and doesn't stick, it's more like the grains are individual than non rinsed rice.
I didn't put all my stuff away after adding it all and my black pepper grinder fell to the floor and disintegrated. Don't trust grinding up pepper that may have been blended with glass so yeah I didn't pick it up I threw it away.
This was great, Amber! I am definitely interested in more cooking videos. I’m in the process of transitioning from vegetarian to vegan right now. But no fish for me. 😉
there are Basmati varieties of rice that require no rinsing, I would at least just add a little water to the measuring cup and swish and rinse:) BTW I went Whole Food Plant Based in March of 2017 and lost 90 Lbs. Thanks for the video.
So not really trying to be a stickler on the lingo but I have since learned what vegan means. I was a vegetarian who 90% of the time ate vegan & would often say "well I'm more vegan bc I don't eat dairy except for eggs ocassionally." However, Vegans don't just EAT plant based - EVERY aspect of their life is cruelty free. Although I wish I can do that - I know I am not that yet. Most of my cleaning products are & I don't wear make up or use any commercial beauty products. But I DO rely on medicines. I've given up eggs now but I don't always watch with a bread or cracker (except ones who clearly use dairy like cheese itz). Also vegans are activist. Vegan is 100% about being cruelty free throughout your entire life & not just what you eat While plant based is not. Plant based is EATING a vegan diet. So I never say I'm vegan. Bc I know I am not.
Lucia C. Thank you! It’s insulting and undermines the sacrifices of those truly making them when random people decide they’re “vegan, but...”. There’s no such thing. Either you are or you are not. I was, for 8 years until an issue arose with my health. Now, for the time being, I am pescatarian because I am unable to consume the go-to proteins for vegans. I wish people were more respectful and knowledgeable of the drastic difference between the lifestyles. You can’t be vegan except for certain days when it becomes an inconvenience. That’s like saying I’m an African American woman, but 4 days a week I’m actually Caucasian because it’s easier and I feel like indulging in a more convenient lifestyle”. Ummm no, you’re not; it doesn’t work that way and it’s a horrible insult to those who have actually lived that reality. People shouldn’t try to educate the public when they are clearly completely uneducated on the topic themselves. 🤦♀️

We're newbies to the mini insta pot, ordering the "pot in a pot" thank you for the info and really enjoyed the cooking and the explanations .
There is something about your face, hair, eyes and your voice ;)
All that to side, the lifestyle you picked is super impressive!
Thanks for sharing your expertise on these things. Most appreciated.
Malcolm Nicoll you're so welcome. Do you have an Instant Pot? Have you used it?
Not yet. Looks like I'll have to get one for the road. @@storychasing
You prepare the way you want don't worry about the ingredients you use I'm not vegan but it looked good
Alex Samaniego Thank you so much and glad you enjoyed my videos. 😌🙏 Glad you liked it.
Washing the rice reduces the starch and makes it fluffy and it doesn't stick together.
Looks delish!! Btw, I don't wash my rice either 😊
Yes please more instant pot cooking 👍
You got it!
☺️ hahaha. "wielding wooden spoon"!
Christine Brigham thank you and you're in luck...I have a special change coming to my channel soon that involves more cooking!
Story Chasing wonderful
I do like the cooking and I like to see how it is served or presented
Hi Amber
That looks wonderful. I would call that thing a cradle that holds the cooking containers. I've never washed rice in my life. Also best not to refrigerate tomatoes.
GrandMarais - lol Nice..cradle I like it. Oh good another non-rice washer! :) Do you have the Instant Pot too?
I love how everything in your kitchen is just so close at hand. Goodness, I get super-annoyed having to walk around to find all the tools and/or food that I need in my apartment kitchen. Even for mise en place! :-)
Also, I love that white bowl, and your multicooker advice...it never occurred to me to reheat food in it! Our device is the 6qt CrockPot brand, so I'm wondering if there are steamer pans for that size/brand, or if the Instant Pot ones would work...doing some research.
Yes, they do come in the larger size IP's.
I found some steamer pots that look like they would fit both, which pleases me. Thanks, @@pjd2709
I love your hair color, it's so pretty.
Thank you so much
Pressure cookers like you use here are the way to go.
Love, love, love this video!! Definitely want to see more like this video!
Lisa Guittar Thank you so much and glad you enjoyed my videos. 😌🙏 What kinds of cooking do you want to see, i.e. more Instant Pot, vegan recipes, etc?
Story Chasing, definitely more instant pot recipes and I'm interested in seeing the air fryer as well. I don't have one but would love to see at least one recipe to see how it works. The pot in pot intrigues me. I'll have to get me some. Love our instant pot. We enjoy cooking sweet potatoes in ours often.
Lisa Guittar I love sweet potatoes in mine too. I make a lot of the "bowls" with sweet potato, quinoa, vegetables, and more...
This was great - would like to see more videos like it 😎🍽🚐
Andrée Marie Thank you so much and glad you enjoyed my videos. 😌🙏 More to come! You all love these cooking videos!! hahaha
Love the recipes for the Instapot!
If you are using doTerra essential oils, maybe you could put a drop of ginger instead of minced. That's what I do with stir fry & it's Wonderful & so fresh!
But I put the ginger at the end so my essential oil doesn't evaporated.😊
Ohh wow good idea.
Great tutorial on the instant pot! 😁👍🏻
Heather Lucero Thanks!☺️
Yes more
Coni Kindvall Thanks so much! ☺️
just thinking about an insta pot for my travel trailer - more recipes, please!
☺️
I wish I had smellavision! The meal looked great, thank you!
☺️ lol
I love my Instant Pot and Ecovana PIP. Looking forward to hearing about your new appliance to replace an oven.
Maureen Tweedly Yep that's exactly what I have too Maureen. What's your favorite dish to cook in it?
Great cooking demo - yummy 😛
☺️
Amber, the only reason to wash your rice is to reduce the amount of carbs you're consuming.
I love this channel!!
Jason Ferguson WOW!!! Thank you so much for your kind comments.
Like the cooking, very well explained.🇨🇦👍
Parksguy well you are so welcome! Thanks for watching!
Story Chasing Excellent. That’s what I did. Now I’ve put that pot in a pot set on my Christmas wish list. 😊👍🏻
What you cancelled was the keep warm feature that kicks in after the pressure cooking is done.
That looks delish!
☺️
Beautiful
Looks so yummy...great job 👍👌😎✌🏻
Are you on solar or shore power?
I definitely would like more cooking vids!
Rio Seven Very cool! Thank you. What types of cooking do you want to see, i.e. types of food, or Instant Pot, one pot meals??
Any type of cooking that can be done easily while full-timing works for me. I hope to be traveling next year, so I am gearing up and preparing.@@storychasing
☺️
Which of the cameras in the Camera Gear List do you use to shoot your videos? Your lighting, angles and clarity are nothing short of superb.
Malcolm Nicoll You don't know happy you made me with "nothing short of superb". I'm really trying to up my quality with video and audio. Thank you! Here's is what I used for camera and audio: My main camera Panasonic Lumix: amzn.to/2PKRjsz & Audio Recorder and Mic: amzn.to/2DPqrEd
I don't wash rice either. Supposedly there is arsenic in the rice and you should rinse rice. Keep doing what you want!
Louise Kelly Thank you!
Just discovered your channel. We’re plant base and have an RV. nice to have another channel to watch. Is your IPot a 3 qt or 6 qt. Thanks
Sorry. Needed to watch the rest of the video and found that it is a 3 quart. Thanks
Marilyn Polzin WELCOME and thank you for subscribing!!! It's a 3qt. Good luck!
Marilyn Polzin 😀
Thanks for sharing!
☺️
Would you please tell me what that large urn with the straps around it is? It would be a very large urn for coffee for one person so doubt that’s what it is. I enjoyed this video.
Linda Anderson It’s a water filter/dispenser - think it’s a called a Berky (not sure that’s spelled correctly).
Linda Anderson its a Berkey water filter! That would be hilarious if it were a coffee dispenser. ☺️
☺️
Rice only needs to be washed to remove starch, some people prefer to but not necessary. BTW I love your van
☺️ Thank you for the tip.
I understand what your saying I am vegan plus to
thank you, I could make that at home!
karen knapp absolutely you could!!! This was just to show that you can cook really well still in a small space.
No one gives the size of instant pot which is being used so thank you for these 2 links below
Pamela Fitzpatrick Sweet! More coming up for sure. Congrats on your transition too!
Story Chasing Thanks, Amber! I’m going to binge watch all of your videos. 🙌🏼
☺️
As long as you buy rice grown and packaged in the USA there is no good reason to rinse it. Thanks for sharing.
I don’t cook much on the road, but even I might buy one of these now. :)
TravelingSolo You won't regret it. It's highly functional with a small footprint.
Winner, winner fish dinner, that looks good. How does you IP run off of you van, AC DC or ?
☺️ AC. I have to have the inverter on.
Taco Bell refried beans are as vegan is the fat used to fry the beans are is, and the seasonings in the refried beans.
Hey vegan plus fish is great by me
Aren’t the stasher bags hard to clean?
Christine Brigham 😀 I haven't found that to be the case. Just wash the inside out and turn upside down to dry.
Is it a mini Insta pot?
😀 Thanks for watching and commenting !
there are Basmati varieties of rice that require no rinsing, I would at least just add a little water to the measuring cup and swish and rinse:) BTW I went Whole Food Plant Based in March of 2017 and lost 90 Lbs. Thanks for the video.
Ray J - thank you for the tips on the rice. LOL. Good idea on the quick rinse too! Sweet 90 lbs!!! wow! Congratulations! Are you still WFPB?
@@storychasing Yes still WFPB no desire to go back. I still eat fish but only a couple of times a year ...thanks!
Great job, Ray!
Super cool. :0
A pescatarian is a vegan that adds seafood.
Has anyone ever told you you look like Jan Arden? 🙂
I don't wash rice either :)
What size instant pot is that?
Ha sorry heard later in the video....3qt
does anyone ever put like quarter or halves of lime or lemon in the instapot instead of the juice ?
buck rowley I would think the citrus rine would be bad and make it bitter.
Hello how are you
Clement William doing well thank you.
That was fun to watch! Looks delicious and I like those pot in pots. I need to get an Instant Pot. I made the frittata that I posted Tuesday on my Instagram page in the air fryer. I love that thing. Your van looked really nice and bright in the video. It's so pretty. Thumbs up on the cooking videos... keep 'em coming! Safe travels and HAPPY cooking, Amber!
Susan F oh wow that's incredible on that air fryer frittata! I love my air fryer too. Yes get the Instant Pot. It's so versatile. Thank you so much. Yes the sun was shining bright that day! hahaha. You never know what it will be like with traveling.
@@storychasing Thank you! I wondered about the electrical draw and then saw the question posted and your answer. That's good to know. How does the air fryer do?
I totally understand you, but to say
you are vegan plus fish is like, saying i dont drink alcohol just wine :)
Alen Kuscar - Design and Photo 😀
Oh, god. No ice cream?
Kurt Cobain said it's okay to eat fish cause fish don't have any feelings.
