    In this video you get to see my first trip out in the Southern Chesapeake Bay this year. Normally I would have been out several times since mid Feburary, but life had differrent plans for me this year. But that is how it goes sometimes, and I am grateful to be out there when ever I can. Enjoy the video!

    Love the video! Curious what you meant by those big sheepshead being "citations". Could you provide more info?

    • @SouthernReelsFishing
      @SouthernReelsFishing  Год назад

      Any Sheep over 24 inches or 10 lbs in virginia is considered a trophy fish. You could apply and recieve a citation/trophy from the state for it.

    I noted your comments about spot lock toward the end of the video. Does spot lock normally work when the bay is calmer.

    • @SouthernReelsFishing
      @SouthernReelsFishing  Год назад

      Yes it works pretty good most of the time, it was really struggling with the huge rolling waves coming in from offshore this day.

      Yeah I tried it a few times, too many snags. The pilings are almost snag free

    When you go to the CBBT pylons do you have particular spots or do you just pull up to pylons n fish until you catch? Not asking your spot just curious about strategy.

    Always leave a more line at a tip of your rod young man left it too short that resulted in a broken tip of his rod

      For real I was screaming release the bail the whole time lmao

    • @sergeytaranovich2368
      @sergeytaranovich2368 Год назад +1

      @@bkdt8ter670 rule of thumb never go shorter than full length of a rod you using, remember my dad yelled at me for rilling too short, raising four boys my self all of them love to fish and I did yelled at them for same reason 😂 now my youngest is 13 and he fish like a pro

      At some point we gotta respect the fishery. These fish are 15 to 20 years old, and they can be fished out just like so many other species have been. There are only so many of them...

  • @mr.j-rcs822
    @mr.j-rcs822 Год назад

    WTG Jesse.... So are you using weights? why not keep those monsters?

    • @SouthernReelsFishing
      @SouthernReelsFishing  Год назад +5

      Thanks! We use length for release citations, and weight is for keeper citations. I don't like keeping any Sheep over 24 inches, mainly because that fish is probably 15 years old. These fish have been hit hard over the last few years, and they can be fished out just like every other species has been. These monsters are the breeders and they are keeping the sport alive. They deserve to live. Plus the smaller younger ones are better eating anyway.
