Great little synth, I still have mine from over 10 years ago even though I own an MS20, I really like the sequencer and the sample and hold, it can sound great when used on the filter in 'one shot' mode 😊
@johnnyposh makes the click between skipped steps softer. Adds a little longer attack. It's just a capacitor. I used a 3 position switch with 2 different caps and off
Fair enough opinion. But the reason these fetch higher prices than Volcas are because they are highly modifiable. Schematics are available, the circuit board layouts are roomy, the whole box is sturdy and spacious, and it has more proper knobs and switches. Also, historically, these mark Korg’s 2nd experiment in a modern take for analog synths. All of Korg’s analog line in the last ten years comes from this modest and quirky experiment.
@@johnnyposhControl it via midi (via mod) or pitch/cutoff (firmware 2.1 and an adapter) and it goes from a little box to jam with to a pretty tight little monosynth built around the incredible MS-20 filter. None of the Volcas have that sound. The Behringer K-2 is a cheap MS-20 clone with a ton more features, so that's a good modern alternative, but it doesn't have the jam mode that the Monotribe does. I had one of these for years and I miss it. I think I'm going to buy one again soon.
The trick is to play it like a non-synth instrument, lots of know tweaking and switch changes. To me the sound is better than most of the volca's, it also helps to have a proper overlay on the device showing the v2 controls clearly. Ultimately is a monotron with more controls, basic sequencer and drums. Run the output through a decent distortion and the sound is lots better as well. ruclips.net/video/l6keUBE2QEE/видео.html is a good example of using it properly, skip to 3:36 if you're impatient.
The machine itself is a 5. No midi. Can't save patterns. Drums have no adsr or velocity. All that's going for it is the ms20 filter and that's if you can run other sound into it and out while effecting that sound with said filter. Save your money folks.
It defs is outdated, few folks have mentioned mods to get midi into it and some other things but once u start adding the $ up there are better options.
Crazy all that comes out of something so small! Cool!
Defs a cool little unit.
Fair review

How do you like the ms20?
Midi mod and click mod makes it sooo much better add distortion and it an aggressive little bass monster
What does the click mod do?

Oh gotcha thats a sweet mod! Thanks for the heads up on that one.
Tune in.
I still fcking love mine and I bought it in 2023.
The Env is only for the VCA. All the Control right of the VCA belongs to the LFO. You can save one Sequence.
Thanks for clarifying!

Had a feeling the price reflected the mod abilities, must say it sounds excellent.
Most volcas are quite modfriendly.

The LFO is one of my favorites, that thing can tear a hole in space. It’s on the Monologue too, which is MUCH more playable.
I like that description 😆
What do you think that machine is??
This is the Monotribe 🤫
The MIDI mods & the Ver.2 overlay really make it fun. Too bad the Montribe's sell for $$ now 😑
They really have held their value well, im guessing due to how well they sound. Will have to check out the mods your talking about
I love it.

Good tips thanks!
I know someone who has one.
Incredible
I know someone who has one but I don't really know them
@@dwb1980 I knew someone once and they had something. I think it was a Korg Monotribe.
Thank you Maryanne, very cool!
I know someone who thought about buying one.
still better than your DFAM right there ;)
I like the dfam alot!
korg wont give us anything better. analog drums and bass in the same box? the snare is better than the volca beats snare right lol.
Defs better sounding drums!

@@johnnyposh Better options like what?
