Grandin is well-known and respected for her work in handling cattle and designing humane cattle facilities. The Colorado State University professor is autistic and she has shown autism need not be a barrier to success.

Autism is simply another way of thinking and perceiving. Mainstream teachers unprepared for students who are affected by this, often are inadequate to the task, or do psychological harm, by labeling a child 'slow witted', or some other pejorative name. Temple was so blessed to have had enlightened people around her when she was young. That probably set her on a course for success - even then.
