As a beef producer I am so glad to have recently found Temple Grandin. I have always managed my cattle in a calm way and done my best to give them the best life they can. It heartens me to find this video on an Australian Beef production account. The industry definitely needs to lose the macho cowboy cruel image. It is an image perpetuated iften by people not in the industry mostly but there are if course some bad operators out there, but I believe they are the minority. Anyone who is not treating animals well should leave the industry . I have bought in replacement cows that have obviously been mistreated, they are scared of motorbikes , stressed and dangerous in yards. It takes a couple of years of careful handling to calm them but it can be done. I am so upset that this happens. Too many yahoos out there. The industry needs more women
Well crazy enough it's the vegans pointing out the bad actors, and as much as I love eating me a hearty steak, I can't condemn them entirely for their hatred of the industry because they are often the ones pointing to the cruelty of humans. There's been links showing that calm animals give better quality meat anyway, so the industry can treat their livestock, the less evil the vegans can point at, and the better tasting meat we get to appreciate. It's a win - win from my perspective.
I love the way she could’ve cared less with that guy was saying but the minute he got too close to where he wasn’t supposed to be she brought him back. Pay attention people. She doesn’t care about your feelings. She cares about the cows feelings. Listen to her she knows what she’s talking about.
I went to one of her seminars at the University of Lethbridge in the early 90s. Awsome person, used her knowledge working on my own cattle and at a 10,000 head feedlot i worked at.
They aren't sure if the fact loose chains flapping and clanging in the wind definitely will make cattle balk is from vision or sound. They are attuned to anything that flaps, even clothing. If it's a consistent background noise and they aren't otherwise stressed by having visual balking cues, they might get more used to it. Also, I do think that an additive stress model might exist --- if the total reduction in stress levels from her methods helps cattle handle routine plant sounds better. I have raised, named, and eaten meat. We tried to give them the best lives they could have, and honor their sacrifice by both humane slaughter and by remembering the true cost of meat and the obligation of man to domesticated species to not just wait until demand drops, but help animals raised for food experience less stress and pain in the now. Thank you, Temple.
I'm guessing based on the cattles reaction while they waited around that it didn't bother them too much, I suspect it might have somewhat, but not enough to keep them bothered, as the seem to calm down pretty quickly despite the noise. I suspect the most calming facilities would be the concrete walled designs, but those are likely quite expensive to erect. This design is still a lot more efficient compared to old standard designs they had before Dr. Temple got involved.
Cannot get enough of Dr.Temple’s talks.
That's fantastic. I noticed with horses something similar. Quietly positioning yourself in the right place can be a powerful tool.
Brilliant woman. Humble and heart of gold.

No wasted words or information.
Temple thank you
That race is quiet a radical design, only someone with a mind like hers could come up with it
I love her so much 😘🥰
Legend!
Admiration for Dra Temple
Bless her soul
Why doesn’t the rattling metal sounds bother/scare them?

That's what I was thinking. It would bother me in that situation... !
@brighitfire Raised, named and eaten 👍
I'm about to join you
A good life, humane end, is sustainable
Both for man & beast
