Available Now: mercury-studio...
In 1974, award winning film maker Tony Palmer followed Rory Gallagher and his band on their tour of Ireland. The subsequent movie was released in cinemas to great critical acclaim and has gone on to be accepted as one of the great rock films. Now for the first time the film has been lovingly restored and remastered from the original footage and is being reissued on DVD and released for the first time on Blu-ray. There is a massive improvement in both sound and picture quality over the original DVD release and finally Gallagher fans can get to see the film as it was meant to be, capturing Rory, his music, the period and the place to perfection.

The second part of the solo should be declared world heritage! - he never played it again like this- like Alvin Lee played his solos for decades note for note the same which was boring with time- so Rory invented it on the spot. It is a great solo and it done on the spur of the moment. Only really great players can do that. Like Blackmore on Made in Japan which is outragous. Here in Germany we treated him like a King. There were 3 magic names here for us in the 70ies: Hendrix / Blackmore/ Gallagher.
Absolutely, unlike anything that Beyonce or Swift chick is familiar with.
lol yeah! But surely you mean the whole second solo, from 4:13
Criterion i) to represent a masterpiece of human creative genius - yes.
Authenticity - yes.
Integrity - yes.
My Rory's fauvorite solo so far. In fact, FB remembered me the Montreux 1975 aniversary and after watching the video I came here just to hear the solo. :)
ABSOLUTELY AGREED
R.Gallagher belongs to the golden season of hard Rock, unique, inimitable it deserves its place in Olympus with the greats of rock.R.I.P
Listen to the second guitar solo closely - you’ll hear Rory playing rhythm while soloing. Later he plays a little part while his guitar is out of phase.... Rory was something else !!!!!!
No gimmicks just pure music
In 74 I was 16. First money, first girlfriend, first moped. Bought this record, took it to every party, own it til today. 4:12 still brings me to my knees....Never forget you Rory!!
This guy does a mean copy of this, check him out, best on RUclips imo..... ruclips.net/video/Jpjezs3AlpA/видео.html
First album I bought against the grain
In 74 I was 17. Second girlfriend, second car, first house. 😂
Bought this album and played it over
and over .
I saw him in Rotterdam Holland.
He was awsome.🙏
But i was def for some time to!😁
The man was genius of the blues and soul. Irish tour live is a masterpiece.
Indeed sir!
Underrated!!! Not in my house, in my house he is landlord.
One of a rare breed of musicians that played for the sheer love of the music and for his fans. Never sold out to trends or fads, this man lived and breathed guitar. I was blessed to see him live in 1976 and 1983..life-defining moments..Sometimes music can be the most powerful all-consuming thing in the world..This video of Rory clearly demonstrates this..Thank you Rory Gallagher R.I.P.
@@pamackroyd1825 brilliant
That he was!
Spot on, mate. One of a kind he was.
First time I’ve seen this. He’s like your best friend who happens to play guitar like a god and he’s still just your best friend. Just fabulous solos in here. Gone too soon, never forgotten.
All the complexity of any guitar work anywhere and totally clean.
That takes talent.
It will never get any better than this. This man the gift!
No tricks, fancy costumes, light-shows, he just plugs in and plays......perfect. R.I.P. Rory.
Yes! So amazing how incredibly cool them three boys walk out on stage and make it happen!
And no pedals

If someone lived his music, it was Rory well. And this feeling will never die!
His music will never die.
Rory Gallagher should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
greetings from the great state of Texas I was little girl during this time. I'm the son forget the drummer all the genres that were in the span Gerry McAvoy and of course the the keyboardist Lue Martin why don't you guys vote him into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame I believe they have some kind of a ballad at the end of each year God bless you and yours love to see Ireland beautiful country looks like what a gorgeous band they were phenomenal Legends I don't understand why Rory Gallagher didn't have any children and got married he was drop-dead gorgeous
Why? Hrs not a good guitar player and not a good singer. . His lyrics are good for party's. .Rory was just mediocre😂 Hall of fame for Eric Clapton or Marc Knopfler. .
@@pauls.3014 I think he was above mediocre. He certainly wasn't as good as Gary Moore (best Irish guitarist). But he sold a lot of records, probably because it was a first time s blues guitarist came from Ireland.
@@rbagel55 agree he sold a lot of records but this don't made him not to a good musican. Lady Gaga sold a lot of records too😂
@@pauls.3014 ok that's true. But I think if you grew up in that era, you would probably listen to him too. Think about it, back in 74, rock music was still evolving. No Van Halen, no Dimebag Darrel or any super.shredder player. Frank Marino hasn't even been out. So you had Jimi Hendrix, Rick Derringer, Alvin Lee and a few others. Not many really good ones. See the music scene wasn't like it is nowadays where the market was flooded with hundreds of players. And back then there was no internet where you learn licks all day long on DIY videos. If you wanted to become really a great player, you had to be able to afford private lessons from a notable teacher. But even then they would teach you classical, or some shit like bebop jazz. I had no interest to play that complex shit, and there was certainly no money playing it. So you see, to be a really good rock player back in the 70's was fucking difficult beyond words. And when people heard Rory playing back then, they latched on to it, even though there will be far better players down the road Rock Guitar would have to evolve more. I hope this made sense
Rory died before I got born, but here I am listening to this masterpiece. 2024 greetings from Hellas. We don 't forget.
The best "unknown" guitarist of the last half-century. Rory was totally dialed in to the blues of which he brought originality and pure genuineness. To me, watching film of this recording represents a Holy Grail event!
Hahahhaha how could anyone post a 'dislike' on this?!
«Unknown» , probably , in your country and , maybe , for top tens or for sailing departments . Here in Greece , E V E R Y O N E about 50 y.o. or more know him . At the concert in Athens , about 40.000 were there . Rory , for ever and ever .
ON POINT!
@JJ Guitar Rory is Well Known In The US , I was Lucky Enough to Have seen Him in Royal Oak , Michigan 1979 . They Just Don't Play Him On the Radio Any More ...
@@Biker999s ive listened to his music from 50 years back
Rory gallagher was among the most phenomenal guitar players the world had ever seen 👏 😍
I love Rory!
Rory, undoubtedly one of the greatest, too humble to wear the crown.
Sorry that he left so soon.
greetings from the great state of Texas let's not forget the drummer Rod de'ath the bass player Gerry McAvoy and the keyboardist blue martin old gorgeous men they were in Geniuses this pain was phenomenal I was little girl in this time. From the United States they need to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame I don't understand why they're not very unbelievable nothing like this God bless you and
Wish they would have shown his fingers playing. Sounds good; classic film ♥️
McAvoy getting baked and willing to share at 0:38 ....love it....one of the best bassists ever!
Thank goodness he's still alive and presumably well.
Looks like an ordinary dog end to me.
Agreed. I still get tingles in my body when I hear this
To those who said this was Rory's best solo; I find it nigh on impossible to choose a "Best" from this extraordinary guitarist. I love 'em all.
I'm sad to say that from a recent experience the G-Man has all but been forgotten about in his native Cork.
Gather round for I've a sad tale to tell.
Just last summer I was visiting the famed coastal town of Cobh which was hosting a blues festival. I settled in to enjoy what were a superb band in all fairness in a cosy nook of the pub with a nice pint've Guinness. The show got underway and the band went through the usuals: Clapton, Hendrix, Vaughan.
It was coming up to half time...no sign of Rory. As the band took a break, the drummer walked past me on his way, I gestured to him and he leaned in and I said " Don't tell me your going to have a blues festival, in Cork and not play some Rory Gallagher..?" He looked at me a tad awkwardly and replied "I'll see what we're doing next".
So the second half gets underway and about 3-4 songs in, the drummer shouts to the lead guy "someone's requested Rory Gallagher" an awkward air of what felt like 'Who the f*ck is that' came over the room ( it looked to be a mixed crowd of locals and tourists ) and the band all of sudden seemed at a loss and began to act some what sheepish..?! They then what felt like a begrudging attitude kicked in to one of his catalogue ( I think it was messing with the kid ) and when over, the after effect felt like a relief to the band with small words exchanged between themselves of 'God, Old Rory ! that's taken me back".
The fact they had to be reminded to play one of their own greats, though, as all true Rory fans know all too well, one who although praised by more famous greats (Slash, Brian May etc.) has always remained ever elusive in the popular/ mainstream consciousness to this day. Never mind that just an hours drive away in the city centre of Cork there is the Rory Gallagher music library or Rory Gallagher place with it's own statue dedicated to the great man.
A sad moment that shows what the passing of time can do to memory, but one I'm not unfamiliar with, this is what we do with our greats in Ireland..bury them and be forgotten.
His music is immortal and will always be. And he will never be forgotten by those who are still listening to him
Most likely this is the best solo ever
Just incredible, The tattoo album probably my favorite of all time and Irish tour is that album live, one of the greatest artists of all time.
This man was a true legend, he never played the same solo. It just came out of his soul… pure genius 👍
A true legend

Rory blew the lid off the Auckland town hall. We were leaping around in the top aisle of the circle. Phenomenal player
We were down the bottom in Auckland Town hall, dancing on the seats :) We could feel you guys, just an amazing concert.
When music meant something... I cannot name ONE musician exceeds Gallagher. The spirit, the soul, the feeling...Whenever "I come back", this gets clearer and clearer.
This IS a master class of how to play blues guitar , every time i saw him it was just mind blowing, what a showman, there will never be another to match what he had, raw talent of master full guitar playing, miss him, He was simply the best. Rory you were the main man.
Said it before and i'll say it again he has never been bettered.
i heard this song a million times and i still loveit!!!
Tattoo'd lady, bearded baby, they're my family
When I was lonely, something told me where I could always be
Where I could wish for pennies, if we had any
You'd meet me down at the shooting gallery
Yes, I'm a fair ground baby, wonder what made me
Fall for the Pearly Queen
I spent my youth under canvas roof
As I roamed from town to town
I'm not fooling when I say I got no schoolin'
Never like the school bell sound
From the caravan, I hear the fairground band
Sounding good as they can be
You know I can't be found
If you look around, tomorrow we'll be gone by dawn, alright
Now hear it on the loud speaker say
The fire eater is a real fine sight to see
Yeah, he's a death cheater, some kind of central heater
Be sure to save a seat for me, hey
Let me tell you 'bout wicked Sadie
She's no baby, the law came and tried to close her sideshow down
But soon she had the, the cheering
The police chief wearing her garter for a crown
I spent my youth under canvas roof
As I roamed from town to town
Not fooling when I say I got no schoolin'
Never like the school bell sound
From the caravan, I hear the fairground band
Sounding good as they can be
You know I can't be found
If you look around, tomorrow we'll be gone by dawn, yeah, yeah
Tattoo'd lady, bearded baby, they're my family
When I was lonely, something told me where I could always be
Where I could wish for pennies, if we had any
You'd meet me down at the shooting gallery

Rory may be Irish but he didn’t feared to show his skills
All I can say is : Holy crap ! What a performance !
Damn you cameraman! His guitar, fretboard, his pickups, not his face!! Not for this solo! Argh!!
It's ok cameraman! He is so pretty!! :)
Learn the solo note for note and record yourself. I'll watch and like the video.
Same problem with Blackmore, Made in Japan, "Highway Star". Camera man focusing on Gillan doing his nodding hairy dog routine.
@@DokktorDeth I wish I could play the fast strumming parts from this and highway star. Then maybe I'd be complete.
Fucking shooting!! probably one of the best live solo guitars in the history and we didn't see his fingers!!!!
When I went to Ireland in 2010 I went to Temple Bar in Dublin and saw a replica of Rory's beat up strat on a wall high above a street named for him. Rory was a brilliant musician.
I always get choked up with tears every time I watch this. ❤
This is the peak of his playing
le plus grand guitariste de l'histoire. Dommage qu'il nous ait quittés si tôt. Vive l'Irlande et les Irlandais. Un algérien fan de rock et blues.
Saw Taste twice at Kirkcaldy YMCA in Scotland - small hall maybe hundred folks and stood right in front of Rory - pure magic with that Strat and AC30 and the other guys were red hot as well. All those great songs just one after another.
Great guitarist .. fantastic moment captured forever
Rod de'Ath was a fantastic drummer. R.i.p.
Awaysome
Clint Eastwood but with a guitar. He is still the best. Sometimes when a guy is unassuming it's because he knows.

Seen him 3 times fantastic
The Irish would be the best at everything and worldbeaters if only they didn't drink too much.
I never noticed ! But he and his guitar always make my day !
Rory turned down the Stones and Deep Purple. The man knew what he was doing; He knew he was too good to just take the backseat in a band.
My goosebumps have goosebumps listening to that closing guitar solo. Absolutely incredible.
Didn't have to rely on bells and mirrors. Just pure music.❤
Still miss him, all so many years later

Tremendous to be sure. I just wish the cameraman had had enough sense to show more of him playing instead of mostly just head shots.
This must have been some sort of collage. At 1:20, you can see the back of a Tele headstock, with a capo at the 3rd fret, but the rest of the video is of his Strat.
