A lot of people say "make something you love a career". I say make something you can tolerate your career and leave what you love as a hobby. Once you make something you love a career, you will ruin it and begin to hate it.

I was a self taught 3d artist. I spent ALL my free time creating animations and building neat things. Then I got a job doing it for a living. That lasted a few years. Now I don't do 3d for work or fun anymore. The closest I come is doing some CAD designs for 3d printing, or wood working. Might get into welding in the future...

My dad worked for IH as a general sales manager for just on 18 years in South Africa from the early 60's so he had a bunch of IH trucks from the 908, 908X, 1100 series as his company vehicles. And yes, I learned to drive in an IH 908X pickup truck and even drove an IH F210 D truck back in the day, I do remember the oil bath air cleaner was rubbish and vibrated off so the South African pickups were retro-fitted with with a Donaldson air cleaner with pre-cleaner for the dusty South African driving conditions. Your videos bring back a bunch of great memories in the IH's.

Best video yet Jared, couldn’t stop watching!
I too have a personal connection to Scouts. In high school my dad bought a rusted-out 80. We spent a couple years 4-wheeling all over Arizona and then we took the cancerous body off of it and put a Vega body on it. Almost identical wheelbase. We also swapped in a 345, which didn’t really like the tiny confines of the Vega engine compartment but the original 4-speed manual bolted right up to the V-8 and worked just fine. Good times!

The first truck I learned to drive was a 1964 (I think) IHC Pickup with a 4 cylinder. I was about 12 years old and I thought my day was the coolest guy in the world for letting me drive on the way to cut fire wood. Many years later I realized he wanted me to be able to go get help if a tree fell on him. I'd love to have a truck like that these days.

Add me to the list of people who grew up around IH trucks. The small farmer down the road used 8N Fords, Allis Chalmers PTO implements (including round balers and rakes from the 40s and 50s), and the milk they produced got hauled to the cheese factory in IH pickups. They were the only thing that could reliably take the weight. The son was a massive IH nut, and had a few Scouts (short and long wheelbase), a Travelall, and pickups out the wazoo. They used those old trucks right up through the 90s. I love seeing these trucks, and thanks so much for doing it. A very niche thing, IH. BTW, our school busses were IH for the most part, and stick. I always thought it cool they used the same shift knobs as a pickup or a Scout. LOL

No options, manual choke, oil bath air cleaner, no power anything, one sunvisor, no radio and split rims. Talk about basic, but still fun for a 15 year old to learn to drive.

My Dad owned a salvage yard and all of his trucks except for a lone dump truck was the only one that was not a binder. I learned how to drive in an L-190 pulling a 28 or 30 foot open top trailer that we hauled burned and crushed cars. We also had a Unit crane built in 1946 that is still running and crushing cars today. Same yard different family runs it now. We had one IHC that we stretched the wheel base to 300” . It had to do with paying a license fee to the state that was less than $50.00 to one that was over a $1,000 a year. The Binder was picked because the frame rails were ten or 12 inch. They were absolutely massive. Because of the weight it hauled they still needed to be plated. All were gas e;Hines and still handled the loads. The pickups had some of the same V8s.

3: the spare wheel location, with the nice embedding in the rear fender ( love it! )
    4: the 4WD
5: the leaf springs, front and rear ... yes, it is a truck ... back in the day, pick up trucks were work trucks !

The first truck I ever drove was my uncle's IH pickup ('73 1210, dark green with wide white stripe). We were clearing land for his shop and 14 year old me was the "shuttle driver." I'd drive the crew to where they were working at the time, then go back and forth all day with loads of wood to drop off at the splitter, come back with gas and snacks for the guys doing the logging, rinse and repeat 8 hours a day every weekend. I learned more about fixing spark timers, carbs, and slapdash repairs that summer than I ever realized until I was much older, running my own landscaping crew.
I helped sell that pickup, and his two scouts just a couple years ago right before he passed. I'd fucking love to get my hands on a Scout again.

hopefully he put a different fuel filter assembly than the original for the 7.3L IDI. The original fuel filter assemblies always went through the orings and leaked

I have my own grandfather story. Mine worked for Wisconsin Steel, which sold to International (and GM and Ford) and so could buy vehicles at employee prices. One of the vehicles he bought over the years was a Scout II, a '71 or '72. My dad looked at an IH Travelall in the 1980's as a tow vehicle, but didn't buy it. My vintage truck experience is a '71 Bronco I owned in the 1990's.

The 7.3 powerstroke was an international engine also, so was the 6.0 powerstroke and so was the 6.4 powerstroke.
