    Still pissed that this was never showed in the Detroit market. It would have been good for the kids afterschool to watch at that time. 1984 was a great year and I miss it more everyday.

    Seeing the backdrop design behind Bauman and the contestants reminds me of
    the TPIR pricing game "Cover Up".

      Cover Up is played for a car. This show's theme song would be used on The Price Is Right as a car cue.

    Yeah, why Peter Marshall didn't get the hosting duties for the "Squares" portion of the show boggles the mind (especially because "MG/HS" replaced "Fantasy" which Peter co-hosted with Leslie Uggams!)!

    Gene may have hated doing this, but he did act professional and didn't show disgust on camera. I'm sure after he had those disasterous 13 weeks on Break the Bank in 1985, he was wishing he were back on this show.

    If the show were on now I'd have peter Marshall hosting the Hollywood squares portion and Monty hall or Tom Kennedy hosting the march game portion

    I read 2 different stories that 1.Peter Marshall wasn't even approached about it,and 2.He didn't like the idea of combining the 2 games on top of altering some of the HS rules and wanted nothing to do with it

      Mark Goodson should've subscribed to the old adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

    BOY, WHO WRITES THIS JUNK? Thank you, Phyllis! (It was a dumb, dumb question.)
    And they should have let Leonard do more of his Ethel imitation. It might have saved a game heading for a crash and burn.

    I think I remember reading that in his Autobiography, he wouldn't of done if if he was offered as he felt the combination as well as how they did the Hollywood Squares portion would fail to the start.

    It would have gone a long way if Peter Marshall co-hosted with Gene Rayburn. Mark Goodson and Merrill Heatter would have done a similar crossover approach, but with Card Sharks and High Rollers being recorded in front of an audience likely in Las Vegas.

    • @PREGO1966
      @PREGO1966 9 лет назад +2

      bryce rushing Merrill had nothing to do with this series. And cross breeding Card Sharks and High Rollers would never work because of the way the main games were played "questions and action" in both. All there were in these 2 were questions of the stars and the players guessing what the star said in both.

    • @sararushing1990
      @sararushing1990 7 лет назад +3

      Yes, it could, if you were in Merrill's and you had it your way. But if Merrill had this show his way, he'd win. So my brother's accurate comment says if this show was a success, the two creators would do the same for Card Sharks and High Rollers, but throw in Dan Enright and you would wind up with the ultimate casino game show, "The Card Sharks/High Rollers with Joker's Wild Hour."

    If Match Game Hollywood Squares Hour was produced in the 70s, the guests would be Charles Nelson Reilly, Rose Marie, Scoey Mitchell, Brett Somers, Paul Lynde, Joan Rivers, Rich Little and Joyce Bulifant. bryce rushing Yes but that was not possible since both were separate identities at that time. And FYI, Merrill and Berrill I mean Bob had nothing to do with this series

    • @brycerushing4227
      @brycerushing4227 7 лет назад

      PREGO1966 , I know that, but if Merrill Heatter had this show his way, he would have Mark Goodson drop the $25 capture rule and add the secret square package. Also the rule stating you have to make a tic tac toe yourself would be a fair addition.

    This show was a pretty good idea, but i think the reasons it didn't last too long:
    1. Jon Bauman(bad game show host).
    2. Didn't keep the same rules and gameplay as the original "Hollywood Squares"
    3. Horrible timeslot(3:00pm) opposite "General Hospital" and "Guiding Light"
    They should've put this show on in the morning and somehow, someway, got Peter Marshall to host the "Squares" part. It would've lasted a little longer.

    i agree....the timing of the show, though, was bad...soap operas at this time were too popular..and going head to head against dedicated audiences from ABC and CBS soaps really put this game show on Strike 2 before it started...shouldve aired this show during the morning time (it was on at 2:30pm CST).....plus Jon Bauman was a lousy host.....

    Charles should have been where Richard was seated. That was always Charles' spot on the old show. I was 16 when this was on, loved the idea of combining the 2 shows, but hated how Squares was done. Hated too that sometimes the "stars" they had were not very well known. Phyllis Diller, awesome. Jon Bauman, great as Bowzer, as an emcee.....3 out of 10 ranking...

    • @PREGO1966
      @PREGO1966 9 лет назад +3

      Will McDee On this show different people sat in different seats every day. The exception was the "Charley Weaver" seat in the lower left that Jon had in the Match Game half and Gene in the Hollywood Squares half. For the simple reason, ease to get out of to change places which had to be done twice.

    • @paullarue2010
      @paullarue2010 8 лет назад +2

      +PREGO1966 Jon Bauman hosted the "Hollywood Squares" portion, of the "Match Game - Hollywood Squares Hour".

    • @PREGO1966
      @PREGO1966 7 лет назад +3

      I know that, Paul. I said the seat Jon occupied during the Match Game half was the lower left. Which during Classic Squares was occupied by either Charley Weaver or George Gobel. Hence it was known on THAT series as the "Charley Weaver Seat". I was only trying to explain to Will that the seating on THIS show was random except for that seat, so Jon and Gene could change places easily

  • @aliciachea81

    They should redo this show. Here's my spiel: It's time for the Match Game Hollywood Squares Hour with: From "NCIS", David McCallum, Alison Haislip, from "Brooklyn Nine-Nine", Terry Crews, Rachael Ray, WWE Diva Tamina and the stars of the Match Game Hollywood Squares Hour, George Gray and Jonathan Mangum! And now, it's time for more of the Match Game Hollywood Squares Hour with Bill Maher, from "Game of Thrones" Emilia Clarke, Colin Mochrie, and taking over, the star of Hollywood Squares, Jonathan Mangum!

    • @ericm242910

    • @danalong1237

      Well, how about this: It's time for The Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour with from Dancing With the Stars, Bruno Tonioli... from Mom, Anna Faris... from Modern Family, Ty Burrell... from K.C. Undercover, Zendaya... from NCIS, Rocky Carroll... and the stars of The Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour: Will Ferrell and David DeLuise!
      For the Hollywood Squares portion: And now it's time for more of The Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour with from Nashville, Charles Esten... from Fifth Harmony, Normani Kordei... from Food Network, Duff Goldman... and taking over, the star of The Hollywood Squares: David DeLuise!
      For the Super Match portion: And now, here to play the Super Match is Will Ferrell!
