I once had a job that involved bending over to empty bins full of paper into a large hand truck. I noticed that I was frequently readjusting my pants. While buying cloths I spotted suspenders on sale and gave them a try. Not only were they more comfortable than a belt, they improved my productivity. Less time pulling up my pants gave me more time to do the job! Something so simple can make such a big difference.
I have been using the Perry suspenders (belt clip) for a few years now. When I started, I just wore them at work. At work, I am constantly bending down, stooping and lifting items from floor level and I don't have to keep pulling my pants up while using suspenders. I wear under shirts and wear the suspenders under my top shirt and you can't even tell I am wearing them half the time. I actually started wearing my suspenders while off work when I conceal carry. It helps to hold up my holster and mag pouch a little better then just a belt. Keeps everything where I want it when doing activities. Anything a belt can do, suspenders and a belt can do better.
Perry HOLD UPS are the best!
Perry Suspenders & Hickers Suspenders are the best in my opinion
I still have a pair of Levi's suspenders that my Grandpa used to wear, and yes they're clip suspenders, they're definitely ancient and I've been wearing them for a while now and I've got no complaints. I got myself my own new pair so I didn't have to worry so much about damaging the older pair as much, Duckies clip suspenders, and they work perfectly as well for me.
So helpful tip, you can use a belt with button suspenders. Put the bachelor buttons backwards so that the suspenders hook to the buttons inside your pants
Hey thanks for the upload, i was just looking into getting a pair of suspenders to use with my belt because my new ccw is on the heavier side and was having a hard time keeping my pants up!
I figured no big deal, suspenders are suspenders. Boy was i confused when i saw all tge different types! Thanks again, you really cleared it up for me.
Jake,
Thanks so much! I've been researching myself for a while. I have a 32" waist, but still have a horrible time with belts! By the end of the day, my hips are soooooo sore from rubbing all day. I even get ingrown hairs from this as well. Bibs give me great relief, but I would like to try suspenders, so I dont have to wear bibs around everywhere. Thanks again! Great review!
Just started to look around for suspenders myself, didn't realize that there are different types, thanks for schooling, Thank You Sir.
thanks man I been struggling for years trying to keep my pants up why didn't I think of suspenders I need for work I'm a big guy thanks
it is life changing! good luck, brother.
Same here
Very Informative. Thank you for this video. Love the intro too. Putting logs into the fire while explaining the episode. Reminds me of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. LoL!
Nice summary. I'm a huge fan of Perry suspenders. I've got big gut and keeping my pants up has always been a problem. I got the Perrys originally for concealed carry. I like them so much, I wear them all the time, whether I am carrying or not. They are a lot more comfortable for me as. I don't have to cinch my belt down as tight. Also, the Perry's are very easy to take on and off.
I enjoyed the sound effects, Great video!
Thanks for all the info. I ordered myself some yesterday off your recommendations. I really like my new Dickies suspenders. I hope your doing well. Happy Holidays!
Thanks, Big Guy, I did order the Perry belt suspenders and I really like the quality of the product. I too am a big guy who's pants fell down a lot. I love my suspenders, but I had the clip on before and often had problems with them coming undone. I wear a uniform at my part time job and was constantly going to the bathroom and tucking my shirt in because my pants were slipping down.
Super cool. Valuable info, well presented. Liked and subscribed.
Using info to purchase next set.
Currently using carhartts with alligator clips.
Have only had a few issues with the clips, but overall pretty reliable.
Biggest problem is elastic wearing out after 3 years of nearly constant wear.
WOW !! DIDNT KNOW ABOUT THE CLIP ON BELT SUSPENDER THANKS FOR THE INFO
Thank you for your time and God Bless you for making the video. I love wearing Suspenders and a belt for my Leatherman and Knipex Pouch tools and a flashlight. 🙏🏼
Great video. Very educational, thorough, and well presented. Thank you so much!
Sir, you are awesome. I, too, am a large man and am having to deal with my pants falling/shirt coming un-tucked. Your video is informative and very helpful. Thanks alot.
Thank you! Just bought my first pair of suspenders and am so excited to try them out. Went with the Perry belt clip style. Looked for the X back but only saw the Y, so hopefully they are ok. Much appreciated.
Thanks for the heart. I did end up getting those suspenders and they are working great. The belt clips are easy to use. And I'm getting used to the look.
Best suspenders review ever! Thanks for sharing!
I'm gonna try them out and see if it's something I can get into. Was really wondering about the buttons, so I'm glad you spoke a little on that, I thought certain pants had to be purchased 😂
Amazing video. I’ve never heard of those dog leash type of suspenders. Thanks for the video!
Good info and good production and editing LJ....just getting into suspenders as as an option and your vid helped a lot...
Thanks for the video. I didn’t realize there were so many different types of Suspenders. I have been wearing suspenders since 1993. I did commercial electrical work for 12 years I used a 2 pouch ( L&R) right side ,tools -left side connectors /couplings , wire nuts Ect. Both pouches weighed 70 to 85 pounds depending on the job. I used a padded belt system and that kept working its way down,. I worked with a carpenter many years ago who wore suspenders and got the idea to try them. I got some AWP’s from Lowes, they were clip on.
Now I’m old and even after several back surgeries I still can’t wear a belt.
I have a very heavy duty pair of pants ( close to turnout gear that are a couple sizes too big so I can throw them on over whatever I’m wearing to weld, grind Ect. I keep a pair of clip on suspenders on them and hanging in the shop. I have only 2 problems
1) they come in clipped ?rear) sometimes when I get I. The truck
2) if your wearing a jacket or shirt and have to ( see a man about a dog, 💩) then that has to come off.
I never thought about the C/C thing but that brings up the shirt removal issue.
I am also wondering how the batchlor buttons are on truck seats. If anyone has any information, I would appreciate any tips.
Gotta say, i got a pair from walmart during this quarantine, and it was the clip on style. They have not let me down. 270lbs and losing weight but during quarantine i lost my job and gained 60 lbs. My belt started to hurt my belly. Overall walmart clip ons worked well (i wear Jeans ONLY)
I've come to love the 'clip to your beltloop' side-clip (trucker) suspenders, and have even mod'd Duluth clip-on trucker suspenders to the snap-clips/clasps that clip right on my belt. The original Duluth clips tear up my pants. I like the leather suspenders, but the single point on the back gives me a wedgie - unacceptable. The traditional suspenders that use buttons work well, but the buttons can rip out, especially if you add them later (bachelor buttons). The clasps combined with side-clip suspenders are my current favorite. A combo of leather with a little very strong/stiff elastic might be ideal.
I have worn x-back Carhartt clip suspenders for over one year now. They have never come unclipped and the teeth have not moved resulting in damage to the waistline fabric. I have been very happy with their performance and they are very comfortable wearing. I do also wear a belt so button suspenders are a no-go for me. I fell & process trees including arboring, build buildings including foundation, climb in & out of heavy equipment, mill lumber, work on vehicles, etc. so they get lots of use. I too started with a clip on pair from Menards years ago but stopped wearing them because they would unclip at times and always slid up the waistband damaging the fabric.
RE: Perry-like suspenders: The clips will often fall off the belt when pants are removed. I applied heat to the clips using a heat gun then made a tighter fit by bending the tangs inward on each clip.
Great video! I wear suspenders a lot. Not because I'm a big guy but because I wear a concealed firearm all day, everyday. Also I am over 50 so my butt has gone flat like most men. So my pants just won't stay up unless I cinch my belt very tight. Which presses on my spin contributing to back issues. Anyway, adding a 2lb firearm on the hip doesn't help matters in keeping my pants up. I started and still use Clip suspenders, and I clip them to the belt, not the pants. They work very well. The clips do scar the belt, so if you like to wear "pretty" belts then this won't work so well. I have the belt clip style but haven't tried them much. I will tanks to this video. This video also helped me decide not to wear button style suspenders because I wear a belt and I don't want the buttons digging into my hips. Thank you for your review!!🙂
Thanks for your very helpful video. Wishing you all the best!
I've had many pair of Perry belt clip style. The plastic adjustment buckle slips ALL THE TIME! You'll be tightening all day.
The best I feel are the buttoned ones as they are more durability unlike the clip that often gets loose over time.
I think the best suspenders are the ones that have steel loops that clip onto your belt loops, buttons fail to fast. Suspenders are making a huge comeback, even Wal mart is carrying them now.
I use the alligator clip suspenders from Walmart in the work pants isle for carpentry projects in my yard. But I use my tool belt over my waistline too. I havent had them pop open but maybe I'm just getting lucky. I use the normal clip x back style on my dress pants since the cloth parts are more flexible and stretch easier. I liked the video!
Thanks for making this video LumberJake. I'm about your size (6'3" ~285 lbs) and been trying to decide if I should try button-style suspenders. Clip-ons are okay, but they just aren't as reliable as a belt. You bend over to tie a shoelace or pick up something and BAM! A strap comes loose and slaps somebody's head off. You convinced me: I'm gonna try the button-on style.
Hey Johnny, glad this was of some help to you. Once you get your button suspenders check out my other video about attaching suspender buttons to your pants.
I found a good selection of the various suspenders at Walmart, including a line made by Dickies of belt-hook style which I have liked except for that it tears up my belts. You can have any color that you want as long as it is black.
I concur that clip-style presents many of the problems mentioned. Button styles avert those problems and most other styles can be converted after obtaining the harness parts.
Your sound efx drove me nuts!!
thanks for the Feedback
Thanks buddy tried the clips but don't hold got one set for buttons but never knew about the belt clips will have to find out if I can get them in the UK very informative video have subscribed many thanks.
Thanks for the video man it was really helpful
Great video! Thanks for making this!!
Duluth Trading Post has some very good clip on. I’ve been wearing mine for two months and no problems.
I am a big guy and I set chokers for a living logging industry I feel the best are ex back button suspenders but I also have the belt loop kind with the dog leash snap does work pretty good to
Great video with a lot of useful information....thank you!
This guy is awesome. Good job buddy.
You have been very very helpful.
Thank you
Thanks for doing this very informative video!
Great video review. You know what you are talking about. Very helpful 🙂 thank you
thanks for posting! ordering welch because I didn't find baileys on amazon
Thanks a lot for this video it has helped me a lot
I prefer Perry suspenders over all others, even when doing manual labor.
Thanks for that. I’m finally getting around to this after pulling up my pants umpteen times a day. Aaasrgh!! I’m going for the Perry’s first and see how it goes.
I have Welch suspenders, both button and clip. They are very durable and all of have had regular use for almost 15 years at home and at work. Welch clip ons work great for me, but I do prefer button on. Both are made in Oregon, usa and are lumber jack approved.
Thanks for the review and the information..Very helpful.
A fantastic and informative video thanks for sharing!
I have the trigger snap ones the best suspender I’ve ever put on 10 years and running. I still have them no issues made an Oregon USA.
Thanks for the info and telling us the American brands.
very informative. One of very few on youtube. thank you very much.
you're welcome. I'm happy you found it informative
The best clip suspenders surprisingly are called NO-BUZZ, they are made for airport/security personnel that have to move through metal detectors all day. The plastic clips never loose their grip, they wont tear your clothing or scratch you. Very durable and long lasting, highly recommend!
I second this. The standard x style are great. Very comfortable, easily hidden under a shirt (though you can't tuck in). Only thing is that they are not that durable. You'll be lucky if you get much more than a year of use if you wear often. The material that makes them comfortable makes them wear out quicker. Still, I keep buying them. Haven't found anything better.
I'm a big guy and carry a lot of stuff in my pockets and the no-buzz suspenders wouldn't stay clipped on. Just not strong enough.
I had a Naturopathic Doctor friend who has since passed away. But, she recommended suspenders with loose fitting pants rather than belts. She said belts tend to cut off the circulation and are one cause of the gut overhang.
Are used to wear the German clip on suspenders when I was in the mennonite clan they seem to hold up pretty good. Belts were prohibited they looked at them as a fashion statement 😂 thanks for the video I'm in a subscriber 👍
I have 2 pair if perry suspenders. I wear them almost every day. Work days and weekends when I'm off
Thanks a lot. Very helpful.
great and very informative vid. Thank you it will help.
This video was helpful. Thanks!
Thank you
Yeah so just bought some combat suspenders the are pretty good
Awesome video, very informative.
Very useful information. Thank you!
Well put. Great stuff.
not what i was locking for (was looking up classic sock garters vs clip sock garters) but very enjoyable never the less, i had always wondered if there was a better alternative to clips for suspenders, my grandfather has no issues with clips but i can never get mine to stay for more then 40 minutes
thanks, buddy. very helpful.
Been using Batchelor button suspenders for a while and my frigging underwear fall down in my pants. Sooooo I use the clip ones and clip my underwear and pants to the clip. Keeps everything up and tight
I am ancient enough that I actually wore little clip on suspenders until I was nine or so. I actually like the look of suspenders but later in life I forgot them because of those useless dang clips. I am wearing suspenders again since I found some that attach to your belt loops rather than using a spring clip. These attach to belt loops directly and do not leg go with a bit of stress on them. I just learned of bachelor buttons from one of your other videos and am going to look for some of those today.
I am retired and no longer need load bearing suspenders but now I am as old as my grandfather was when I last saw him and now , according to my sister, I dress like him, including the hats.
Those trigger snap suspenders that attach to the belt loops are what I am wearing now. Currently the only kind I have because I did not know about bachelor buttons.
Very informative vid my guy. Thanks
Thanks for the info.
Thanks man, this helps
Thanks man!
Great video buddy!
Good tips I was going to go with the button suspenders (mostly for work) but I still would like the option for a belt for other occasions so the clip suspenders are probably my best bet
If you attach the button so that it's on the inside of the waist instead of the outside, you can still wear a belt with those pants. Works best with smaller profile buttons or sewn-in buttons so they don't rub against your skin uncomfortably.
thank you for the info.
Very Helpfull thank you
Great video!
Thank you.
Great video. Thanks
Awesome shirt !!
Thanks for info!
Been wearing suspenders for few weeks now,I don't like belts around me,they come undone hurt my stomach, girls seem to like them on me,got the one strap to two in front with clip, wear them with sweat pants too, nice video, saw guy at work with but hanging out a pair I had extra,he said he likes his but hanging out,no class
I like my Duluth Trading Company clip suspenders. Not to downplay the other types, but these work for me.
Hold-Up clip suspenders are fantastic, the clips have a patented design with a pin to stay on and they're made in the USA.
Edit: Looks like lots of people agree in the comments! lol
Hey Jake.. I like this video . It helped me pick suspenders.
Reckon what pocket knife do u carry ?
The best type I use is the trigger snap suspenders. Their connection is much like a dog leash end tip around your belt loop. NEVER EVER have they EVER come undone on me. They truly are the way to go. Clip ons I use with sweat pants. I don't even bother using the other ones due to the dominant nature of the trigger snap suspenders. Nice vid, brother.
Do the snaps damage the belt loops at all?
@@hewhodoes8073 They can over time I'm sure but I've never had a problem with mine, and to be honest I prefer the snaps ones. That's just one man's opinion though, brother.
More videos Jake!
Great job Lumber Jake! I'd be interested in your opinion of leather suspenders vs. the stretch fabric type.
Hi Tom, I don't have any leather only suspenders, but I do have combination, with the front being leather and the back (single) being stretch. Here are my thoughts: the obvious - leather doesn't stretch. So if you buy leather only, they would need to be really well fitted for them to work well. Even my combination suspenders tend to ride high on the butt and lift the back of the pants more than the front - which again, comes back to the fact that leather doesn't stretch. On the flip side, the leather suspender looks great - you can wear them anywhere. In the end, it all comes to your application. Just like a tool, you probably need more than one type to match the job you're doing. Hope this helps
Great vid. Thank you for putting it out therwe. Looking to start wearing them myself. My belt isn't cutting it anymore now that I'm in my mid forties.
Give undergarment suspenders a try. I don't tuck my shirts in. They're clips, airport friendly, and lightweight. They're designed to go under your shirt up against your skin.
Great information, thanks
I hope it helped. Thanks for the feedback
First pair I bought are the belt clip style, and while I like them(especially when wearing my holstered revolver) the main reason I wanted suspenders is because I've got to where I hate wearing a belt. They were ten dollars at rural king and can be worn with any pants. I own a few pair of loggers pants that I do my chores, camping, firewood fetching and such in that have the buttons for suspenders so I'm ordering the logger/work suspenders from bailey's. Hoping I like them better than the belt clip ones, lol.
Great video and very informative-thank you friend 👍👍
My clip-ons would sometimes slip off my belt. I tightened the clips by using a heat gun to gradually soften the plastic a bit. At that point I bent and held the flexible side of the clips slightly inward and then let the plastic cool.
Sometimes when your belt is not tight enough they do slip off, but otherwise, I have no issues. Good tip though
Should try the Perry belt clip type that only attach on each side and not in front or back. I like mine. Similar to a chest rig for your pistol.
