    I have never heard of these bachelor buttons. I was confused by the name until I realised how easy they are to use, even if you can't sew buttons on your trousers.
    I have always used the kind of suspenders with the brass hooks that you attach to belt loops. This will give me a lot more colours. Thanks

    Nice, I'll have to see about doing this. I'm not exactly light in the middle, but I'm not super heavy either...but I've always found belts uncomfortable, doesn't help that I'm trying to lose weight and as I lose it...I have to take belts up tighter and tighter. I got a 2 fairly good pair of clip on suspenders that have worked for a good while now but it DOES get annoying when they come undone sometimes when I get in and out of the car. Other than that they have worked for me fairly well, both are Y back. I'll have to get some buttons and a pair of X back suspenders before winter hits. I live around a good bit of woods and it's not uncommon during winter for old limbs to fall due to a light icing....if my state gets snow (rare as that can be) then I'm out and about in the yard moving dead fallen branches and need something that won't come undone.

    If you're like me and just ended up bending most of your tacks, you can use a large pair of pliers and squeeze them on!

    • @johnorenick9026
      @johnorenick9026 2 года назад

      I've been squeezing them on with channel locks, and sometimes it crushes the face of the button enough that it pulls off the base. I thought there might be a pliers with a concave face, made just to install "bachelor" buttons, but I haven't found one yet. I'll bet I can spin a button with sandpaper glued to it, in a drill motor, to cut a hollow in the top of a slab of wood, like what you do but even less chance of crushing a button. Thanks for the idea!

    I like suspender buttons, especially on wool winter trousers. I also like to carry keys on my belt, a leatherman tool, and some times a leather made I-Phone carrier and a separate bill fold belt holder. Using the belt of course to hold all these items, I find suspenders allow one to avoid tightening the belt too tight and incomfortable. Often with jackets with large carrying capability one can avoid a belt altogether. I always have suspender buttons put on all my trousers. I wish today that trousers to include jeans, all came with suspender buttons. I do not like the clip ons. They dig into one's back often and for me are always coming loose, except for the Filson Suspenders clip ons. So I simply have suspender buttons put on all trousers.

  • @doubleganger2
    @doubleganger2 4 года назад

    I've had reallly bad luck with those. eventually the stud works its way through the fabric leaving a hole. I put a small washer between the stud and the fabric to keep that from happening but even then occasionally the stud will pull out of the button. Sew on buttons are way better.

  • @geezlepuss7863
    @geezlepuss7863 2 года назад

    Why do you prefer the button head on outside? Are they uncomfy if you put the head inside & wear the strap inside? I will check to see if there are plastic "bachelor buttons" which might be more comfy. Or perhaps sewing on buttons would be more comfortable.

    • @LumberJake
      @LumberJake  2 года назад

      For slacks, and other "nicer" pants, inside is preferred because you could use plastic buttons as there is not that much strain on them. But for work pants, you need brass or metal bachelor buttons, because unlike thread, the rivet holds much better. And riveted bachelor buttons would be supper uncomfortable on the inside of the seam

  • @NameRequiredSoHere
    @NameRequiredSoHere 7 лет назад +2

    Very helpful. As Vince commented below, I wish more men would wear them-- for me, much more practical than belts. But you wear them and you get funny looks. "What are you? A lumber jack?.... Michael Douglas in Wall Street>" No I'm a guy whose pants fall down when I wear a belt. Now shaddup.

    • @doubleganger2

      sew the buttons on the inside of your waistband. Your suspenders will look better and the buttons won't show if you wear a belt. Avoid the logger buttons as they suck.

  • @dennisaudet5941
    @dennisaudet5941 4 года назад

    Jake, I have a question. I carry a legally concealed sidearm with an inside the waistband holster. I need to use the belt to support the weight of the sidearm. . In addition, I like to use suspenders to help support the weight added by the sidearm and allowing a slightly looser fit on the belt - more comfort. I am currently using Y-shaped leather suspenders with trigger snap (dog-leash) attachments. If I change to X-shaped suspenders with bachelor buttons added to my jeans, will I still be able to use my 1-1/2 wide 3/16 inch thick gun belt over the buttons? Will that work?

    • @LumberJake
      @LumberJake  4 года назад

      Hi Dennis, I don't think that would work very well. I'm sure you can "make" it work but it would be uncomfortable for you and your belt would get damaged quickly. I also use Y trigger snap when I carry...I found that to be the best solution.
