  • Considering nonprofit sabbatical leave? Here's my experience. #nonprofits #burnout #sabbatical
Preventing burnout is not just ideal, it’s a must-have for nonprofit jobs. Nonprofit leaders are notorious for working intensely and overcoming big challenges while trying to help as many as we can, which puts us at greater risk of burnout. But a sabbatical, when feasible, can help people in nonprofit jobs rest, recover, and re-energize for the work ahead.
In this video I share a little bit more about my own experience planning a nonprofit sabbatical and share some steps and tips for you to plan your own nonprofit sabbatical leave.

Thank you Amber! Great video. My husband and I experienced that and were forced to take time off. Only we didn’t have a back up team. Yet we really needed it. Glad you are passing on that Wisdom to the Community👍🏼

It's really hard! So important to figure out how to take time for yourself. :)

Amazing video. It reminds me of this concept I learned a while back of always leaving fuel in the tank. It's so easy for us to get go gung ho, all out, focusing on nothing but accomplishing the goal, that we forget to take care of ourselves and can unfortunately burn ourselves out. Sabbaticals are absolutely necessary. We need to take breaks, disconnect, and remember the original intent of our mission/cause.

How often do people normally go on a sabbatical?

It can vary by organization; several policies I've seen say a sabbatical can be granted every 5 or 7 years.
