    Had a chance to demo one of these at Ignition and this thing is the most amazing climbing beast I've ever ridden. I rode up to the summit on boost and beat some of my mates who got there on shuttles 😮. While it hoovers everything in its path downhill, I didn't enjoy it as much as my rise and there's no disguising the fact that you're on a full powered ebike which is harder to pop off ledgers and pump through rollers. However it may just have been that my body was completely shot after 3 days solid riding. I would be curious to know if the Bosch sx motor has the same feeling uphill as the cx as in that case a rise with that motor would be absolutely perfect

      That's great feedback Sandy, and cool you got the chance to demo one at Ignition Festival!
      Agreed on the SX motor - one of those in the Rise would be pretty sweet! I'm intrigued to see where Orbea goes with its e-MTB range, as I see it's been talking up its relationship with Shimano and developing new motors for e-Enduro racing; experience.orbea.com/en/oolab-partnering-shimano

      @FlowMountainBikeRUclips thanks Wil enjoyed the content on the link. If you are e-enduro racing and hitting trials type terrain on the way up then the reduced weight and natural feel of the rise would make it ideal for balancing power with control. However, for mere mortals like myself heading up a combination of green/blue singletrack, ski runs & rocky fireroads the Bosch cx felt far more powerful and purposeful than the shimano rs or even the non detuned ep8 as several in our crew were demo'ing Merida emtbs and those riding Bosch cx smoked them up to the Eagle chairlift at Falls by several minutes

      @FlowMountainBikeYouTube  10 месяцев назад

      Unfortunately we didn't quite have enough time with our test bike to get the standardised range test in - sorry mate! Given the Orbea has the same Bosch motor and battery as the Scott Patron I tested last year, I'd expect the range to be quite similar, which ended up being 2,079m climbing on the Patron. [Wil]

    Weight of a bag of cement. It is necessary to make a separate test for electric bicycles. The circle with logs was trampled upon, so that they would drag him over the logs three or four times in a two-kilometer circle. It will be fun.

      @@FlowMountainBikeRUclipshey Will, did it actually look brown? I got a video messaged to me and couldn’t quite decide? I thought it was meant to be a clear coat over carbon with that fleck so was hoping it was a classy finish! Great review, I think the 29er all round is a great option for this bike with the stay length. As a 90kg rider would you always suggest full power?

  • @sandycarmichael31

    Great review Wil as always. Seems like Orbea with the Wild has taken the same approach as the Rallon and produced an electrified race-focussed bike that needs to be pushed hard to get the most out of it. Did you find the 150mm dropper on the medium on the short side? Given the relatively short seat tube length seems like 170mm of drop would be more appropriate given the intentioned use remit of the bike. I see Orbea has released a "steep and deep" policy on recently updated Occam so i wonder if the ability to run 200mm+ droppers across sizes filters across to their emtb stable? Value isn't great but it never is with Orbeas, until you wait for clearance sale ahead of next gen release, then you snap up a relative bargain in Orbea terms (well that's what I did anyway 😊)

    • @dtolios
      @dtolios 11 месяцев назад +1

      Many people over-shoot their bike sizing and I feel like the base spec droppers on too many bikes cater to those...e.g. riders on the shorter end of the spectrum could have issues riding a 170 dropper even @ full incertion depth.

    • @sandycarmichael31
      @sandycarmichael31 11 месяцев назад

      @dtolios I hear you, guess that's why brands like Merida stock adjustable long stroke droppers, even if there are issues with the execution and reliability of those dropper posts. I own an orbea rise which I upsized to large (normally ride a medium) but somewhat regret as the long 457mm seat tube limits the clearance and length of the dropper I can run. Hence wished the steep and deep applied to older Orbea models

    • @FlowMountainBikeYouTube
      @FlowMountainBikeYouTube  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks Sandy! I would have personally preferred a 170mm dropper, as I've gotten quite used to that length on a trail/enduro bike. There would likely be just enough room to squeeze one in, and as you say, the Steep 'n Deep seat tube is designed to accommodate the extra insertion depth.
      I didn't have any specific issues with the stock 150mm dropper, though I'm fairly adaptive when it comes to switching between various test bikes. I was more concerned with a few tyre-buzz moments on the arse from that big 29in rear wheel :-) I'm surprised not to see any provision for a mullet setup built into the Wild, particularly for the Small & Medium sizes.
      [Wil]

    • @sandycarmichael31
      @sandycarmichael31 10 месяцев назад

      @FlowMountainBikeRUclips yeah riding the steep stuff at Mystic would definitely create more than a few nervous arse to tyre moments. Given the similarities between the Wild and the Rallon you'd think that the mullet set up available on the Rallon would eventually filter across to the Wild. I'm looking to upgrade my stock Orbea 150mm dropper on my rise to a 160-170mm dropper to give me some more clearance and create less nuts to saddle moments with my ergon emtb saddle with upwards curving tail

      @msjj000 9 месяцев назад

      @@sandycarmichael31 I kinda feel the short stays give you the best of both worlds on the Wild, making it nimble enough and providing a larger contact patch with the 29 rear.

      @@d.k.4882 I went for the levo in the end. It's a fantastic bike though I have made a couple of upgrades to brakes & fork.
      I'm not a huge fan of carbon bikes in general which is why I went alloy, (also cheaper than carbon) It came down to a couple of reasons. At the time I was buying there wasn't any orbea dealers close enough to me. The closest one actually sgipped selling them due to warranty issues. The headset cable routing is a huge no no for me, it's horrible. I was wanting a more playful bike as the weight of ebikes makes there inherently more stable + I'm not exactly a racer.
      The geo of the orbea was just a little longer than I prefer.
      Although the bosch is prob the best motor out there the Specialized warranty is fantastic & I have multiple dealers close to me.
      The orbea is a stunning bike though.
