Haha you're welcome! Honestly, these little 5ish min videos are so fast and easy to shoot and edit. The 10-15 minute ones are exponentially longer to shoot an edit, it's insane. 5 minute video is maybe 10-15 minutes of raw footage, takes about 30ish min to edit. A 15 minute video is like an hour of raw footage, takes 3-4 hours to edit (I have a short attention span haha). I can also shoot a bunch of short ones in one sitting haha. It's a win win!

I've always liked the looks and play ability of those Euro Spector basses but I could never get past the EMG active pickups, I'm just not a fan of the EMG active pickup sound, so I'm glad to see them using Aguilar pickups. Looking forward to your full review!

Great sounding bass!! Love the Spector sound which amazingly shines through regardless of the electronics. I agree that the pickup placement affects the tone.
Spector makes a good Bass, I've had 5 of them. Some earlier models had a solid maple body that was really heavy but they sounded great. I had a Zebra wood Euro bolt on and a Euro neckthrough....
@@LowEndLobster I actually had two Rebops, the other was a trans black flamed maple. So I have had several but I never like two volume controls but the necks were good as well as I can remember. I still have a new tone pump come to think about it! They were all 5 string, I quit playing 4's in the mid 80's
You are right, it is a gorgeous bass! Sounds were good too. Think I would like an opportunity to sit down with one of these. Looking forward to the long review. (A question I always have at forefront of mind when approaching a new guitar or bass, "Is it neck heavy?" That comes from >20 years hand problems.)

Lobster, I could really use some help. I love my euro 4 string tobacco burst, however, I feel the Aguilar PJ pickups and OBP-2 preamp, always come across as….. dark, heavy, and somewhat over-driven, when I’m trying to play clean, and I’m looking for clean, clear, bright, and with more flexibility. Can you help with any recommendations, different pickups/pre-amp, etc.

What's your take on Sadowsky basses? I haven't played a real warwick in over 10 years, used to have a 4 string thumb which was an interesting instrument to say the least. My warwick was bubinga and ovankol (neck thru), and I liked it a lot. Was not a fan of the ones with wenge necks as I don't like the porous feel. I dig Sadowsky basses, very well made and incredible attention to detail. I have one of their new chinese warwick/sadowsky things coming from Thomann soon :). Salutations comrades! ;P

This bass cost 2000€ and more, should I really open the electronic compartment unscrewing screws form wood? Five times and the threading is gone.... Really should I do this?
It sounds good but I couldn’t take all that hum. I was steered away by an entire group of Spector enthusiasts on this thing. I even thought about getting emgs and swapping the preamp but why spend that much and then another $300...might as well get a neck through euro then. Idk...I’m sure it’s great playing and the top is gorgeous, but everyone fussed about the noise and seems they were right. Glad you like it though! You can tell how pumped you are haha
I think the hum is a grounding issue. I investigated it more today, going to have to do some minor surgery to get this corrected. Either a shitty bridge ground or jack ground. Should have been caught by their QC! Thanks for watching :)
I had this experience when I laid hands on one in December and I have to agree about the noisy hum on that particular bass. It was definitely something I had to work around with even for the studio session but damn those Aguilars sounded sweet!!

@@LowEndLobster I have a Spector legend and like it a lot, but I replaced the electronics with 'glockenklang' 2 band active/passive hw. Especially the passive mode really adds something to the sound of my Spector!! I would be interested in a video where you review replacement electronics for basses.
There's enough neck pocket that I think I could literally unbolt the neck, cram a billy sheehan style pickup onto it, and rebolt it...I'd need a connector setup for that, though, and every connector is not only insertion loss and transmission line discontinuity, they also corrode and crackles...lol I just made an argument for onboard wireless systems, but then you could literally move everything where ever you wanted at a moments notice and never need to grab a soldering iron...
I'm torn between purchasing the new 5 string Euro, or the 5 string Dingwall NG3. The tone of the Spector is amazing. Maybe one day ill have both. Time to start playing the lottery.
@@LowEndLobster the Spector seems to be slightly more versatile, but I've never had the opportunity to try out a Dingwall through my amp. Both are absolutely gorgeous when it comes to fit and finish in my opinion.

Hrm.... that's a great question. Construction wise, the Spector I think. I like the EHB1000 series and materials more than the 1500 series with the roasted maple neck, and the Spector has that. Electronics wise, the Ibanez will have more flexibility and IMO be a bit more well rounded. Hope that helps ;P

You know, you'd think it would... but a well constructed two band preamp IMO can be better than a regular 3 band. The OBP2 (I think that's what it is) is a very nice preamp. The old school EB 2 band preamp is another good example of a really nice 2 band.
I think there's some compression in the amp or the focusrite. Others have pointed out, but I haven't really been able to pinpoint it (haven't tried that hard to be honest).
Hard to say, they're very different companies. There are some warwicks that I absolutely LOVE, but the prices have inflated a lot and the german ones are a bit more unobtainable now.
BTW my Ray5 came in yesterday and it has the tightest B string I have even seen on a 34" scale. I have a message to EB asking what strings are on it. It's a really nice Bass I spent a littler over an hour setting it up including cutting the nut and it plays great...OH and I had to lower the pickup on the bass side because the B string was overwhelming.
The blue finished version of this is like a BIG step DOWN from this finish....they probably don't sell many of the blue.....that's why the blue 4 and 5 stringers are on sale on Sweetwater as I type!!!!!
I ALMOST snagged the blue. I like it. Many of the burst examples didn't have that great of a flame. However, this one's top was screaming "BUY ME". I had to ;P
Huge Spector fan. I’ve owned a handful including a Woodstock custom. Fantastic tone, ergonomics and reliability. Owned Warwicks too but it’s a different vibe. Spector has a guttural sound that is very different from the Warwick growl. Warwick has a treble bite that I hate and if you read the story on the NS/Streamer licensing you’ll see about the honor end. Warwicks high end stuff is awesome. The neck on a Spector is a lot like a 70’s P bass B neck shape while a Warwick is more of a U shape chunker. Great job Lobster.
Thanks! Yeah definitely different vibe. Used to have a Thumb 4 NT. Some similarities in the tone here, but the differences in the "growl" is definitely what offsets them. I actually haven't read too much about the NS/Streamer debacle, but I will definitely read up. Thanks again my friend!
It is! I've never been a fan of spector necks. They're very thick (this one is no different), but I always thought the finished necks of the euro NTs combined with the girth made it uncomfortable for me. The natural finished roasted maple neck on the other hand is a DREAM.
Man I just HOPE my Bassmods J5 roasted neck and board look as SAAAWEEEEEET as this one does!!!!!!!...and MOST of all plays as good or BETTER than you say this one does...just think ..it will have that NICE slim jazz neck profile!!!!...can't wait!!!
Im not a gigging bassist. Rarely do I play with others. I'm more of a hobbyist, playing on my own and recording stuff. But man I really want this bass :(. I can afford it, but something tells me that buying such a pro instrument is too much, but I still want it. Can someone help me? x)
Juan! I'd say if you have the opportunity to try it, go for it. They're wonderful instruments. It doesn't matter what you use the bass for as long as YOU enjoy it! We're only on this earth for a limited time, make it count and enjoy things that bring you happiness and joy :)
@@LowEndLobster Dude thanks a lot!!!!!! So I ended up deciding for the NS Pulse 4. I'm not a 100% convinced with the sandblasted style (I chose the charcoal gray), but I think I'll grow to like it. It's a shame they didn't also make a glossy finish like they did with the Legend 4 Standards. I had actually purchased a Legend 4 Tobacco Sunburst through American Music Supply, but the unit I got had the reversed P pickups (as opposed to the classic configuration) and the letter format on the headstock was different, and it didn't display what was shown in the pictures. So I thought, after having a bad unit, I'll increase my budget, and went for the NS Pulse 4. My dream bass is the Euro 4. And technically I can buy it, but I'll feel guilty later😭 But I want it anyways!!!! I MIGHT just go for the Euro 4 honestly.
Man I've really come to enjoy your reviews and interesting sense of humor, BUT that 60 cycle hum/noise/buzz you got going on with most of the reviews HAS to be your amp or cable.... Because like 90% of the basses you demo sound noisy, and I know 90% of those basses wouldn't create that noise... Please address this, bc it's killing us subs, worst case scenario just turn the horn off on the amp or something?
Thanks Seth! It's not. I actually took this bass to my tech to investigate the noise issue further. The P pickup on this one is a bit noisy. Replicated the issue over there and can repeat it over here as well in different rooms. This vid was also pre-power conditioner too, but I just picked up the bass now and the P pickup is the culprit here.

Yet to own a Spector but on my short list. Do you feel the lack of a mid control on preamp is a detractor?

It tapers but not to the extreme of the Jazz. It's similar to a Stingray.

Does this bass require a battery for the preamp?
Yes, however the pickups (stock) don't require batteries. The EMGs that I swapped into this bass do require batteries however.

The neck on a Spector is a lot like a 70’s P bass B neck shape while a Warwick is more of a U shape chunker. Great job Lobster.
Thanks! Yeah definitely different vibe. Used to have a Thumb 4 NT. Some similarities in the tone here, but the differences in the "growl" is definitely what offsets them. I actually haven't read too much about the NS/Streamer debacle, but I will definitely read up. Thanks again my friend!

It is! I've never been a fan of spector necks. They're very thick (this one is no different), but I always thought the finished necks of the euro NTs combined with the girth made it uncomfortable for me. The natural finished roasted maple neck on the other hand is a DREAM.
Man I just HOPE my Bassmods J5 roasted neck and board look as SAAAWEEEEEET as this one does!!!!!!!...and MOST of all plays as good or BETTER than you say this one does...just think ..it will have that NICE slim jazz neck profile!!!!...can't wait!!!
That bass sounds great but I'm surprised it's so noisy.

Im not a gigging bassist. Rarely do I play with others. I'm more of a hobbyist, playing on my own and recording stuff. But man I really want this bass :(. I can afford it, but something tells me that buying such a pro instrument is too much, but I still want it. Can someone help me? x)
Juan! I'd say if you have the opportunity to try it, go for it. They're wonderful instruments. It doesn't matter what you use the bass for as long as YOU enjoy it! We're only on this earth for a limited time, make it count and enjoy things that bring you happiness and joy :)
@@LowEndLobster Dude thanks a lot!!!!!! So I ended up deciding for the NS Pulse 4. I'm not a 100% convinced with the sandblasted style (I chose the charcoal gray), but I think I'll grow to like it.
It's a shame they didn't also make a glossy finish like they did with the Legend 4 Standards. I had actually purchased a Legend 4 Tobacco Sunburst through American Music Supply, but the unit I got had the reversed P pickups (as opposed to the classic configuration) and the letter format on the headstock was different, and it didn't display what was shown in the pictures. So I thought, after having a bad unit, I'll increase my budget, and went for the NS Pulse 4. My dream bass is the Euro 4. And technically I can buy it, but I'll feel guilty later😭 But I want it anyways!!!! I MIGHT just go for the Euro 4 honestly.

Man I've really come to enjoy your reviews and interesting sense of humor, BUT that 60 cycle hum/noise/buzz you got going on with most of the reviews HAS to be your amp or cable....
Because like 90% of the basses you demo sound noisy, and I know 90% of those basses wouldn't create that noise...
Please address this, bc it's killing us subs, worst case scenario just turn the horn off on the amp or something?
Thanks Seth! It's not. I actually took this bass to my tech to investigate the noise issue further. The P pickup on this one is a bit noisy. Replicated the issue over there and can repeat it over here as well in different rooms. This vid was also pre-power conditioner too, but I just picked up the bass now and the P pickup is the culprit here.
