It sounds and plays great now....but.......but.........BUT......there are planets that weigh less and I'm sure it has it's own gravitational field!!!! Echoing what another comment said. I'm delighted to see you back and so comfortable as you are, fantastic.
@@-dash. No. frets 13-16 were high across g, d and a strings, a couple of others too, notably the c# on the B string, it meant that if you were setting the relief correctly you'd have horrible buzz at the low end, adding more relief it choked out at the high end. All sorted now. Just a disappointment at this value of bass. I'm not hugely impressed about sire quality, don't get me wrong the finish is superb but some of the functional detail that you expect to feel quality is a bit lacking. I have a v7 in white with a tort pickguard. I love it. I like the pearl pickguard on this bass. This seems very similar with the exception of the neck and bridge. Loving the new look of the channel and how comfortable you have been with your new identity. Keep up the good work.
Man, Lobster, Your playing is really something else now! I don't know if it's just being more comfortable so more comfortable expressing yourself, or if you've just been practicing your a** off for most of the year, or some combination of the two, but it's a marked improvement. I would have said you were a good player before, but now you're just on a different level. Really liking the new stuff.
WONDERFUL to see you back. Genuinely, I was a bit sad to see such an enthusiastic person kind of 'disappear'. I really need to get a Sire bass at some point. It's "my sound". All the very best to you!!!!!
Your reviews are great; just enough balance between casual talk and technical detail so even a newbie like me can understand clearly. I'm definitely subbing, and will use a lot of the videos here as reference for choosing my 'first' instrument. P.S: That strap is very cute :)
Outstanding video! I always thought you were an excellent player but wow! Your playing and especially your artistry are amazing! Keep these videos coming. You are the closest bass players have to Phil McKnight on you tube 😊
For the money, this might be the best Jazz bass buy out there. I’m curious what you think of it compared to the Sadowsky MetroExpress Jazz. As usual, great video!
Love me some Sire. The definition of punching above your weight. Great stock but also excellent mod platforms. Love all the new riffs and grooves you’ve created in your time off!
I feel like 70s Jazz Bass open bridge tone is like it's own thing, it doesn't really do a ton in terms of "Bass" but is really nice as a "what if I squished a strat and a clav together" kind of sound
I agree re Sire Pre Amp. Too much going on there and I found it was quite noisy as well when I recorded with it. They are great for the price but I ended up selling my Sire because of the pre amp and I didn't think it was worth it replacing the pre amp in the end. On another note, just wanted to say I was inspired to mod up a Sterling Ray4 because of your videos. I ended up using the retrovibe stinger 77 preamp and retrovibe replacement Musician style pickup topped off with an Allbridge bridge which was the cherry on top. With the mods it's definitely a viable option instead of taking out my pre Ernie Ball 1983 Stingray. They both sound similar but also quite different. Welcome back Lobster, You look happy :)
Nice to have you back !!! I have the V8 5str. Swamp Ash ! Love it❤ I got my Sire Z7 -5 str. Swamp Ash ! 10 of 10 points ! It ’s sounds outstanding . I can confirm, playing bass guitar does cause giggles. That's why you often see the bassist standing relatively motionless, they are struggling to maintain composure.
Great review. I have a first gen V7. All the upgrades to the V8 are what I would want. My V7 is VERY heavy! I got mine when they were first introduced and for an incredible price. Trying to justify the change to the V8, but your review has me really thinking about it. Thanks again for the great review.

Great video as usual. I hope Sire will make a passive P/J with roasted maple neck (maybe even 24 fret). That would be dope. I have a P7 as my main axe, but always use passive mode anyway.
Hey Lobster! Long time fan. I'm curious, are you planning on doing a Sire Z7/Z3 review? I know you love those 'rays. I've been looking forward to it releasing for a long time (even though I don't NEED another bass). Thanks for being awesome.

Hi Lobster, glad you're back. Will we see non bass gear reviews in the future? Would love to see a breakdown of gigbags, including the Sire gigbag, for example.
Sire continues to build great products. I had a V77 5 and it was a very good bass except for the complicated pre amp that had 7 knobs. I much preferred the 5 way switch on my Stingray 5 HH where I could do predictable tone changes. Sire required fiddling with knobs and hearing it which is a no no in playing live. I had the Sire gig bag and it is a good gig bag but not even close to the quality of my Mono Vertigo. Great review. Love the translucent white finish with roasted neck combo. One last complaint is Sire announces a new model and it can be years before they are actually available.
Loving the Microcosm sections of your videos! Once you do a nice long big video on that I can see myself leaving that on in the background! I took a trip to Sweetwater last weekend and wanted to get my hands on a V-series Sire, but they're out of stock. There's probably a good reason for that. The closest thing they had was a D-5 in the used gear room, so I at least got to check out the neck, which was very good, albeit a little sticky for my tastes. I'm guessing the neck here on this V8 isn't like that based on what you've said. I liked the Reverend roasted maple necks better (a Decision P and a Mercalli 4). I can't stop thinking about the Revs in my quest to get my first nice bass in the near future. Love your videos, especially the new ones. Keep 'em coming!!
If I could give some feedback though on effect choices - I would tend towards ones that don't colour the tone *too* much. Like a lot of bassists will play with light overdrive on sometimes most of the time, obviously Chorus can be good to see how well the bass works for post punk or 80s type tones. The Big Muff is fun but not the best choice as by design it filters out most of the actual frequencies going in(unless you're running it with tone wicker of course!), it's almost more of a synthy thing. The Dark World sounded amazing on this bass.
Hey Lobster, thank you for this very informative Video. Id like to ask, if you think the v7 and v8 sound very similar or if they have a relevant sound difference? Im considering buying a v7.
Hi, thanks for your reviews, they’ve been really informative and helpful to me. I’m considering buying a used 2023 v7 (2nd gen) for £250 (4 string). For the price and in your experience, would you say go for it? Do you recommend I mod it at all and if so what with? I also need a DI box and wondered at whether there’s any that you’d recommend to go with it (plus or minus amp modellers etc)? Style wise I play neo soul, pop, but not much slapping. Thanks so much!
Hi Lobster! After years of being subscribed I know that if the cat likes it it's a winner. I have the second gen V7 and over all ( I feel it's the preamp) the V8 did not sound different. And I have alder with a Ebony fretboard, I think?
I dont think there's any real sound difference between this and a v7 vintage (stock) tbh. This is basically a slight materials and hardware upgrade (they nailed the aesthetic too). Priced close to where the V7 vintage ash was.

Nice bass, but I agree those preamps are option overload. Wish sire had a simpler preamp like a Sadowsky or a middle of the road like Aguilar OBP-3.
The opb-3 also has (as option) a stacked treble bass and mid with push pull frequency selection, so equally many options minutes the full sweep range.
