Mr. Rustman, my name is Greg Wonhoff, and I live in South Bend, WA. I am a veteran of 39 years as an elementary school teacher and a 45 year veteran as a varsity football coach. I just found you last week, and I really enjoy your informative drumming videos. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with all of us.
The material in the skbs comes out ( after many years though and the black glue they use will get all over your drums , I would get the gators and stuff them with the pointy tip foam , the straps on the skb also get worn out like a cargo belt , but skb is really great too just gotta watch out for that foam
The foam liner in the skb I bought started falling out after about a year - 40 gigs or so. I had to buy spray adhesive. Not to mention issues with the strap and trashy clip. I ended up buying a 2000lb rated strap and replacing it.
I recommend Humes and Berg Enduros. Lasted me literal decades- zero issues even with so much abuse and misuse of the straps. My drums are always protected.
I have had SKB cases for years and after about 12 years, the padding on the bass drum case and floor tom started peeling off. Other than that, the stacking is a real boon for a drum set if you are wheeling a set with a hand truck. They never slide or fall.
I don’t really get hard cases without any liner or padding. Kinda defeats the purpose. Soft cases are more padded and protective in many cases it seems
It certainly seems that way. But, like I said in the video, my drums have fallen in my cases, and there isn't a mark on any of them. That has to be from how the case 'snuggly' holds the drum , so it never touches the case walls? I don't really know. That's just my thought.
Trust me bro. It makes a difference even without padding. I’ve dropped drums in my unpadded humes and berg cases that would have destroyed a drum outside of a case. Not to mention the finishes being protected when things are getting moved around loading in and out.
I have SKB case's, one needs new strap drill out rivets ? and dw drums are a tight fit, I remove wing nut and tape to top head, just on small drums, 8", 10" still good case's and yes they stack very nice.
@@alonzovillarreal4666 from what I've been able to read and view, you are correct. I'm going to buy a H&B snare case so I can review it here. Also, because I have one more snare that needs a case. LOL
They do seem solid. I used to have an ATA trap case. As great as it was, it ended up being more trouble to move around than I wanted. No doubt sturdy, though!
@@KirksDrumRoom not much choice with my hardware. I have a massive Gibraltar cage. fits in 2 cases. one is 72'' long, 28'' wide and 32'' high. 1/2'' construction on 6 big blue wheels. the other is 60'' long, 24'' wide , 24'' high. the big one weight around 1200 pounds loaded. the other around 600
If you own a metal snare, you have to get a hard case. Soft bags will not protect it if dropped. Had a Pearl brass snare. Dropped it dented it. Knocked it back as best as I could. Wood drums can take soft cases.
Humes & berg beats the hell out of both of these in my opinion. The straps last forever. I’ve been picking up my loaded drums by the straps for more than 20 years (not recommended). I bought an skb case a couple years back because it didn’t have a case for an extra long kick I bought. 1st the clip broke, next the strap came off the case, then the foam liner came loose - total trash. I’ve never bought a gator case but I owned a gator gig bag. I play around 40-50 gigs a year. The gator started falling apart after 5 gigs. The No name brand I had before that gator POS lasted around 6 years. So based on that I’ll never buy a gator case. I don’t know what Humes and Berg costs these days because I’ve never had to buy replacements. They’ve lasted my entire semi pro music career. They’re rugged as hell.
I think bags are wonderful! Light, easy to use, and stores easily. But for long treks from the vehicle to the stage floor, especially here in Las Vegas, I prefer cases.

Many thanks for adding that point. I thought that might be the case with the inside material. But I don't have first hand experience with it.

That's awesome to hear! From my current experiences with them they seem great.
Is that a Session Custom in vintage fade sunburst finish in that corner?! Darn good drums!
Nope. That would be the rest of my Mapex kit that I haven't set up recently. However, I'm getting the urge to build the big kit again. LOL
To make a video and talk about drum cases for over 14 mins and make it interesting is a credit to you, well done !!
Thanks for the compliment! I'm still trying to figure out how to do this RUclips thing better. Not an easy task. LOL 😆

@@martinel2450 that’s fair, but I guess I don’t get how they are better than soft cases unless they are at risk of being crushed

Many thanks for offering up this information! That's good to know.
if you want to get rid of the cases, especially any broken ones, let me know, I'm interested!
One question I got some cases from XL Protector. Got them 15 years agooo. Sooo XL protector's are gator now?
That is correct. Here's a link to the site : gatorco.com/shop-by-category/percussion/drum-cases/
I use Ahead gig bags. A little bit pricey but they get the job done. And i love them!!
I've got the Ahead cymbal bag, and it's AWESOME! Out of all the cymbal cases and bags I own, it beats them all.
@@KirksDrumRoom Sweet!! When I bought my Yamaha kit several years ago, I figured I might as well get some bags to. Protect my investment.
@@frankspikes7858 Wise decision!
@@frankspikes7858 I like the Ahead soft bags. They are nice.
Because most toms have two rims on them, and it's really only going to be metal on plastic.... The felt makes me feel way better.
I completely understand that.
Right, how about Humes and Berg?
That will have to wait until I get my hands on one. And that could be a very long time. 😆
@@KirksDrumRoom Why did you said rolled the intro?
@@anthonyn1312 just a silly intro.
I have the Humes and Berg Enduro cases, way better than either of these. Every SKB case I’ve owned has a crack in it.

I actually ordered a H&B case just to talk about it here. Hopefully putting a video up in a few weeks, after I get it.
I have a 30 year old set of enduro. still solid
Good info as always.
Many thanks, as always! 👍🏻

Yeah, they seem to be built extremely well. From what I found they are cheaper online than the SKB's. All the more reason to use H&B!
