The tongue sticking out was part of the Haka War Dance. It was an intimidation tactic. The tongue sticking out was letting the enemy know that if and when they lose, the maori will eat their flesh.
Crazy these guys were around high school age here . Great band and very good live!
"Are they dancing?"
Bruh that aint a dance. That the Haka.
Back then it was used to intimate before a battle, but now its often used to honor guests, for funerals, etc.
If you want to see a modern interpretation, check out a video about the New Zealand All Blacks perform it.
it turns out Maori language works really well with metal
First new band I've watched on your channel for a while (sorry, been too busy to want to discover new music). I enjoyed this and hope you'll bring them back - I'll explore them more either way.
The band was formed by the De Jong brothers, all of whom were still minors.
I recommend you to react to them live. The songs are not as long, as they do not have to adapt to the images of the video clip, being less repetitive and without losing power.
Without a doubt, one of the freshest bands today.
These kids were like 15/16 years old when they did this, also alot of the warriors in the video are actually their relatives and family
You got this out of the way now you have to do Bloodywood from India.
I don’t know , but the Alien Weaponry their band name maybe refers to the muskets in this back story. Which of course would be completely alien to the Māori when they were first used against them. In the video they also use them like clubs once they confiscate them.
For the tongue sticky out thing, look up the history of “the Haka “war dance and it’s significance from Māori history to modern times in New Zealand it’s pretty amazing 👅 just like the Tā Moko
Greetings from Flevoland 🤘🏼
I've read the name was inspired by them watching the sci-fi movie District 9, but I had the same thought when I first saw this video and it's definitely a good way to describe those English muskets.
Teen hard rock trio from Canada, Freeze The Fall.
I'm telling you, they're not to be missed.
Official videos for Glitch and Daughters Of Witches.
Tan-GA-ta 😁
Whats horrific about this freakish three piece is their ages when they recorded this track.
They were all under 20 at the time of recording this track. The drunmer was 17/18 and he's two years older than his brother Lewis....the singer/guitarist.
That has to be worth mentioning!!
Saw them at Welcome to Rockville in '20. The Hu also btw. You should also check out Cemican from Mexico. They also sing in their native Mayan. ❤️🔥🤘🏼
I suggest that you hear cursed by henrique mendonça. that's really amazing.
Never heard this band before. Are they singing in Maori? If not, what language is it? Do they always sing in a foreign language, or do they sing in English and this is a one-off for the historical context of the song? (which would be pretty awesome)
Please react to "More" by J hope. It's a Rap/Rock crossover song. Make sure your subtitles are on!
Hi guys, I discovered the channel recently but I already love your reactions, could you react to More by jhope please
I am originally from Scotland, currently live in Northern England but grew up in New Zealand. I know enough Maori to know that "Kai Tangata" means "Food People". Yes, that is a reference to cannibalism. The Maori did not play. Often referred to as the greatest fighters in the world the Maori people earned their badass rep in conflicts with the worlds most powerful military, Imperial Britain's. Typically outnumbered 10 to 1, with a Stone age tech base against breech loading rifled artillery, steam powered warships and breech loading personal firearms the Maori often beat the British by employing fortifications in useless remote areas and daring them to be attacked. The Brits typically fell for the Maori ruses and insisted on thinking of them as inferior, stupid people. This was repeatedly used against them by Maori who did things like faking British bugle calls to order troops to attack them. By WWII the Maori Battalion of the NZ army were part of the NZ 2nd Division, the unit that saw the most continuous combat of any division in the war. In Crete they basically destroyed Germany's airborne capability. In North Africa they led the offense in the Battle of Alamein. later, after the US finally joined in, they were busy attacking Italy (and helping capture Rome) They took the lead in the battle for Monte Cassino and ended up invading Austria. Many Maori kids since then have been patriotically named for historical battles. Even today Maori are over represented in the NZ army (in Maori called Ngati Taumatenga, or the tribe of the God of war.) Last month they were involved in evacuating foreign nationals after political strife in New Caledonia Our SAS special operations troops are considered Tier 1 operators and were fighting in Afghanistan less than a month after the Twin Towers came down on September 11 2001. NZ was one of the very few countries that deployed combat troops to Vietnam. Maori culture is an integral part of NZ military culture.
Can you please react to EXO... They're genius in terms of music.
