My wife and I having been watching your videos for approximately a month and really enjoying them. Apologies for not giving you a thumbs up on everyone we've watched because they are all awesome. Be safe and keep up the good videos.
Excellent. I'm glad you liked it. Interesting to hear your opinion on music. I'm the same. It gets on my nerves when over used too. I'll get the gpx and put it in the description this evening 👍👍
My dad taught me that too ( I believe to also save on unnecessary additional spending) to be 'meticulous' of what you have. He said this to me; "What you have, be sure to take care of them" (so you don't have to keep spending additional money for new items).
I recently discovered your channel. I like this video and your previous ones too - now subscribed. I enjoy your sense of humour: seems to be essential when things don't go exactly as planned. Looking forward to watching your upcoming GDMBR series. Cheers, Derek in Ottawa
Lovely video! Just finished your GDMBR series and was exploring your other videos. My mom and I are flying to the UK later this summer from Minnesota to ride the Old Chalk Way and maybe the King Alfred's Way! Very excited!
Like you watching John Wick in twisted back to front way ..I'm working my way through all your vids in a twisted back to front way but unlike John Wick I find your content relatable , enjoyable , entertaining and humorous. Yourself and Ross make a great little production team mate. Thank you both for your effort and time for making these vids.
Gosh - I have an almost identical set-up to you! Coffee-wise I take a Soto Helix filter thing. A few papers and just enough ground coffee for the trip. I also make my own meals in a dehydrator. I too appreciate the lack of background music. Just the sound of wheels through mud (English Gravel?😂) is fine. Re. stuff- take what you want, not what other people think you should have- it’s your trip!
I'll take a look at the Soto Helix filter thing. I'm always looking for easier ways to make good coffee. I think I'll take your advice and stop obsessing about the gear I'll be taking and draw a line! Cheers 👍
Nice one! I'm glad to see someone else who usually grinds their coffee beans fresh having to put up with instant rubbish. Are your bars the Velo Orange Crazy Bars?
I always regret taking instant coffee. Especially that hideous stuff I used this time. They are Velo Orange Crazy bars. The aluminium ones. I really like them so far.
Hi Mat, Have recently come across your videos and have been binge watching all the bike packing ones. Noticed you have a Doblo van - have been looking at so many different vans to do exactly the same as you do - how do you rate it ?
I really like it. It's the long wheelbase version so long enough to fit a bed for anyone up to 6 foot. It drives really well (a bit slow but who cares). I've put 60k miles on it and it's been flawless. Mine is an ex BT van and I picked it up pretty cheap. I would buy another.
Thanks. I'm glad you liked it. I have a Velo Orange Mojave bottle cage. It's designed to fit the 40oz Kleen Kanteen or, I think a standard Nalgene. It works well. Expensive though.
@@matryderadventures if you do decide to go. It sounds an idyllic place and it is. However I would advise taking a good proper 1 person 4 seasons tent. Because if you don’t you probably won’t have a tent to sleep in the rest of the trip. My first night on Barra was absolutely brutal. The worst weather in terms of strong wind with huge gusts and rain I’ve witnessed outside of sleeping on a high mountain. And it was low level camping. 😳😳 I’m using a six moon designs Luna solo and the only reason it survived is my second pitch was behind a building.
@@matryderadventures I only have a Luna solo and I’m a seasoned camper. I was considering winds but Barra was brutal. It’s scared me a little as on the islands I’ve had sun, wind, rain, cloudy all 4 seasons of weather in a day (apart from snow) it appears unpredictable. I’m considering getting a 1 person durston tent. I don’t have a 4 season tent, but I would have problem sleeping without one or be prepared for your tent to collapse in the middle of the night. Even Uist is as bad as it’s very open barren land with no trees and very limited shelter.
Lovely views as usual, I think Ross might be trying to kill you off with the various obstacles you need to lift your bike over and the variety of terrain! Looks all good fun though. Was that an eccles cake you had ? If so, it was criminal that you ate it with no butter on😱. It's great to see you're a safety guy being so attached to your helmet 😊 Brilliant to see that your training for your trip is going well.
I raise my visor to its max when on long downhills when its really hot, i feel like i get more airflow to my head. ps, start the divide with full sintered brake pads.
Thanks. I thought there must be a reason. That makes sense. I'll take your advise and get the full sintered pads. I'll take a spare set too. Any recommendations?

strip of duck tape/ gorilla tape on the rim, does the job, on the mug... you can tell you`ve gone rogue, if you was in wales, youd be heating your coffee with a dragon and using a sheep as a sleeping bag, sywalker style, have you gone soft lad? ha ha lol :)

Absolutely perfect video. Felt part of the journey. No background music for a change, well done for that.

Watching these old ones to fill the gap between new ones. Engine warning light on? No worries.
Very good video. Beautiful scenery
Thanks. I'd recommend the South Downs to anybody. Lovely place.

I was in Wales 2022 for the Global Bushcraft Symposium with a rental car. The roundabouts were the only thing stressing me out a LOT.😄
