Another great, inspiring video. Some of us need a bit of inspiration to reignite our mojo. At 63 im aware that time isnt on my side. Did LEJOG 2 years ago with my son, we took 12 days. Darent tell the Mrs it was the best holiday of my life. Nowadays i find cycling in freezing conditions for more than 90 minutes too painful, used to 20 years ago. Good luck with TCR, sounds like a great adventure. Please keep putting out these well filmed and edited videos, always a great pick me up. Shout out to Leonard Lee not far from you. Stay safe mate.
Sounds like you had a great trip on LEJOG, I’d love to ride it if I can manage the point to point logistics… this weather is a pain eh. Thanks a lot for the comment, am I near LML? Not sure where he’s based actually
Wow !! TCR, congrats on getting accepted for that, I know which dot I’ll be watching, look forward to updates on progress towards the start day Andy. Another great video.👍.
Great news Andy!! Love your videos, watching this one as I'm on the turbo in a freezing Scotland. Good luck over the next months and looking forward to you prep videos. 🚲👍🏻
Nice one! Such a lot of work to plan - I struggle even with multi-days in just one country especially overseas, the logistics can be a lot. I guess you can only plan so much in terms of stops etc because you wont really know until you're out there riding. Have only previously dot watched a couple of Tour Divides and was literally AMAZED at how little they slept. Will definitely add TCR to the watch list - if Josh Ibbett doesn't race no doubt he'll do a nice commentary on RUclips.
Hey, yeah it will be a hell of a lot of planning, I’ve got quite a while to plan as best as I can. But have another race thats about half this length in May so have to plan that also. Wish me luck 🤣
Definitely wishing you luck @@andycultracycling . Its always great to have a perfect plan (if that exists) but at the end of the day if you have a plan to get to/from the start/end, the first nights accommodation, a route and a phone, you know you'll get there one way or the other. Envious of the adventure.
Looking forward to following your preparations for TCR - your training rides, bike choice, some info on your setup etc. I was dotwatching the race last year - highly inspired by my discovery of Josh Ibbets excellent daily update/coverage of the race on his RUclips-channel. I also recommend listening to the Lost Dot-podcast. I am sure you might already know of those sources to what the race is like 🙂
Thankyou mate :) I’ll cover it all, I’m pretty excited now, I haven’t heard of the podcast actually so will look that one up I’ll be ding a ton of research now :)
Best of luck to you at the Transcontinental! That's a big one. I look forward to dot watching you there. It is a lot more interesting than one may think, especially if you kinda know the person. You find yourself cheering them on and at times really wondering what's going on. Recently I watched the video of Lachlan Morton doing The Divide Race. I'd also done the dot watch as the race was going live. The video certainly brought life to the dot watch. Here's to you having a great race and I'm sure I'm not the only one hoping for some video after you finish. Know that many of us will be cheering you on from afar.
Hey! Thanks again! The TCR is a big one yeah, but I cannot wait. Ive been watching it so long now I'm ready for it, but you never know with that level of race what can happen, especially with the parcours! I will video it yeah, I'm hoping to film it and also push hard so lets see what happens :)
Good luck with the TCR Andy. Look forward to seeing what training you have planned. Talking from first-hand experience there is so much to enjoy during the race; one of the toughest elements is by far the mental aspect of it. Trying to spin a positive when your feeling at your lowest is key; and you will reach a low - everyone does! For many riders, the goal is simply to finish, not what position you finish in the race. Although you've probably heard this advice already it does help to hear from as many people as possible to cement the reality of what you are about to undertake. As for the South Downs, signed up for the Great British Escapades for the secondary year running so really looking forward to that one once again!
Thanks for the tips mate! Did you enjoy your TCR? It is huge but I'm ready for it, just a big year of prep now, I have all points north first (raced it last year too) and some other events to build condition. It's the planning of the route that will be most complicated I expect. What is great British escapades? Is that gravel?
Great British Escapades, yeah gravel with a little lean towards mtb, it's 480km north and south downs in june. had lots of fun last year so ride it again! Yes, route planning is essential, but once your out there it's a case of being able to adapt on the fly too. Never had to use, but good idea to make your routes available on your phone offline just in case. The route planning is also a great deal of fun, I only went wrong once and ended up on a narrow track through a farmer's field... luckily only short! I remember convenient bench at where I slept for a couple of hours during the hot sun. You'll make good memories you'll never forget!@@andycultracycling
Looking forward to following your TCR preparation. I can't begin to imagine how you would put such a massive challenge together. What were the entry qualifications? South Downs are very special and the S D Way is a great way to see them. Back in the 90s I took part in what was billed as the World Trail Running Championships but anyone could enter, 80 miles from Petersfield to Eastbourne. A fantastic experience I couldn't get close to repeating these days.
Hey, it’s gonna be a lot of work but I’m excited, I have another race to plan in May too. Qualifications wise, they kinda see your cv and also ask lots of hypothetical questions on navigating and survival etc to make sure you’re as safe as possible. That 80 mile run sounds pretty mental to me!
I rode many of these roads just after Christmas to go and see my parents in Littlehampton. I came down from South London. I got really unlucky with the weather but still really enjoyed the ride. Am definitely planning on replicating it in the summer if I get time! Unlike you I had to get the train back up though! Look forward to seeing the build up you have for the TCR.
It’s a beautiful area eh? You must have been riding when the rain actually fell so I dread to think… thanks for watching, once the weather is better I can actually start some proper training rides, take it easy
@@andycultracycling it really is. Unreal! You are correct. I went through Amberly and I might as well of been on a raft! Crazy scenes. But it just made the Fish and Chips with Mum and Dad all the more special. Good luck mate. I’ll be watching 🙏🏻

congratulations on obtaining a place.
looking foward to your videos both training for pcr & the event itself. Great way to celebrate your 40th.
Thanks, and definitely, 4000km for my 40th, cannot wait
That was great Andy! Good luck with all your training for TCR.
You always seem to be flying along - what speed are doing?
Hey, thanks for watching and commenting :) it really varies but on these winter training rides they’re usually around 15mph avg I’d say
Great video Andy and all the best with the tcr and the training. I'm sure you'll do yourself proud 👏
Thankyou mate, a few degrees warmer and can start some longer training rides 😁
TCR sounds awesome - way to much for me though....my goal this year is the modest 205 mile Chase The Sun across the country [South].
I wouldn’t mind doing CTS it’s just the logistics of point to point other ends of the country like LEJOG is a similar challenge, CTS looks really good
Andy - what tyres do you use ?
Hey, I use 32mm gp 4 season in the winter. I’m thinking to do a mini review on them they’re bloody bomb proof!
