I met Elvis when I was a kid. My mother used me to get his attention because he always liked kids. When he got out of the car to do rehearsals for a concert he was doing mom put me on her shoulders and told me to yell Elvis. I did and he saw me and went through a small crowd to come shake my hand. I had no idea who he was because I was young. But, I remember him like right now. He literally did not look real. He look like one of those dolls with perfect features and perfect hair. I could feel his positive energy. I remember he had a great smelling cologne and the scent stayed on my hand for the rest of the day and my mother refused to shower me that day so she could smell my hand the rest of the night. He said to me hi buddy how are you ?? I said I'm ok. He said ok ?? No !! I want you to be happy and not ok. I said ok. He said I told you not ok. I said ok. He started laughing and put his hand on my head and rubbed it for a moment and he then walked in. My mother damn near had a heart attack after he left because she started to cry uncontrollably. So, I've been lucky I've met in person people like Elvis, Madonna, Michael Jackson at Madison Square Garden, Tupac Shakur four days before he was killed and even Robin Williams. Britt here is another video dedicated to Elvis that you will love to react to. It is Elvis daughter singing a sing to her dad. It is really good...ruclips.net/video/pAEpuJtgzEg/видео.html

I ultimately found two of them that weren’t cheesy looking. One was of him in the black leather suit. The other was akin to him up to the microphone at Sun. It was very subtlety done. Never saw another one like it. After all these years, never found two I’ve loved more than what I’ve got.

I suspect double meaning in describing Elvis as "Black velvet". As in also meaning how he sung black style music (rock&roll etc.), sung in a black style, and even danced in a black ghettos style (where he grew up).

@@memphisflashfan1 The Velvet Elvis paintings I saw were all cheesy-looking. When I first visited my parents who had moved from Memphis to South Carolina in 1989 my mother took me to a little store on Saint Helena Island. There were Velvet Elvis paintings on the walls. I remember saying to her, "We can't get away from Elvis on Velvet". But hey, the song is great and her voice is fantastic. :) Nice tribute and nice reaction!

The phrase about "Love Me Tender" refers to his 50's hit song by the same name and his first movie role by the same name. Recommend you watch the movie to see a very young Elvis in a dramatic role that takes place in the Civil War.

Elvis was blessed with more than a one of a kind voice but the incredibly rare ability to connect with his fans to make us feel like he's thinking of only you when he's singing. A lot of other artists have a lot of great talents and abilities to marvel at but Elvis has a quality that no one can quite explain except to say he's Elvis.

I saw Alannah in concert when this song first came out (she was opening for Robert Plant on one of his solo tours). She sounded great live, her whole set was really good.
I've watched all your Elvis reactions & love them! But they're 70's Elvis (again, love it!) but you should also check out early Elvis in the 50's when he first took the world by storm.
I was a baby when that happened. But I saw Elvis in concert twice in the 70's. I got a good close look & living, breathing, three-dimensional, he was the most beautiful person I've ever seen. It was hard to believe he was even real. And his voice was simply glorious live.
I was about 19 & into Zeppelin & the big Rock bands of the day but I'd grown up hearing Elvis, seeing his movies etc. He was a true living legend & I'm so happy I got to experience him in person.
Also, about this song..both Alannah & the songwriter have said the song title has nothing to do with those kitschy velvet paintings. It's about the overall mystique of Elvis.
Loved your reaction. You have a lovely voice!

"Black Velvet" connects to Elvis Presly in 3 ways. 1. It is a name of a wiskey that he enjoyed. 2. He used a hair dye that was called "Black Velvet" and 3. After his death many artists painted his portrait on black velvet cloth. The car is a Cadilac of the era when he first rose to fame, although it is not the custom pink convertibale he drove. This song is as pure Missisippi Deltaland Blues as I have ever heard yet it was written by 2 Canadian and sung by a third. I think elvis would have enjoyed it..

And what James Hawkins just said! Your reactions are special and the rocket ride (43.4K and rising) continues because of it. Your reactions are a tribute to Elvis - you see him as complete - performer and person, being very honest with his audience. Kinda just like you - keep it goin' lady!! Oh, by the way: seems like you have your own set of pipes as well!!

I'm proud to have her CD, "Rockinghorse" in my collection. Back when I co-owned a little coffee shop (and could therefore pick the music when it was my shift), "Livin' on a Memory" and "Lies and Rumors'" would get regular play.

My Mama was born in Memphis in 1942. Her school bus passed by Elvis' home, Graceland, every day and all of the girls would rush to the side of the bus that was closest to Graceland to see if they could catch a glimpse of him.

I literally love Alannah...she burned very hot and fast. Her career was all upward trajectory until she took a tumble off of a stage. She never fully recovered physically from the injuries. Spent many years in lawsuits over fault for the spill. I love your reactions....don't change a bit.

Elvis loved Cadillacs. He drove them himself - and gave dozens away to poor folks, many of whom he just met on the spot. A very generous soul.

Elvis came from Tupelo MS. Most of the country's most influential artists (blues and country) were coming from the rural areas within a few hours of Memphis. Elvis grew up in the black projects, and was viewed as a weirdo in his teens for attending black gospel churches (white's didn't do such things in the 40s and 50s) and dressing in flamboyant colors and wearing mascara to darken his eyes.

Elvis drove a pink Cadillac. There's stories my Mom would tell of his fans writing letters to him, some sad stories, some happy, some just talking about what he meant to that person, and he would buy the fan a Cadillac like his.
