As a person who served 7yr sentence here in the USA i must say i think this is def a much more productive way to get people on the right track. My life improved substantially when i was able to go to work and live in a somewhat normal dorm. I am now proud to say i have been sober for almost 8yrs and i still work at the same job i started in jail im working on yr 6 now. It is so much better on our mind to teach how to deal with life on life's terms instead of just sticking someone in a cell for 5yrs. I am also Italian by heritage so this is pretty cool

Depends a lot on where you live/are.. police from smaller communities are often much more open, nicer & helpful.. Esp when they learn, that you have no crimminal intent.. Bcs off the lower crime rate & when everyone knows everyone else in some way, people do less crime. Bcs you either know your victim or they know you & you'll have the police on your doorstep the same day.. He probably realises, that a team off journalists will help the locals to get their story back on peoples radar & could help in the efforts to rebuild the town.. So why chase someone away, that could benefit the whole area? Dosen't make much sence
Italy is such a beautiful country. The people are beautiful, the language is beautiful, EVERYTHING is just gorgeous, even the crumbling buildings have a beauty about them. The segment you did on the ghost town of Apice was very well done. I love how you used old photos and showed how the places look today. Very well made documentary.

The Dr Seuss house, needs to be finished and turned into a B&B, so people can enjoy it!!! It's sad that he hurt himself and can't climb up to enjoy or work on his log cabin. I hope he finishes it.
Agreed. B&B's a great idea, if the multi-fam thing isn't happening, and to finance more work. Most certainly, if it's not "finished" nature will reclaim it quickly. It's a monument to dreamers and shouldn't be allowed to rot away. Can you imagine that guy's wife yacking in his ear, "Listen Phillip, no more bleep bleeping house on top of the houses until you finish the BATHROOM. I've had it with going outside in the snow." I like happy endings and want that nice fellow to see his his tower lived in.

All the videos were extremely informative, the prison system would be great in the U. Nice documentary. I’m italian, I do understand it can be hard in a regular prison without the freedom....but I don’t understand why prisons are not yet selfsustained by the inmates. Everyone inside, can work a little and help the comunity. Otherwise they get the money they deserve for their job, but the community still has to pay for all the accomodation and the rest. I mean, it has to be fair for them, but still self-sustained, especially in those days of low community budget.
I agree! And some people don't realize that here in America, a lot of prisons are actually slave camps that work the prisoners at extremely cheap labor whereas the prisons make a killing profit. I'm pretty sure the people pocketing the money are higher-ups. It's such a broken system here. Prisoners are raped, mistreated, stuck in a drab cell with no privilges, forced to fight each other, have hardly any sunlight and eat a poor diet. They will usually re-offend and come right back into prison over and over. Prisoners are treated like dirt so it's no wonder riots break out resulting in a lot of deaths and no wonder they try to escape. I can't see prisoners wanting to escape this prison, because there's no reason to. They have free range! Sorry if I got off your topic. :P
I loved the concept of jail in Milan. They understand human factor. The jail is calm & less threatening for inmates & the workers. I wish every jail in the world is like that! Only few jails that rehab’s prisoners rather than turning them into worst criminals!

*Touring old abandoned town when chief of police showed up* Americans: This is gonna be deadly, someone is definately getting shot! Chief of Police: Nooo, that is not how you tour abandoned city, *hold my gun* ... pulls out a ladder!
It was a little funny, I can't lie, but I'm American. I can also read body language, so even though he was waving his finger, since he was looking back and forth directly at the people filming, I could tell he meant no ill intent. Got any other assumptions about a group of people? Because of course, we're all the same.😑
American here. I have no fears of being killed by police. The odds are so incredibly low and 99% of those killed were criminals endangering other people's lives but that does not fit the anti-police, anti-self accountability narrative.
Yeah, with an interviewer all in his face, not respecting his grind. Of course. Most likely they asked everybody was it cool b4 the cameras went on tho.
The beautiful village in Italy, immediately reminded me of Pompeii and Herculanium. It must be terrible to know that the land beneath your feet is not stable.
Hope Phillip can find is the entire tower like he envisions in his lifetime. Get on it Phillip ! Get the money, make the time, soon ! You'll feel satisfied seeing it complete.
The Italian prison is a incredibly important idea about the concept of having your freedom taken away because you have done wrong and must be responsible in some way, especially when people are violent and dangerous to themselves and others. However the idea that this shouldn’t remove your dignity and humanity is key. Locking people in tiny horrible cells might feel good to those harmed and the people in society who believe in hell on earth for those who transgress, but it’s so horrific and it only makes anyone who eventually leaves more damaged and at risk than when they entered. It also absolutely creates an entire professional class in society which becomes immune to suffering and blind to the damage it inflicts on themselves and everyone in their lives. I’m thinking specifically of correction officers, but it applies to anyone involved in the criminal justice system. Especially the predatory corporations that invest in the idea of a perpetual captive workforce which they are not obligated to care for. The profit model is based on an ideology of forever prisoners; and the more people and longer sentences the better the profit. It is in every sense simply a slave economy named the criminal justice system (ironic name). This sort of incarceration model creates the things that it was meant to inhibit. Clearly there are so many better ways to address this problem in every society. What seems to be happening in this Italian prison is akin to rehabilitation through the arts, therapy, group responsibility, model socialization, empathy through working and caring for animals, cooking for others; this is clearly more of a school where they are reintroduced to values, appropriate social behavior, a sense of pride in accomplishment, and healthy self expression. I know that I would feel much safer if our prisons were as humane and focused on true rehabilitation of the hurt and broken individuals. Most may never have had any self esteem or support in their lives. They could learn to be better versions of themselves because it is something they want to do, not tortured, shamed, or broken into pretending to be simply because it’s so hellish that they’d do or say anything to get away. It’s so obvious. I think we (society) are also behaving criminally by thinking people are disposable and worthless. It’s just wrong. True, some people may never be safe enough to be able to live among us, but we shouldn’t feel justified in knowingly tossing them into an environment where they will be hurt, dehumanized, and further psychologically damaged. If we feel good about this there is something broken and mentally ill in us. Finding joy in other’s suffering is a psychological illness. Most jails and prisons are basically no better than modern day mental institutions with zero care or acknowledgement that they are doing so, or medieval dungeons with oubliettes; ie. solitary confinement. It seems like it would be more humane to just shoot people than to put them in solitary confinement for decades to slowly go insane. I think we have to do better because it is harming us as a society. We have way too many people locked away for our size and status as a first world country. Something has gone very very wrong somewhere. The cognitive dissonance between our concept of justice and dignity and the true reality of prison life is disturbing. It’s very clear why recidivism is so incredibly high; because no person can be healthy or better adjusted through degradation, brutality, and extreme neglect. It’s a wonder it’s not worse.

Great documentary. I am curious to know more about the cast/team. Could you please add credits to your documentaries?
I loved the concept of jail in Milan. They understand human factor. The jail is calm & less threatening for inmates & the workers. I wish every jail in the world is like that! Only few jails that rehab’s prisoners rather than turning them into worst criminals!
incredible documentary one of the best I have seen I would have loved to have been part of it
Totally outstanding
Finally a good cop I knew that to be one out there much respect.

*Touring old abandoned town when chief of police showed up*
Americans: This is gonna be deadly, someone is definately getting shot!
@@refinnej5302 neither do i... but im white... big difference... time to WAKE UP America!
@@refinnej5302 you’re speaking from the point of a privileged individual.
The Policeman was asking does anyone speak Italian, not "wagging" his finger at them.
Awesome video...gud job
The reconstructions are dope
I spent a life time in construction and I would never climb the ladders that they climbed. So dangerous and a huge OSHA violation. The girl has balls!
Where this is built the are no building restrictions, and honestly... I've seen much worse here. 😂
they looked perfectly fine to me, blocks at the feet and rope securing them to the structure. what more could you need.
I guess its a universal thing that a barber talks more than he works.
HE CAN WORK AS FAST AS HE TALKS ITS AN ITALIAN THING , lol
Yeah, with an interviewer all in his face, not respecting his grind. Of course. Most likely they asked everybody was it cool b4 the cameras went on tho.
I cant stop watching these documentaries
That was really enjoyable!
We should make a go found me for that gentleman to finish that amazing tower!!!
The beautiful village in Italy, immediately reminded me of Pompeii and Herculanium. It must be terrible to know that the land beneath your feet is not stable.
Thanks you this imformative video
Excellent. Thank you.
The best reality educational , pathway program queazy but challenges the mindset, the prison concept makes mental health well-being sense , 👍
Very good video.Thank you.
Hope Phillip can find is the entire tower like he envisions in his lifetime. Get on it Phillip ! Get the money, make the time, soon ! You'll feel satisfied seeing it complete.
Man, that prison makes me want to do a crime just so I could get my Master's Degree, lol.
Those building's and roofs were built very well
Thank you Italy. Thank you for showing the world a better way.
23:17 Pleasantly surprised with the music
I cant imagine eating soup made from bird spit.
Dipped in chocolate maybe
Phillip needs a go fund me page.
23:18 Rockin The Game and 50 Cent when they get to counting money😂😂😂😂
Totally agree with this, great comment 👍
24:05 bird feathers must NEVER end up in the bird spit that would be unsanitary
