  • We visit Coburg, Germany, a beautiful baroque city and home to the Saxe-Coburg und Gotha ducal family.
    In this episode of Searching for History, Erin, my brother Sterlin and I visit the Coburg, Germany. Coburg, the one-time capitol of the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg und Gotha, is located in Bavaria’s Upper Franconia, in Germany. Coburg dates back to as early as the 11th century. It should be noted that Coburg’s Marktplatz or Market Square is one of the most spectacular, amazingly beautiful baroque squares in Germany. Please join us as we walk around and see the sites of the amazing little city of Coburg.

    I lived in this beautiful town for 3 years during my studies. This is the most beautiful place I have ever stay in my life, I lived in Hong Kong, Frankfurt, Berlin, London (and a small town near it) and Manchester, all cities have it own charm (except Berlin), but none of them can compare to Coburg. If you have a family and you can speak good German, this place is a perfect place to raise your kids. I really miss my time in there, seeing it bring tears to me.

    I was struck by the WW2 Memorial that said the Regiment raised by the German Army from Coburg disappeared at Stalingrad ! Haunting !

      I don't recall seeing the memorial when we were in Coburg. What an unfortunate history for everyone involved. What did you think of Coburg? Thanks for watching!

      @@searchingforhistory Great. When I visited in 1969 it was close to the border with East Germany. As an Army PFC I didn't have a lot of money to spend but enjoyed the Castle and other sites. I like archetecture and it has many interesting buildings.

      @@joedeegan3870 I wonder how much it has changed since 1969. The architecture is definitely a big part of what draws us to Germany. Thank you for your service!

      Erin and I first visited Coburg in 2015. We were amazed at its beauty. Our goal for going back was to video more of the Coburg's old town. Next Sunday our video is about Coburg's fortress. The fortress together with Coburg's old town makes for incredible sightseeing.

    "Lord of the dance" - Why did you choose an Irish Music?

    • @searchingforhistory
      @searchingforhistory  23 дня назад +1

      I did? The song choices are basically the best fitting I could find from the RUclips Audio Library (which is limited). I am curious which song are you talking about? Do you know the time stamp? Thanks for watching!

      @@searchingforhistory Lord of the dance is the first melody of your superbe video. I like it but it's irish and doesn't really match with Coburg.

      @@eye347 Thats interesting, it is called, "Simple Gifts" in the RUclips Audio Library. I did not know it was Irish! We are glad you liked the video! Now that I am listening to it again as I write this, I can hear how it could be Irish.
