in the chorus riff progression you need to add a lower 4th to the first 2 chords.. a low G on the C chord and a low F on the Bflat chord then play the 3rd chord on the 6th fret on the E string the exact way you play it on the 5th string and then you'll be playing it correctly.. all the other examples are spot on.. also your tuning isn't correct according to Dime's own tech.. He said they tuned to E flat at 445.. I hear it as Standard at 427. Each album has a different tuning so it really is a lot to keep a track of. I did a Pantera tribute band for a long long time and spent a solid year learning and finding out all I could on his note choices.. another song that most play wrong is from Vulgar and the No Good (Attack the Radical)... that one is one of the very few songs in drop D tuning..

  • @ricohgill6523
    @ricohgill6523 Год назад +1

I wouldn't be surprised if Dime got the bend by pressing toward the fretboard (if you look at your fretting hand when you play a note, you almost never get the string to touch the actual wood when you play a note, the note occurs when the string is depressed between the two metal frets), as opposed to up/down the frets like basically everyone else does. Similar to using a scalloped fretboard, except it's a normal fretboard - at the first fret you have more action to play with..

      Hey man,
Not at all! I installed a tremolo block there so in case if I block it, I can tune it without dealing with the floyd, and was just lazy to put back the nut keys or what ... so it's for that kind of ringing that happens much more without those engaged.
But regardless I'd put those electrical tapes there to make sure there's no ringing, which can occur even if it's locked (it does more with certain guitars/nuts)

Thanks man! This guitar has EMG Retro active Hot 70 or Super 77 set in it (don't remember which one to be honest :)). The other one is in my Schecter Dimebolt, and I usually use the same settings for both, so even if there's some difference (which there is), it's not that much.
BUT, what I've found really crucial to achive Dime's tones the closest are the followings:
      - No1: the proper IR - in this case it's Ola's Dimebag IR which I bought via olaenglundshop.com
      - No2: some graphic EQ in front (before amp) to push the gain. It gives a certain kind of attack plus high ends (on top of adding lots of gain), which helps immensely shaping the tone the right way
      - No3: pre EQ-ing. This is also a very important step (probably the most important after the cabinet / IR choice). I usually oush it around 300-400, and cut it around 1200-1400, raise it around 3-4000... really depending on the guitar.
I will do a proper video on how I do it in the future.

I did rethink that, and my bet is that it,s the bass that plays a powerchord that gives that effect. That is how I hear it.

I hardly play anything right and tend to miss out stuff my brain rejects which then becomes harder to replace over time...

It's still wrong, not the half step and upstroke part but it's actually a pre bend, you start with a 1/4 note bend and upstroke then release it with a little vibrato.
Dime used upstrokes more than people think, it's sort of like the riff from cowboys, he uses muted upstrokes on the open E & G notes and down strokes on the A power chord to make it sound chunkier.

Indeed it is a prebend, which I did not emphasise. I was pointing out the mistake of bending it too much.

You are missing 2 key things.ost importantly than even the up strokes is this he actually picks down alternately out of 4 strokes 1 is down as an example. But the best part is this you should also ad pick scraping on the up strokes he has even said this in his clinics

U want to emphasize everything, especially on the 1-0, like instead of vibrato just pull off on the 1st fret enough for u to flick it to open d w the slightest released bend possible. Like ur almost bending just enough for ur 1st finger to play the open d instead of picking.

I don't think it was a bend at all. I think it was a hard press. Like he put his finger in the middle of the fret and pressed down until the string contacted the fret board bringing the pitch slightly high.
