i am watchting this since 2 hours now ... and i will definitely nnto fal,f faslsleefeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Challenge accepted! Heard from other channels you politely decline offers to do friendly rival matches. Hopefully that is not a permanent decision, as I believe we would all enjoy watching that!
I hope things are going better. It feels kind of cold right now, in such a lonely time (not just with quarantine, the world in general feels like it's gotten a little lonlier) - but the sun'll rise again soon.
2:03:00 Did not expect this at all. Was just about to fall asleep to this until I heard my name. Forgot I showed up for this one. Oh well, no harm in rewatching these!
On 1:39:33 ish, instead of exchanging bishops, is it ok to move bishop to h3? (15 bh3) Is there anything wrong with that? I'm just trying to get better with tactics, love your commentary ;)
Really like your videos. Best on You Tube. Especially like your longer games. There's so much explanation you do. You're not just saying "I'm gonna go Nc6". You're much better than the other guys at saying WHY you're going Nc6. Keep up the good work. Love the long games and Loved your WCC analysis. Fantastic work.
That first and second games, especially, were beautiful. Great video, Jerry. You did kinda have that loss in game four coming, though. You got behind on the clock when he started with half the time. xD Nice job punishing that guy who made like 20 pawn moves, though! It always seems like those guys know they're playing terribly but try to catch you off guard by playing provocatively and quickly, so it's nice to teach them a lesson. I can't believe that guy let you play an Opera House style game. That was hilarious.
That game that ended at 1:16:42 was the only really bad loss in this one. The guy berzerked, took a time lead, then Jerry missed mate in 1. It's good to know he has down games like the rest of us :)
I really enjoy watching this tournament. It's very easy to follow along with your thought process and also allows me a chance to possibly think about the moves I would make in some of these positions. 10/10 would watch again.
@ 59:30 , I had to have said "wow" out loud about 10 times and rewind a few times to fully appreciate how good a move 23. c4 was... Phenomenal move, shutting down any counterplay on the a8-h1 diagonal in two ways: taking the queen off guard duty and reinforcing d5 while at the same time allowing you to recapture the bishop if the knight gets taken first. Amazing! (also those bishops cutting through b8-h2 and c8-h3 diagonal are devastating!) By the way, @ 24:14 , you mentioned just before that he had to move to Rd4 and that it was clumsy. Could you tell me why you didn't follow it up with Be3, Rb4, a3 and the rook is trapped? The only thing I see is Rxf4, Bxf4 and Qxf4+. Is this why you didn't allow it?
At 20:20, I saw the move h6 for White and if Black's g pawn flinches it could be met with Nd5 a discovered attack on the queen and threatens to win the black knight on f6. Also, if Qd8 then Nxf6# :P
I watched the entire video in a row could not stop watching. At the beginning I was wondering how the other players got so many games finished while you won all games and wasn't even in the top 20. But I am happy you made the first place ^_^ I love your videos and you have a nice voice, keep the good work up! Greetings from Germany/Greece/Russia
I don't know what it was, but at 1:31:00 I smelled an engine. Maybe it was the fast moves, maybe it was the high number of games with a long string of wins, maybe it was a combination of all of it.
This was a great watch! Well done video jerry. Not as action packed as the bullet or blitz tournaments but it's a nice to see more of your strategic abilities.
Qxg2 at the end of it seems quite strong for black. I suppose a positional player like jerry would not like to even consider that option because of the complications. It'd be a mess.
9:12 why is Qc3 Nf4 annoying? Don't you straight up win a piece with e6+? And the black queen has to recapture the pawn next move so you're free to do whatever.
Remember Jerry has just been watching the world Championships, so these 10 minute games must feel like hyperbullet. Good stuff as always Jerry, glad to see that berserk button is working properly.
Jerry you played better or achieved more in beserk mode.. i guess this was a classical example of overthinking it...when you played perfect moves you were ranked 30th something and when you gone wild with juts automatic moves you were no 1 in no time
Awesome commentary! Have been looking for someone that is playing classic games and explain the thoughts why to make the moves, in order to improve my own chess skill :) Thanks!
The second game felt almost like a game of Arimaa at the end, especially from 26:00 to 27:30. 28:14 And he has, in Arimaa terms, the strongest free piece. :D
Jerry I know this video is 5 years old but I'm wondering if afterward you looked back at any of the potential discovered attacks on the queen (game 2) - there's some really interesting lines.
Hmm, I think it has alot to do with the fact that 10 minutes seems to be the standart amount of times most players run with. 1+ Hour chess games are indeed classical games, most often, but I still think 10 minute games could be concidered classical. Not sure really.
Samuel Young well in online chess, the most time people are willing to spend in one game is 15 15 increment. I myself cant play games longer than 10 minutes online.
Happy to see lichess taking an active stance against engine use ingame. I wanted to learn and practice whatever ive learned by playing in longer time controls, but was scared the everyone just uses an engine in longer time controls. Now i can play in peace.
That was amazing watching you hop your way to first place... I did NOT see that coming at ALL. You're lucky that your last few opponents didn't know the subtle art of zhe nona frryyy 👻
+ChessNetwork - I'm a few days late, but... congratulations on winning this, Jerry! That was very entertaining! :D Question: As a competitive strategy for winning, do you think starting the tournament out with a few games in berserk mode and then trying to maintain that lead? Whaddaya think?
What's amazing is that Jerry seemed to do much better when he was berserking his opponents with speed chess than when he was taking his time deeply contemplating moves. Maybe this is because people feel pressure when their opponent is playing quickly and try to match their opponent's cadence rather than keeping track of their own clock? If Jerry berserked against me you'd better believe that I would take every last second of my time advantage (and still lose :-) )
If you make it through this video without falling asleep, well done! :D
i am watchting this since 2 hours now ... and i will definitely nnto fal,f faslsleefeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I have a hard time falling asleep sometimes, so it actually helps when you post videos like these.
1.25 speed is great for this tourny :)
1.25 Just sounds like Jerry took a bit too much caffeine before playing.
Challenge accepted! Heard from other channels you politely decline offers to do friendly rival matches. Hopefully that is not a permanent decision, as I believe we would all enjoy watching that!
I find falling asleep to Jerrys' voice very relaxing. Very smooth, also thinking about chess as I fall into a deep slumber is nice.
haha yes I agree. It is not an insult but I fall asleep to jerry playing chess all the time now. lol. It is great.
"I'll watch one more game, and then I'll go to bed." -- A lie I told myself repeatedly last night.
lol :)
This helps me fight my loneliness and sadness through the day. Thanks Jerry.
People on the internet are always here for you man! Uploading chessvideos to entertain you even!
I totally understand what you 're talking about. Given the amount of likes you get with your post; a lot of peole do.
I hope things are going better. It feels kind of cold right now, in such a lonely time (not just with quarantine, the world in general feels like it's gotten a little lonlier) - but the sun'll rise again soon.
doing better now?
2:03:00 Did not expect this at all. Was just about to fall asleep to this until I heard my name. Forgot I showed up for this one. Oh well, no harm in rewatching these!
Haha :)
Omg, that tsunami of pawns in the first game was so fun to watch!!!
23:05 -- that moment when Jerry breaks your ankles so hard it looks like you're playing chess960
How that opponent did not resign sooner impresses me. That must have been unbearable to play.
"Should I allow triple pawns?" lol
Hahaha Jerry, you're so funny. "There's your recap"
we should ask Jerry for some more recaps hahahaha.
More of this!! I love it when you tubers play longer time controls
Thanks, I much prefer to watch the slower ones, as I get a chance myself to workout whats going on!
On 1:39:33 ish, instead of exchanging bishops, is it ok to move bishop to h3? (15 bh3) Is there anything wrong with that? I'm just trying to get better with tactics, love your commentary ;)

I really enjoy watching this tournament. It's very easy to follow along with your thought process and also allows me a chance to possibly think about the moves I would make in some of these positions. 10/10 would watch again.
I watched this 4 years ago. Yet I found something productive with my more understanding of positions four years later.
I love when you play fearless like in those finale games!
What happened to Jackroyal at 1:12:19? Removed for using an engine?
At 20:20, I saw the move h6 for White and if Black's g pawn flinches it could be met with Nd5 a discovered attack on the queen and threatens to win the black knight on f6. Also, if Qd8 then Nxf6# :P
What a comeback!
Thanks for curing my insomnia
53:30 how was it a mistake to take with the Q, if you moved your Q to A3 he could love his to B7?
At 18:32 can't Jerry win the knight with something like nd5?
I watched the entire video in a row could not stop watching. At the beginning I was wondering how the other players got so many games finished while you won all games and wasn't even in the top 20. But I am happy you made the first place ^_^
I love your videos and you have a nice voice, keep the good work up!
Greetings from Germany/Greece/Russia
I appreciate your videos. They are so educational and entertaining. You are never boring.
At 24:20, can’t jerry trap the rook with Be3, the rook has to go to b4, and then a3 and the rook has no squares?
wow, what a finish. well played :)
was fun to watch, great show as always!
Jerry, this slower time control was amazing to watch, would love to see you do more
Thanks Jerry, I learn a ton as you talk your way through these longer time controls!
This time control does wonders for your commentary! Terrific video, Jerry
Hey, Jerry. Really enjoyed watching you play this tournament. I will definitely watch more if you do another one!
I love classical and rapid games with commentaries. Simply the best way to learn chess.
Fun tournament. Enjoyed the 10 min. time control. Congrats on squeezing in at number 1 in the end!
1:05:50 Nxg5 i thought it was good Qxg5 and then Bxh5 i wonder if there is something wrong with that.
Qxg2 at the end of it seems quite strong for black. I suppose a positional player like jerry would not like to even consider that option because of the complications. It'd be a mess.
Ah ok thanks i didn't calculate deep enough.
After three nights of falling asleep watching this, I finally made it! Watched the full thing lol :))
Why, at 35:21, didn't he just play dxe, threatening the rook on a1?
wondering this as well.
Ditto
This was really educational for me. Please put out more videos like this.
Talk about coming from behind! Did not expect that finish. Great tournament!
I'm sure I watched this one before, but forgot all the positions and points, so it was like new again. Great finish!
At 18:30, you could play 8. Nb5! Qd8 9. Qxe5 cxb5 10. Bxb5+ and you're a pawn up.
Nd5 Qd8 Nxf7+ exf7 f4 seems better winning the knight
38FerreroX Nd5 Qd8 Nxf7 gxf7 is fine for black.
Total blind spot on my side ^^ true
Wicked win, Jezza. You rocked it by the end.
23:04 damn black is so lazy he's setting up for the next game.
nice commentary and interesting tournament. I could watch you playing classic games forever! very instructive. thnx
Nice going Jerry! That was very entertaining.
Really enjoyed this video. Will watch this one more than once.
Someone made a Hearthstone joke around the 3rd match I think. Was great hearing you say it and thanks for uploading this.
2:21:05 Take with the bish and then knight F2 with the pin of a queen and rook?
22:10 isn't Ne4 crushing? Kicking the queen and if queen goes to d8 there's mate with Nd6#
1:16:45 Yay you made me feel like less of an idiot for missing all those mate in 1's ❤️
Jerry you played better or achieved more in beserk mode.. i guess this was a classical example of overthinking it...when you played perfect moves you were ranked 30th something and when you gone wild with juts automatic moves you were no 1 in no time
love the video watched pretty much the whole thing. hope I can catch one of your streams eventually
It's awesome to watch you play blitz instead of bullet, upload more of these please!!
Awesome commentary! Have been looking for someone that is playing classic games and explain the thoughts why to make the moves, in order to improve my own chess skill :) Thanks!
What an entertaining, surprising, come-from-behind win!
The second game felt almost like a game of Arimaa at the end, especially from 26:00 to 27:30. 28:14 And he has, in Arimaa terms, the strongest free piece. :D
I saw this live on twitch- a crazy ending to this tournament : ), worth watching!
Thanks for the upload, I like the 10|0 time controls a lot!
That was an awesome last few games, well done!
haha those recaps really cracked me up! :D
At 18:38 is there a tactic with knight to B5 or D5? Looks like it's working but I can't tell if I'm missing something
"I wasn't even shooting for first place...". Nonsense!
14:30 "There's no rush with this position"
This is definitely not Jerry's style of tournament, he only moves fast when he has to (which I love).
He meant rush tempo wise but still
24:40 move queen to F2, he moves rook, then bishop to F4 queen gone.
i lvoe how you walk through your thought process with every move, really insightful and helpful!
Jerry I know this video is 5 years old but I'm wondering if afterward you looked back at any of the potential discovered attacks on the queen (game 2) - there's some really interesting lines.
It's so bizarre that they're calling 10 minute games "classical". Generally classical is 1+ hours.
Hmm, I think it has alot to do with the fact that 10 minutes seems to be the standart amount of times most players run with. 1+ Hour chess games are indeed classical games, most often, but I still think 10 minute games could be concidered classical. Not sure really.

Really nice and entertaining video Jerry Thanks!! :)
Thanks for these videos. I am learning a lot from these.
the bullet is more entertaining, but I learn a lot more at this speed.
"Four queens?" That gave me a chuckle.
Happy to see lichess taking an active stance against engine use ingame. I wanted to learn and practice whatever ive learned by playing in longer time controls, but was scared the everyone just uses an engine in longer time controls. Now i can play in peace.
Well done Jerry - master class. 1st looks good, eh? I'm booking you in to play Carlsen next( get the easy ones over)
Love your Channel! Keep up the videos, please!!!
That second game was awesomely aesthetic!
I thought play that tournament, but I slept in that moment. Good video as always, Jerry.
Great play, Jerry!
Alejandro went berserk, still got ahead on time, and won. Nice game by that player, gotta commend that!
how often do you do those warzone type tournaments...I love those thirty minute bids and watch a few everyday.
That was a long time ago.
2.5 hours!? Can't wait :)
That was amazing watching you hop your way to first place... I did NOT see that coming at ALL. You're lucky that your last few opponents didn't know the subtle art of zhe nona frryyy 👻
Love it. Love everything about it.
17:00 - 28:52 is a really nice game.
Netenya, move 26: bishop E4 check, rook takes, then Queen check, taking the rook back
I was waiting for daily clasical arena , finally it is coming !! and then i will waiting jery play blindfolded on lichess :)
The engine cheat was 1st by a long way before he was kicked, 40 to 2nd place's 28
+ChessNetwork - I'm a few days late, but... congratulations on winning this, Jerry! That was very entertaining! :D
Question: As a competitive strategy for winning, do you think starting the tournament out with a few games in berserk mode and then trying to maintain that lead? Whaddaya think?
Dan-The-Man if you stay low you get easier opponents...
At 1:39:31, bishop to h3 would have been a game winning move
17:30 I did trained that position with chess position trainer! And I was screaming for the next best move :p
All right, I'll bite: what's Morphy's Opera game?
The lurker tournament strategy never fails^^
What's amazing is that Jerry seemed to do much better when he was berserking his opponents with speed chess than when he was taking his time deeply contemplating moves. hello jerry!
Hello Javier! :)
Whoa never been so early before XD you are the best jerry
I will reserve this video for some night when I can't sleep. 2 hours+ of classic chess works better than sleeping pills.
