For sure to pass inspection you will have to put a muffler on it they wont pass it with a straight pipe.....Save that and the Wheelie bars for after inspection 😜
Should be cool, those old Harley Davidson carts are cool. The engine actually runs in reverse as well as forward. My Sister's Ex boyfriend had one. Not especially fast or torquey but it got the job done. Assuming the engine was good, it would have made a nice small motor for a smaller cart with no need for a reverse kit. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
I used a Honda 150cc with reverse from a ATV 3 wheeler on a Ez-go.It sits in perfectly and you have the option of the reverse as well! Good luck with your project and when I get further along I will send you some pictures, Mike
I don’t think there’s any vids of it he’s in his 60s lol but when I go to my moms next I could ask him if I could do a video of it, don’t know if we’ll be able to drive it tho because we got a shit tone of snow right now

I’ve also got an old crusty 36v electric golf cart but needing help converting it to gas and with a 440cc eBay bought 18hp DuroMax horizontal shaft engine stock atm Seriously looking forward to this build you guys gonna do!!!! Thanks again
We used an EZGO for an aircraft tug at work for over 10 years. It got worked hard but we lost a few diffs. I would suggest a live axle mounted to the leaf springs. Ours was stock all electric.
I second that. Worked great for me as well. We would even pull 3 or 4 hooked together and fully loaded (the six foot ones) across the base at Lockheed back and forth for years. Had to be several miles each way, but it held up nicely. We did have to replace the batteries a couple of times though... We ended up getting a gas powered "Mule" with AC and heat RIGHT BEFORE THEY CHANGED THE RULES, NO GAS POWERED VEHICLES IN THE TUNNELS... But we made it work.
You should have run a lap of the Cars and Cameras Grand Prix to get a baseline with that drill! Exciting project guys, can’t wait to see how this turns out!
I use to run the machines that made that golf carts rear end housing! We made them for both electric and gas, and also rear end housings for Gators and RZR's! Just funny to see again
What I did for snowmobile motor golf cart is I lathed down a atv rear axles for spots for pillow block bearings, nice thing about that is you can use atv hubs and wheels, cheap and wide selection for sprockets and a huge brake rotor
I think the gearing on that axle is 12.44:1. So at the stock motor 3k rpm of the golf cart it would max out around 12-13mph. I did this once but made a larger diameter sprocket to the tav2 and installed the smallest one on the axle.
I just built a 420 powered club car ds, I'm not sure how the ez go rear end is but I cut the plates and windings off the armature of my motor, and turned the splined shaft down to an inch and used a pillow bearing to hold the other end. I did have to unbolt the center chunk and spin it around to get my engine offset right.
Nice build so far, was confused when you pulled apart electric motor but now i understand, although not my preferred way of doing it. Each to there own

I restored one of those HD 3-wheel golf carts, (The EXACT same model) it has a 200cc two-stroke motor made by "Hummer" (not the Jeep-thing nowadays) But Hummer of Sweden or Denmark or something? Anyways, the timing is set to Zero degrees on the points, so it runs normal, then when you want reverse, you shut the motor down, and flip a switch and it starts backwards and will run just as fast in reverse as it does forwards! I have tons of spares here for your AMF three wheeler if you want them for yours, say the word - Cables, carb rebuild kits, etc.....
I have a 99 yamaha g16e I have been converting to gas thanks to you guys I was able to use a few of ur ideas to get mine on the road been waiting for this build for some time I will post some pics on ur wall on garage amino
I love this channel ... nothing pleases me more than watching you learn, hands on, using the "it will be fine" method. That said, I really wish you would have done some homework on the electric motor, which I am confident would run, before you s-canned it. 4 batteries 13.2 volts X 4 = 52.8 volts. 1 used industrial motor controller 48 Volts 400 Amps. Your motor which was fine... okay 52.8 Volts X 400 Amps = 21,120 watts. Since you guys like horsepower, 749 watts is 1 hp so you s-canned 21,120 watts divided by 749 is OMG! 28.19 horsepower (at 0-1 RPM I might add). Don't cry, I have been doing that for you... but please before you s-can another electric motor go to K1 racing and try the electric go karts *I'm buying if you come to Phoenix. Whew, had to get that off my chest. Thanks for reading.
Pretty cool. I'm designing a wheelbarrow go kart using an old electric three wheel golf cart axle and steering box set up. I have a 22 horsepower Kawasaki horizontal shaft vtwin that I'm using. Mine is quite a bit different in design from what you guys are doing, but some of ideas could be applied to your cart I think. I'm coming directly off the engine into a right angle gearbox, down through the chassis. From there I'm running a belt drive setup to a peerless transmission that is clocked 90°, so that the output shafts run parallel to the frame rails, and perpendicular to the rear axle. This gives the same final drive configuration that the original cart had, and gives the cart the same setup that a rear wheel drive car has. The belt setup will contain the clutch, which is similar to that of a riding mower clutch. The pulley on the right angle gearbox will be 8 1/2", and the transaxle pulley will be 2 1/2-3" in diameter making for a very high speed potentially. The front output shaft of the transaxle will be pillow blocked to a hand fabricated crossmember. The rear output shaft will be connected to the rear rear axle by u joints and a small shaft. The rear suspension is still being designed. I'm tossing around a few different ideas.
Be careful of the lawnmower transacted. They work fine for low loads and higher speeds but low gearing and heavy loads they will slip the fingers on the gears no matter how hard you hold them in gear. I have a 3 wheel Harly conversion almost identical to the junkyard beauty of Ikes friend. It was to be used as a mule to pull a dump trailer but three things made it fail. 1, the transmission slipping out of gear going downhill under load. 2, it's almost impossible to fit brakes to the Harly electric as the brake is on the end of the motor and there is no room on the ends of the axle 3, the rear is a swing axle, so anything you build will have to clear the frame above. There's not as much room as it looks. If you use a mower axle make sure you have brakes on the axle itself in case it jumps out of gear...
Thanks. The transaxle, is only going to be used a transmission. The rear axle of the golf cart is gonna be modified and reused. And I'm building the frame from scratch. But I do appreciate the information. I'm just an amateur builder, who loves designing and building silly stuff. I've also got a crazy racing mower that needs to be rebuilt.
I *think* you would need to put current though the field winding AND the armature windings on a motor with 4 wires. That may have been the case but it was not clear from the view of the camera.
