    Amazing video. Jam packed info. Kudos. Thanks for sharing. I’ll share my experience with decathlon recently with their ‘Trek 100’ shoes. The sole of this particular shoes are of bad quality. After investing 5k I was expecting them to last long enough. But within 3 years (Post warranty) the sole completely ripped off in pieces. Now there are completely useless as decathlon does not offer any repair nor they were apologetic for selling such poor quality shoes when confronted in store. Not just me even my 7/8 cousins we all had bought the same shoes together before going for Sarpass Trek in May 2018 everyone’s shoes are useless now. Imagine the kind of money they made. So I will recommend either save money and go for higher brands such as Columbia, north face, etc or buy cheap ones so it doesn’t make you regret even if the shoes tear apart. This is video is has all the info one needs before buying trekking or hiking shoes. As said shoes are the most Important for your any trek.

    Hi, I will be trekking in the sahyadri for the first time this august. Do u think action trekking high ankle shoes will have sufficient grip...I'm especially concerned about grip on wet rocks and slush..More so on the irshalgad trek...I suppose kalavantin would be too risky for monsoons

    • @CaptainParbat
      @CaptainParbat  6 лет назад +1

      Action Trekking work like a charm in the Sahyadri.. before doing kalavantin or irshal, use the shoes in the city for a few days.. kalavantin can be done in the Monsoons too but with an experienced team.. else, Nov to Feb is the best time to visit Kalavantin...

      @CaptainParbat  4 года назад

      In a medium price range of 4k to 7k, we only have Decathlon right now. . So go for it.. if you have a higher budget, then Salomons are wonderful! But use them for cross country and Himalayan treks.. as their rubber do not give that great a grip on basalt wet rock.
      Salomons you can get at adventure equipment shops.. or atleast they can help you by ordering it. I suggest do not go for online . As there might be fake ones.

      For non snow treks, nothing beats action trekking.. but if you're fine in the jungle boots, why change? Quechua ideally should be used for low altitude Himalayan treks.. they don't really have good grip on wet basalt.. it's the comfort..

      Yep.. won't be heavy.. go for it.. and it will matter only for the 1st few treks.. then, your muscle memory kicks in and you won't even think about the weight.. so go for it..

    I am a regular trekker in Sahyadri range. I had been using action trekking for several years until I found a better option, 'Gold star'.
    More durable than action trekking (15+ treks, including monsoon treks, still hasn't torn, and I ain't kidding) better grip than action trekking, be it wet rocky patch or high gradient surface with scree, more comfortable than action trekking (at least for first 6-7 treks) and cheapest of them all (300₹).
    Try for 3-4 different Treks in sahyadri for different seasons. I guarantee that you will fall in love with them and do entire video dedicated to these shoes.
    If safety is your biggest concern during treks, switch to these shoes, there's no option with such a good grip (maybe, certain types of canvas shoes) even in little higher price range.
    Only drawback is the authentic ones are really hard to find (fortunately, I know the place where they are available)

      @CaptainParbat  5 лет назад +1

      Authentic Gold Star? I really had a bad experience with them early in my career..
      But I'd love to try them now that an experienced trekker is saying this.. :)
      Thanks for this info mate ✌️
      Where will I get them?

      @@CaptainParbat I understand your sarcasm about authentic gold star. Actually the one I have been using is light weight with rubber sole. This one comes under different names like gold star, unistar, Border etc. There are other shoes named as Gold Star which are heavy and come with hard sole. This particular one I think is not authentic and not useful for treks.

    • @CaptainParbat

      Hi Pranjal, Yes the shoes are authentic. Salomon is a subsidiary of Amer Sports which has recently started Indian Operations at Delhi with Mr. Ankur Srivastava as the Business Development Head. Till a few months back, Hindustan Army Store used to get the Salomon to India.

      For a traveller + hiker, the waterproof model of Bata Power is great.. comfortable and good grip....
      But if you travel a lot where walking (sight seeing) is involved, more than hiking, then pure walking shoes of Adidas or Nike are the best..

      Grip isn't really important in small Himalayan treks.. it's mostly walking.. i too have used woodland a lot.. but their weight and the grip are too negative..
      They are absolutely useless on basalt rock.. try the action trekking.. and see the way you can jump around like spiderman not worrying a bit about any slips...

    • @CaptainParbat
      @CaptainParbat  4 года назад

      Depends.. it's a pretty decent pair.. but not waterproof... So if you have more than 4 days of snow walking, better go for Quechua.. keeping the feet warm, is more important than grip on a Himalayan trek.
