  • Shoes are one of the most important equipment on a trek. From a small day hike to a high altitude trek and even expeditions, the right kind of shoe matters. Our daily wear sports, casuals and formal shoes will not last on treks. Trekking shoes are made and manufactured keeping in mind the different types of terrain, weather and many other factors.
One needs to keep a lot of things in mind before choosing the right kind of shoe. The terrain, min temp, max temp, exposure to mud & slush, water bodies, direct sunlight, scree, soft snow, hard ice, rains, moraines, river crossings, rocks & boulders etc. There is no one type or brand of shoe that could last for all. So depending upon the area/ region you are trekking in, invest in the shoe.
What to keep in mind before investing in shoes -
    1. High Ankle shoe
    2. Water resistant shoe
    3. 0.5 to 1 size bigger than your normal size
    4. Avoid filters by putting doctor tape on the feet and at the back of the shoe.

Waterproof shoes once the get wet they don't dry , it takes at least two to three days, no doubt while crossing streams water is going to get inside the shoes, water resistant shoe is a better option

Have experienced it with my forclaz shoes .
The max they can endure is a puddle or light shower.
But 95% of the time water goes inside and I use a hair dryer to dry it out ..
This time I am purchasing waterproof socks instead..

Hi Rishabh ... this is a classic debate going on for sometime. To keep it short - Hiking boots score much higher in terms of Durability, Foot and ankle protection and can be used in multiple terrains (Slough off mud, snow and water). but certainly they are heavy and they need a break-in period. On the downside, they are bulky and heavy. They last for longer time periods for sure.

Hello - For Chadar trek specifically, we suggest that you buy shoes from LEH (gum boots) as all other trekking shoes won't work on the Chadar Trek and slip since you are walking on ice. For other treks including snow treks, Salomon is a good shoe to invest in.

There is nothing called anti slipping shoe ... what you get is a good sole choose friction level is higher. They are called Viaram sole. Vibram soles are the first shoe sole ever created with a rubber lug sole. It takes its name from the Italian word for “tank tread” as both work on a similar mechanism where, through its firm indentations, the grip is created. You can find them at a good price in Decathlon stores.

We are comfortable with it. Sometimes, some brands are comfortable for some and not that comfortable for some. Over a period of time you have to find and invest in the one that you are comfortable in.

I trekked the whole of dunagiri mountain on chappal. Believe me it was a wonderful experience . I climbed up the mountain with chappal and climbed down the mountain with naked feet. 😂😂😂 Even my friend did the same. At that time we were just laughing at ourselves.

LOL .. Nah! Its just that Saran is 6ft 4 in and then has a turnban that I guess adds about 3 / 4 inches to his height. Where as Lokes is 5ft 8in and has 2 ft long pony tail. :-) They are the founding members of www.wanderers.in
