  • Hyundai adds a dollop of refinement to its compact crossover, which should make buyers (and the competition) take notice.

    Tom always covers the important points...and I like the looks of the Tucson...more premium than it's competitors.

    10 years ago, I'd laugh at people who suggest to me to buy a Hyundai but this is a game changer. Love it in Australia.

    CRV- reliability and cargo space
    Tucson - style, features for the price, warranty
    CX-5 - sporty handling and steering feel
    Escape -Well rounded but not a stand out in any category
    New Sportage - A Tucson with some guts in the engine bay and sharper handling.

    Tom,
    I love the funky intro music you've been using lately. As a bass guitar player, I appreciate that opening bassline. Great review as always for this Tucson. I'm a big fan of this updated redesign.

    Alex on Autos reported a 0-60 time of 7.2 seconds. I admit that seems optimistic, but with a dual clutch and the light weight it sounded possible. Quite a difference from 8.5. By the way, Hyundai did a software update on this transmission to eliminate the low speed problems in early 2016.

    Hyundai's that cost $35k.....F-150's that cost $60k...you have to wonder how long it will be before buying a new car will be like taking out a 30 year home mortgage. But maybe that's what the banks and car companies want =)

      +Christopher .WalkenPNW We're going to be moving away from private car ownership. GM investing millions in lyft, the google koala autonomous car, Tesla and Uber, the list goes on. They'll just be wondering around and then you hail one when you need to go somewhere.

      +headcas620 dream on. as long as people commute to work, they'll require private ownership.

      +Christopher .WalkenPNW 1. Inflation keeps marching despite the government telling you it isn't.
      2. Features: You can get a version equipped like suvs were 10 years ago for $25,000. These are loaded with luxury car features now.

    The heated steering wheel might've come included on the Limited trim in 2017 with Ultimate Package but I know that it's now standard on the Limited trim for 2018

    Hyundai and Kia really turned it around in '15/16'/17' . . . The Tucson and the Sorento are definitely on my radar now when I start looking for a four or five year old vehicle to replace my present drive.

    I always wonder about the moonroof, it looks nice. Does it have the potential to leak though? And would that sort of thing be covered by warranty.? That should really be optional.

    Cool choice however. 👍🏻

    The 7-speed double-clutch on a crossover? Only if you never leave the pavement. I think that even a CVT would be a better choice.

    Been subscribed for a long time and Absolutely love your reviews Tom but I have to finally speak up about the one huge negative to your videos- Enough nannying about the test driving already. If we're looking for a car we're adults, if we're adults we are responsible for what we do with our money.
    Your reviews are some of the best on the web but I would love to watch one to the end without feeling like my mom just gave me a lecture. Although I am getting pretty good at stopping the video as you say ,"Remember, if you're looking for a car..."

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  8 лет назад +2

      +youdollpete Thanks for the kind words but sorry, you'll have to endure my "mom mode", at least occasionally.
      As the years have passed by and more people recognize me and want to talk cars (let me take a moment to thank my lovely wife for her patience here) I find it astonishing how many buyers do little to no research. Seriously. None. At. All. They simply go back to the store where they bought their last (insert car brand here) and buy another. One guy actually admitted to me that he bought a car from a dealer on the phone without test driving it and has been trying to return it because it doesn't have the performance he wants. And nearly every review of it says it's glacially slow.
      I've received a number of emails from people who listened to my message and were surprised to find how things have changed. Please remember I'm not just catering to the enthusiasts, I'm also trying to include those who don't know much about cars too. I'm trying to get people to think holistically about their vehicles. Perhaps I care too much, but maybe that's the reason why people like my pieces so much.
      Thanks for writing!

  • @DrewFu319

    I'm always a little mystified about why you hit the "test drive!!1" mantra so hard, Tom. It should be obvious... Is there a recent epidemic of people buying cars like Amazon products lately, without comparing in person?

    • @weedmastersr
      @weedmastersr 8 лет назад +3

      +Drew Furney Yes. It is. And many are just blind loyalists of a single brand and only buy that brand for decades, without comparing its cars to the competition.

    • @drinkingthatkool-aid3193
      @drinkingthatkool-aid3193 8 лет назад

      +Protector of the Republic I agree. While Tom expresses that fact that drivers should test drive cars often, I also like that he compares and mentions the competition so drivers know what to cross shop with. It's very important.

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  8 лет назад +4

      +Drew Furney I can't tell you the amount of people I meet that stop at the first test drive (or just buy another Camry/Accord/F150 etc without test driving at all) because they think the buying process is a hassle. Heck, my father-in-law did it. Just went out one day and bought a Camry. I firmly believe (if you haven't figured it out) that people really cheat themselves by doing that.

    • @DrewFu319
      @DrewFu319 8 лет назад

      +Driven Car Reviews Fair enough. I guess I've always thought it an obvious step, rather like walking through a house before you buy it. Amazing what some are comfortable with.
      Great work on this, as always!

      +Driven Car Reviews that should be an indication of just how repellent auto dealers are to consumers. We'd pay $30k for a car that we haven't even test-driven just to avoid their sleazy tactics. Tesla has it right; dealers absolutely ruin the car buying experience and serve no purpose when we can research cars online, thanks to you and others.
