Great advice. I'm a mechanic of 27 years and I feel you covered the topic quite well for general maintenance. It's handy to know your vehicle and be able to do minor interval servicing. I only recommend that all vehicles be inspected for safety items like brakes, suspension and steering at least every 12 to 18 months by a qualified mechanic or sooner if you are giving it a hard time on rough roads. Well done though on a great video.
Hey K! For sure mate, tried to cover everything I normally subconsciously do without thinking about it and put that into words. I totoally agree with that one. I don’t mess with brakes and safety gear! Thanks K means a lot
Far out Keelan I swear word for word your instructions are the same my mechanic dad gave me years ago on how to service a vehicle, especially the 5 mins to recheck stuff. Great vid.
Hey Allan! Wow that’s great feedback! Means I’m doing something right! I have to give my old boy credit though he did teach me the right way! Cheers mate
Really good work. I’ve done the same with my 150 kept it stock to get the reliability out of the motor. I’ve just got the snorkel and the plate with 7mm hole. Am on the second set of injectors with 220.000 on the clock.
Thanks for the video Keelan! It takes the guess work out it and now am going to give it a go myself. You mentioned you cleaned out your intake manifold, what did you use to clean it? Cheers Steve. 🍻
Great video thanks,, Your Prado has the pre DLC injectors & has done 240k so I’d be looking to get them replaced sooner than later. I have a 2010 model & did this a couple years back.. Prados are great cars!
Hey Gordon! I totoally agree, I’m checking them every time I’m near a scan tool. At the moment they are reading as good as brand new ones all 4 feedback values around 0.2 to -0.2 Love my Prado and look after it even though it appears we beat it up a little haha
Awesome stuff Keelan, I'm hoping you do an egr clean video as I have the exact same 150 and want to do it myself. I'm always wigging about my injectors at 180k, you've given me some piece of mind knowing that you are at 240k. I might change them anyway though haha
Hey mate, I may do hey! It’s a big job but it’s worth doing! You have to have a lot of correct spammers and bendy sockets and things though! Probably best to change the injectors!! Thanks for commenting mate
Hi, great vid and great advice for home servicing. Random question, I noticed your second battery. I’m looking at adding one and we’ve got similar age Prados. How’d you tackle the aircon hose placement and what did you have to do to fit a battery there? I’m concerned that moving mine will damage it and it’s the last thing I want. Cheers!
Good video mate 👍🏻 I have a 2010 1kd stock as well. Just something I didn’t know was there is another small fuel filter down near the fuel tank which I change out every 10 thousand kms too. Keep up the good vids 🍻
Love the video. How do you rate your old 120 against the 150? I’m looking at a 2008 manual 120 for $13k, vs a 2009 auto 150 for $20k. They both have 300k kms. Is the 150 worth $7k more?
But a catch can is preventative isn't it? Can carbon gunk get into the engine and coat the valves etc? The intercooler too. It's good you have the second fuel filter.
It is! I just never have put one on. I’ve heard mixed reviews on them and what they can do to your valve clearances ect.. I’m sure they are great just havnt done it personally
good advice brother ... atm im driving a nissan dualis and they run an oil cooler to which the seal clags out. To replace the cooler costs an absolute fortune ... so when doin oil changes i buy 2 oil filters the cooler and the oil filter run the same damn seal and you cant buy the seal separately
Should of gone a Toyota mate haha 😂 Nissan make a good car! Every car has its Achilles heal and this sounds like yours! I’m sure it goes well apart from that aye Macka! Thanks again mate!
@@SarahandKeelanTravels nah i got it for a specific purpose ... i can get Mum in and out of it easier than the old 4by ... but its 2 litre 6 speed Manual (that desperately needs a scrub) 09 model so its ok
loved the video mate, just wanted to check if you’ve had any of the 1KD engine issues with injector/ piston failure, I’m keen to get one myself around 2009-2011 D4D model but have had a lot of mechanic minded mates say to go with the common rail patrol instead for that reason, would love to hear your opinion dude cheers!
Hey mate, I’ve only heard of that happening to one person. I’ve been apart of the “Prado community” for like 5 years now and on all the forums I’ve heard of it happening once to a vehicle that’s done 300k+ kms.. My first Prado had 250,000 on the clock had original injectors and was fine, this new Prado we have I had the injectors replaced and they were in mint condition coming out! I think you would be crazy to choose a grenade/kettle engine patrol over a Prado! Those 3L patrols have the worst reputation for over heating and cracking heads!
Hahah I would have to quickly go buy the ring, drop a knee and then plan the wedding hey?! There is some huge news coming up regarding the channel though so strap in mate!

yeah well done !! good to keep that air filter as a spare .... don't forget to check n fill the wiper fluid and put the lipstick on the tyres !!
Oh the wiper fluid forgot that one! Haha and tyre lipstick love it!! Haha 😂

You might want to do a cabin filter too after the Gibb
We did the cabin filter in kunnunara after the Gibb! You’re right though 100% needed it haha 😂

Gday Mr bede,
I was aware of this filter but didn’t actually know you had to change it every 10k
Thanks for the info mate! Cheers
catch can from day 1, 200k and next to zero oil in the intercooler, never had a dpf burn cycle either, maintenance is the key. 👍🛠🏎

Narh I’m not, I can clean the intake myself so I’ll just clean it again in 40,000 odd
