Great video and very comprehensive indeed - thank you. Just a small thing though, I filtered my Castrol Magnetec (through a funnel) before the oil passed into the engine. Managed to catch a few stray bits of green container waste from the opening "cut" for the spout. Probably not a huge problem but worth a mention.
Great video. Looks like you have an aftermarket an AC compressor mounted higher than stock one. Also it pays to look up into the sump through the drain hole to make sure the oil pickup strainer isn't blocked. This is a common problem with this motor and can cost you big $$$.
Mr. Winniliss .. not sure if you are still monitoring this post .. but if you are would you mind clarifying what you said at 4:23 .. "This vehicle ..??? is ??? to lift " and then at 4:29 ... "If you don't ??? ..." . I've tried playing back and listening many times but still can't make sense of what you are saying.. even the subtitles don't help. Thanks in advance.
@@winniliss Thank you very much Mr. Winniliss! I should have known better because the other car I own is a classic Citroen BX. I forgot that some Landcruisers, (higher end model), have a variable suspension height adjustment. In the UK the model that has it is the LC5 D4D. Anyway a very good video and a great reference for me and other Landcruiser owners so thank you very much for the video.
No worries Barry. With the right tools and parts anyone can do this job and save a bit of money. Of note with these engines it pays to check the oil pickup screen. You can see it just by shining a torch into the sump hole. It should be clean. If its not get your injectors check ASAP.
keep the drain pan close to the underside of the sump. There is a drain hose that runs from the oil filter down to the sump on the outside. When the sump has nearly finished draining undo the filter but not all the way
Matt Cleaver There is some differences with HIlux and the Prado engines. For example, the air filter, AC pump etc. Need to contact your Toyota dealer. Did you have a look on www.newhilux.net/ as an example.
Refer to your owners manual. I should state what viscosity to use ie. 15/40 or 5w/30 etc. I use 15w/40 because I live in the tropics. Coldest it gets her is about 14deg C but its mostly over 30deg C. Colder climates use 5w./30 or similar. Look at a semi synthetic oil as a minimum. you will need about 6.4 litres. Brand wise, stick with a leading brand. oil-change.info/toyota-avensis-engine-oil-capacity/ Hope this helps
+Nikola Dodig Hello mate. It depends on where you live and what engine you are using. The oil I am using is 15W 40 because I live in Darwin. The lower the number before the W the better cold starting you will have to reduce wear etc. So if I lived in Tasmania I might use 5W30. The numbers after the W is how thin the oil gets at 100c in simple terms. Having a diesel which runs hotter than a petrol (cylinder temps etc) and living in Tasmania maybe 30 but everywhere else 40 would be OK. There is also other factors like new engine verses old engine with a lot of KM may need a thicker oil. Seek good qualified advice from a local mechanic and get a second opinion.
Hey thanks a lot! 58 year old female changing oil on a 2009 Prado for first time and you make it so easy to follow. Cheers!

I use a Stanley knife when cutting the hole.

Its an air-compressor. I also have an inspection camera for the sump (on pradopoint forum as winniliss) for the blow back issue.
I've also heard this, thanks for the reminder.
Very good video. I found it very useful. Interestingly I use the same oil (Magnatec) but I use a 4W-40.
Darren Smith Glad I can help.
good video, learning makes it perfect when i do it myself no need of mechanics
Yes that's the best thing. And you know what quality of work is being done to your vehicle.

Hello, I said my vehicle has a 2in lift which allows me access without ramps. Standard lift you will need ramps, car stands.

Thanks very much for doing this Video.
I always get my Toyota serviced by Mechanics, but do a lot of off road driving.
Thanks again.
Steve.

which is the best coolant for corolla d4d 2004 ? what is the best way to replace the coolant to ensure no airlocks ?
Glad I can help. Saves yourself a few dollars doing it yourself.
do all the HIlux / Prado D4D's have the oil filter drain pipe? i cant seem to find mine (Hilux)
Any tips for not makin a mess when removing oil filter? Terrible design

I used 5W40 full synthetics From Total is that a probleme i see you are using a 15W40 !
Unless you live in cold climates (I live in the tropics) it won't be an issue
winniliss I live in Djibouti hottest country in the world thx for the advice
Just what I was looking for, thanks!!
Glad to help
Good video. I just did our hilux. Didn't have the toyota oil filter removal tool. It would be handy though..
sico The tool is very handy indeed. Not much room for anything else.
What about changing the fuel filter between the tanks? Do you replace that more frequently?
No, as per the servicing schedule.
Hi
How much tranmission oil does the vehicle take? I have a prado with a 4 speed how much oil does it need?
Edison Peguero Not sure mate. Mine is a manual. Refer to the owners manual. It should have the specs in their. If not give Toyota a call.
i have an 07 hilux D4D. will this video be reelvant to changing oil on hilux?

cheers mate. thanks for getting back to me and the link.
Hi mate, is that another fuel filter next to the toyota one ?
Yes a 30 micron/water separator. The Toyota one is about 7-10 micron
I have toyota d4d avesnis 2.0 (2002 year of production).. Which oil is best for that motor? I live in Hungary. Please answer.
