Yes indeed, I can remember it being out there on its own, visible from I-75. All that commercial clutter does make it seem secondary. I been by that place at least 100 times, never been in. Thanks for the look see.
It's a shame they went all the way to the Moon and just came back with rocks. Maybe when we go back again there will be a proper gift store where they could get a plastic Moon and a tee shirt. Nice video👌
The F5D piqued my interest, I'd not known it before and it's confusing as it's not a Northrop F-5 variant, it's a much older design than it looks. Only 4 were built, and 2 still exist.
FalconInFlight, I don't know what you are implying. What did I say about batteries that makes you comment? If you are one of those nutjobs who insists that insists the moon landings are a hoax, then I have nothing more to say to you.
Not sure why you think this is some sort of "Holy site", that Heaven forbid, would have some restaurants close to it. Be glad you have some dining options and accommodations conveniently located, as compared to touring the museums around Washington DC, which imho is not very tourist friendly due to lack of parking and lack of reasonably priced convenient amenities.
John Studd, don't be stupid. There is no reason to exaggerate my comment about how the area has been developed, and THEN get worked up about your own exaggeration as if it is something that I actually said.
@@youtuuba No you did not use those exact words, I was using hyperbole to demonstrate my not understanding that you would complain about a perfectly nice setup. I don't know what you expect or think should have been done there.
@@johnstudd4245 , use of hyperbole in communications such as this is ill-advised, because people will not reliably 'get it' or understand. It is best to write simply and clearly, and not assume that readers can read your mind in order to glean hidden meaning. In my video, I took note of a change in the surroundings from when I was last there. About the only opinion I offered besides that was a verbal wince at the rather crappy looking waffle house across the street, which being the nearest to the museum entrance, gives an initial impression of a rather crappy or worn down neighborhood. I did not actually SAY any of that, but those were my emotions at that instant. Then right there next door is this futuristic site with well tended green lawns, etc; It is definitely a contrast, and not a good one. Even if the waffle house was down the street a ways, it would have less potential negative impact on the visitor. I remain surprised that the city fathers, if they are aware of the tourist trade coming to their little town specifically to see this museum, might have planned to discourage or even disallow the immediate surrounds from having less desirable structures, businesses, etc. That is called 'zoning', and probably the majority of town and cities exercise it for just this kind of reason. Much like trying to avoid having an adult bookstore right next to a kiddieland attraction or library. I don't mean to imply that a waffle house is THAT bad, but in this instance it is a somewhat seedy looking structure, not maintained well, and unattractive.
@@youtuuba Well I was going to stop at my previous comment but your ignorance has made me rethink that idea. You obviously know nothing about zoning laws, how they are created or enforced. In order to allow a five-star dining establishment (which might be acceptable to you) to be built in this area, you cannot prohibit any other type of restaurant. Your comparison of an adult bookstore near a library or 'kiddeland' is is a red herring because in order to build such a business near the occupancy types you mention they would have to be in compliance with the allowable uses for the zoning district. The regulation of an adult rated business is easy, the limitation on a particular brand or style of restaurant, hotel or mercantile use is not. By the way, we have a representative form of government, not an authoritarian one. The 'city fathers' of Wapakoneta or any other unit of government in this country cannot simply dictate rules, there must be public input to determine what "we the people" want done in certain circumstances.
The plaque at the abase of the Space Suit said it was 3D printed from laser scans of the real one at the Smithsonian. So no, not the real one on loan. I enjoy the videos you put out but now do I need to worry about believing the facts you tells us too? I wanna believe brother, restore my faith.
Wow.....so much flap in the comments. I agree with Tuba Man. All that crap on the streets is cheap and diminishes other higher acheivements. I appreciate the vids as I won't be getting to those museums but love the tours. But, are you anti-mask, anti-vax? I hope not. I want you around a good long while. You do great work. Thanks!
Shawn Tromley, what are you talking about? I know the interstate was there before the museum, and I said nothing to the contrary. However, I did comment on the changes in how the surrounding area looks more built up now. Some people have commented that my memory must be bad, because all that stuff was 'always there', but I looked back in my old slides from an earlier visit, probably in the early 80s (?), and those images pretty much support my recollections.
@@youtuuba You are correct that many of the nearby businesses were built after your earlier visit (mid/late 90's for most). However, people watch these videos to learn something about the subject matter, not listen to your thoughts on urban development. Something I learned long ago is that if you want to preserve something like a view, buy it. Otherwise, accept what the future brings. And what else did I screw up? - You seem to imply that if I pronounced things better, it would make my videos 'more bearable'.....what a jerk. I lived 7 miles north of Wapakoneta from 1954 to 1972 and there were always hotels , a truckstop, and many fastfood restaurants in 1960's Guess what? They were already here before mr. Armstrong even was seated in a nasa vessel. For God sakes learn how to pronounce the name of the city correctly.
Phil Middaugh, I went back to my old slides of when I first visited this museum, and they show the immediate area was not as congested with businesses as it is now. Sometimes people living near a place don't notice the gradual changes that an occasional visitor does. And as for the pronunciation, I looked it up online before my visit and I said the way the online source did. Right or wrong, there appear to be at least two pronunciations in use. Certainly your exasperated and rude way of demanding that I learn your preferred pronunciation is uncalled for. Just offer a polite correction, and call it a day.

Just wondering if there was anything in there that Neil had signed? Thanks........

Probably best if edited with almost no sound throughout, then narrated later so as to not have to listen to all the crap chatter/noise
