- This is part one of a two part video, where I walk through the National Museum of the United States Air Force, aka the US Air Force Museum, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.
During my walk, I show many parts of the museum, and mention the names of most of the aircraft on display.
Make sure to continue with Part 2.......
I also have a companion video, where I do a walk through of the National Air & Space Museum, both the locations (National Mall and Udvar-Hazy at Dulles Airport). - Хобби
My favorite plane of all time is a b29 and to see the inside of one is amazing thanks you so much
I am a big fan of your walkthrough visits of museums. Your voice adds to the ambiance of the walkthroughs . Thank you for your excellent service . 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I was just here two days ago...I loved your walkthrough...thank you for your service
THANK YOU! I'm not even 15 minutes into your truly absorbing video, and loving every moment! With part-2 I'm looking forward to spending 2 and a half hours of my life drooling. (No better way).
Thanks for the videos brother!
I'll be planning a visit to that beautiful museum pretty soon with my family!
Thanks for this upload! It's been 25 years since my last visit.
At 18:30 is a Beechcraft Staggerwing (hanging above the B-26) that my grandfather donated to the museum. It used to be on the ground with a plaque. Really cool to see it again.
Wow that’s cool, when I go today I could see it
You have a great voice, it gave the walk through a professional feel.
You've gotta be kidding me! As with all of his other videos, his voice is better enjoyed with the volume turned off.
So glad I went to see Bockscar B-29!
National Museum of the US Air Force is a great day trip. I've been here many times because I was born in Dayton. The first time I came here was probably in 1960 when the collection was mostly outdoors in Area A on WPAFB. I can't recall the year it moved down the hill to Area B, but it's a very extensive collection now.
I'm glad the collection was moved inside, where the historic aircraft can be preserved in a climate-controlled environment. When I was growing up, the SAC Museum outside of Offutt AFB near Omaha was outdoors as well. It has also moved inside.
Also, the starting train sounds track well
49:30 love the display on Gen. Robin Olds! His daughter now lives in the Boise area and is frequently at the Warhawk Air Museum in Nampa, where I volunteer. Thanks so much for posting this video for those of us who haven't been there yet!
Neat, I was there in 1990, a lot of changes. I took a lot of pictures, but they all came out dark. Great to see this video. Thanks!!!
I really love the Air Force Museum I was there last year and it was so fun and I love that you are giving a tour of the Air Force Museum because some people can’t go there
Great tour! I am planning to visit during the next total eclipse!
Thank you for a nice 👍 tour
You were running around my turf. I live in Columbus but my husband and I absolutely love going to the museum. It's a great day trip since it's only an hour away.
I appreciate the upload. Hopefully I'll be able to come here in the near future
Spitfire...the first one you filmed was a photo reconnaissance version which was optimised for high flight and speed, so much they even removed the screen armour...great documentary film on the US using it - our great allies and friends.
Thanks for this one. I toured this on August 9th 1995, the 50th anniversary of the Nagasaki bombing. It was very moving. I was local on a business trip and had no camera or anything. Too far of a trip to go back. This will have to do for now.
Amazing.....
i like it you report and review aeroplane
funny you said that about wanting to serve on a boxcar. I've always had a soft spot for the mid-sized cargo planes post ww2. It made me smile.
Wow, looks amazing thankyou, best wishes from Blighty.
I flown up there twice from a Texas to see it and it is magnificent, I’ll be going again before the winter is over. I spent have day just on the B-52
The restoration Squadron is top notch! They just finished the restoration of the Memphis Belle. They also have the parts for the last remaining XC-66, cargo version of the B-36.
Thanks for the video. Will be tnere in 4 days with grandson. Dad was in the Army Airforce before it became stand alone. We live near Yankee Air force . Flew on the B 17 and C130
thanks for posting this video! I heard about this place about a month ago and planning a trip down there !
Chris Jennings . I recommend it highly. It’s a great place to go
I remember my last visit here in 1993 or 1994. We went on a school field trip here when I was in 4th grade. I remember we had toured a few of the buildings and went to the theatre to watch a documentary when MPs came in with dogs and their M16s slung around front and them telling us to evacuate. Our teachers told us there had been a bomb threat and, rather unsurprisingly, the MPs were not going to take any risks. I can't wait to go back and actually finish my tour and this is a great primer for me to get an idea of where to start and focus. Thanks!
Just wanted to say I really enjoy your videos and museum walk thrus this one and the great lakes museum helped me thru what was the worst day of my life was very depressed my mom had just passed Way three days before and that day it had really sunk in and was not in a good state at all couldn't do anything except watch RUclips and came across this video and it kept my mind off of it and allowed me to make it through that horrible day you never k ow how your content can be a literal lifesaver for someone in need of a steady voice and alot of cool aircraft I thank you for your content please don't stop making awesome . videos
Thanks for the video. Looking for something to take my kid too and I haven't been since I was a kid so I wanted to see if it was something he'd like. He'll love this
Hi, i have never seen so many aircraft in one video !
Very interesting! Very nice video!👍👍👍👍👍
Greetings and best wishes!
Such a great museum
I love that museum.
really well done commentary and photography, congrats
it has certainly changed since i went there in 1983.
time to go to Ohio again
i love the video oh and also patches was one of the planes my grandpa worked on his name was cecil jenkins
I love this museum I'm going in 2 days. Since dayton is about only an hour away from ottawa glandorf and my grandparents and cousins live in dayton
I live right next door to Shoreham airfield in UK, its one of Britains oldest airfields.
I live in Toronto. They have a Lancaster in Hamilton that gives rides.
I see it all the time flies all summer. I was going to take my Dad for a ride before he passed, but at that time I believe one ticket for a one hour flight cost 1100 dollars. Now it costs 3500/ passenger. One hour flight.
I went through something like this that was a mobile exhibit in the late 50s. I don't remember if it was a B29 or 36. I remember entering the same way and there were tons of instruments.
The "Dennis the Menace" is an F-86D sabre looks more like the yF-95 than the F-86A predecessor in the Korean War
Been there great military museum.
This guy narrating sounds spooky close to phil schneider. Gives me the chills.
i love that place been there twice
Very cool place and for the men who fly these planes back then.
I’ve been to the Darwin Aviation Museum where they have the only B 52 outside of the US and it’s awesome to see close up and which happens to be my favourite aircraft . But this museum is completely out of this world . Greetings from Melbourne Australia .
There is a B52 & SR71 etc in the American hall at the Duxford Museum in UK ~ But its not free
Yes Andy B I had a look at some images of Duxford and you have a lot of aircraft especially another of my special aircraft .the Vulcan .Ours is a small museum compared to Duxford but I missed visiting it when I was in England some years back .I visited the IWM at Elephant and Castle but no one told me about Duxford . By the way our B52; is under cover and takes up the whole hangar . Everytime I visit Darwin which is every year I always go to the museum to be up close to the B52 cos Darwin is my fav .place in Australia . The entrance fee is 10 dollars for me being a senior citizen and if I go back within a month it’s free .Cheers from Australia .
In 2002 there was no lighting problem. They had windows that let in indirect ambient light. It was a great time. I was there in 2016 and it sucked.
Maravilhoso ☆
.....i love america...
There other Catalina is here in Oregon but its not available for rides yet!
As a local I will say that the lighting is no longer up to code to be used in the 1st 2 hangers and they are currently working to fix and add lights.
Because of the Epidemic, I've been playing GMOD, and flying planes, and realized I find tem to be very interesting. I wanted to go here, but realized. Boutta watch this whole series.
You just made me realize how long this pandemic has gone on. If you haven’t found it already, DCS and war thunder are good flight sims.
@@potatopower707 I was thinking of getting war thunder recently, maybe I will.
@@DaytonDistrictRailfan wel, its free. the sim version of it kind of sucks, but the realistic game mode is a good balance between sim and arcade. there is also tanks. The good thing about war thunder is that they model it kind of like DCS. the planes and tanks can get certain parts punctured and ripped off. your pilot can get shot, but you can still fly the thing home. the tanks are the same way, with pretty realistic armor. none of it is health based.
That F-4 is SCAT27, Colonel Robin Olds plane at Ubon, Thailand, very historic…
That was my favorite plane growing up. But it didn't have a very long Service record
The WW2 hanger looks soooo different without the Memphis Belle there. It is easily one of my favorites
Where did the Belle go?
Charles, the Memphis Belle was only recently added to the AF Museum. It used to be in Memphis, and was moved to the museum where it underwent years of restoration, then moved to its current location. If you remembered a B-17 at THIS museum, it was not the Belle.
@@youtuuba i was saying that cause last 2 times I've gone, she's been there. So it looks different without her
@@Charles-F , the Memphis Belle was first put on display in May 2018, in the WWII gallery of the Air Force Museum, and it is still there.
The PBY Catalina is an original OA-10 Army Air Corps/Army Air Force model
At 1:02:45, the shape of that nose told me it couldn't be an F-86 Sabre...at least without more to the story. Turns out it's a North American F-86D version in which a highly sophisticated electronic system replaced the second crewmember. The distinctive nose of the earlier F-86s was re-shaped to enclose the radar, resulting in a version called the Sabre Dog.
It had an elliptical air intake .
I looooove the p38
Thanks!
fast forward part was funny lol
Bro I went there with my grandpa who was in the airforce for some time and I had a great time. Saw airforce one, the B-2 bomber, got in a simulation of a fighter jet with my brother but he went intervened and it was a blast. I saw so much. If you want to go, you should.
Hrmm, wonder how many Billion worth of planes, gear, and art are in that museum. Still the best I have ever seen by a large margin unless you want space related, then head down to Florida.
I went the other day and it was open
About the Lancaster Canada does but so does the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. But that’s owned by the RAF so chances of getting on that one are slim
muy buen video, pude visitar ese museo mas de una vez y este video me trae muy buenos recuerdos! gracias
Is the mock up F-4/F-16 cockpits still there?
No I didn't see any cockpits accssiable to the people. This was very recently ago.
So many Manufacturers of Aircraft.
this is my dream to visit here
I have seen some videos where the planes appear static but are actually flown sometimes. You mentioned these are moved around from time to time. I presume that doesn't mean so some can get outside to fly for demonstration or to keep the parts working.
Dan Mathers, the AF Museum does not fly their aircraft; once there, they are done with flying. The museum does rearrange the planes from time to time, especially when they add another building.
You got a couple of the aircraft wrong; the Dragonfly is an A-37 based on the T-37 Tweet trainer, not an A-36 and the Boxcar is C-119, the C-123 was the aircraft you showed just before it in your walk through. I still gave you a👍
You know what the weird thing is I could have been in the same place at the same time because I was very close to this and Springfield and I would live there if I could
Just went today.
my dad flew the c-123 cased patches on it's first tour of vietnam
I have not seen Youtuuba videos recently, 01/27/2021. Would like to see more. TY
Dan Mathers, funny, I have added two new videos this month already......
Does nVidia make missiles? Are they military tools?
I thought there was supposed to be some artifacts form the B-24 Libarator "Lady Be Good" there. You know the one that crashed in the Lybian Desert in 1943.
There is a exhibit on the Lady Be Good - back wall of the WW2 gallery near the "Strawberry Bitch" B-24. Just a couple of display cases so this quick walkthrough may have missed it.
@@vicqruiz4630 Ok thanks
do they have the planes the Women in WWII flew? ( I think the squadren is the wasps )
I believe the WASPs (Women Airforce Service Pilots) were mostly used to ferry new aircraft from place to place, as well as test aircraft and help train new pilots. They flew every type of plane used in the war, but were not combat pilots. The Russians did have women in combat roles in World War II, dubbed "The Night Witches."
My favorite was the me262
I love this place but it is long time between times I am there
There are two kinds of people in the world; those who lament that opportunities for good things don't seem to happen to them, and those who make it their business to arrange for good things to happen to them.
If you really want to visit this museum, then go there and visit. Why wait until you happen to be there for some other reason?
Yo I’ve been there before and let me tell u guys it’s so damn worth it u got free entry and it’s just massive there stuff from 1908 to today’s aircraft and equipment
You need at least 4 days to see it all! Soak it all in
Anybody knows whether the lighting has improved? I´m thinking of going.
Klaus Møller-Nielsen The lighting is not great for photography. It's dim in general, but to the naked eye you adjust quickly. It's been that way for as long as anyone can remember.
ok thanks good to know
I didn't see the Roswell wreckage, did they make you edit that part?
Unfortunately, due to safety concerns, the matter-antimatter propulsion system must remain within the containment unit specifically built for it at Area-53.
If they were here and I missed them I apologize but I don't remember seeing a B47, a F-102 and a F-106
I like your museum tours. Do you wear a Go Pro on your head?
KevieO, I carry a regular digital camera around. If I used a GoPro the video would be a lot less stable, with a lot more quick panning around and such.
Very stable and good audio. Do your hands get tired
There’s lots of WWI aircraft here too.
I’m sure I saw the Enola Gay @ Dulles. Is there more than one or are they replicas?
I'd love to fly an F4U Corsair. "Whistling death."
I Love air Museums. We were way behind when the 2 w w broke out . We still had Bi Planes
It was a C-46 Commando. I can tell by the obscure models you ID that you actually knew that.
The A/C he called a Curtis C-47 Commando looks like a C-46?
Apparently I accidentally said the wrong aircraft designation in my video. Accidents happen. I do know the difference.
Nice video! Thanks! I was just there last week and I missed a lot of that. I was looking through rose tinted glasses though, not realizing how bad it was in there, because your eyes adjust, but cameras can't (as well) and I didn't really know how bad the photos were until I got them home to look at them. It has always been hard to take pictures in there, but after seeing what the lighting can be as shown in the new hangar, I just really can't believe how bad it is. Then the catwalks you mentioned, well, I watched your NASM video and holy crap it just puts the AF museum to shame! Not only that but it has been that good for a long time!
The AF museum has come a long way, however, it certainly could be a lot better!
Another thing that irks me is why they need to have 4 Fantoms and 3 F111? While so many more interesting planes are hung from ceiling and hid in corners?
The layout has improved since you been there, but it is still lacking. I just hope they spend less on new restorations and more on the improvement of what they have. You are right though, I mean I am 6 foot tall so I probably take it for granted but most people are staring at the bottoms of planes most times, which is ridiculous considering that is the least appealing side.
Seeing the 4k Drone video after these and yeah you miss so much of the museum the way it is set up atm.
Cheers M8, look forward to seeing your other videos and what is to come!
Although informative, the free e are a couple of points I wish to make. I dont consider the museum to be on the outskirts, rather it is on the base proper. It was also mentioned there are a few exhibits relating prior to the US Air Force coming into it's own. In fact, there are very many, including every military aircraft and some civilian prior to Sept 1947, which the month and year the USAF became it's own military branch. Prior to that it was part of the army
jack ward, what a private individual considers to be on the base or not is irrelevant. The museum is certainly outside of the secure part of the base, and that is what is important to visitors. Used to be that the experimental planes and presidential planes were all on the secure part of the base, and visitors who were not US citizens could not see them, and visitors with disabilities also could not visit there.
When I referred to the air force coming into its own, I am sure that I meant when it was just the Army flying planes, NOT during the WWII US Army Air Corps era.
I spent 3 days there
My back was killing me but it was worth it
S Gains, my back also hurts when I visit this museum. That is why when I arrive I immediately buy tickets to the theater, morning and afternoon, and those plus lunch give me three spaced apart rest periods
@@youtuuba thanks for your tip. For all of us not in tip top condition. And though I barely missed it a few yrs ago. It's still on my vacation list
Are almost all the planes in shadows?
Actually some of the aircraft in the early years gallery are original
Hurricanes very similar to our Mustang
rusty, yes, they are both WWII single engine fighter aircraft. Beyond that "very similar" is highly subjective.
I was there for 3 days what a beautiful museum
I even met the assistant to the museum director
Thanks for posting
I am upprised they did not shw a P 38 lightning.
You've been on quite an odyssey lately.
Leland Rogers, yes I had a weekend trip to Michigan and then a one week driving vacation to Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania. I will soon be doing the AMTRAK Empire Builder, and some museums in Seattle, and expect a number of RUclips videos to come from that trip.
XD my name is Leland but people call me alex
There is alot of famous USAF aircraft at this museum.
Was that the XF-1 next to the B29?
ARE a lot of famous aircraft.....
Can you do an update video's?
I HAVE done update videos on this museum.
