37:29 You briefly see the sign and photo on the left here, but this is the spot on the plane where President Johnson was sworn into office, with Jackie Kennedy beside him, still in her blood stained dress. That infamous photo was taken in that spot. And just as you exit the rear of the plane on the right is where they temporarily removed seats from the plane to fit Kennedy’s casket inside the plane for his ride back to DC from Love Field. It is tough to stop and read when people are behind you because the walkway is too narrow to pass people. You feel like you have to hurry to keep the line moving. It’s probably the most popular plane in the museum. The sister plane is at the Regan museum in CA.
As a volunteer at this museum, this is the oldest (100 yrs old) and largest military aviation museum in the world. You skipped over Bockscar, the plane that ended WWII with the bombing of Nagasaki, and the XB70 Valkyrie, the SR71 Blackbird. There's so much to see.
I had been there a few times in the 90s and loved all the aircraft and spacecraft you can see. I later moved out to Virginia after college and first saw the Air & Space museum in Washington DC and then when they built it, the extension called the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center very near me. That one is an awesome place. They even have a Space Shuttle.
Jacob I hope you see this message some how. Thank you so much for going back to this museum! My father who was retired Air Force wanted to take me here but im disabled and dont travel well anymore. Dad passed away a little over a year and a half ago and we never got to go. But it was really nice to "tour" the museum through the eyes of a travel youtuber I admire like you. Love your channel
Thanks Jacob for going to the Airforce museum! I voted for this attraction. We visited once about 5 years ago when staying with my boyfriend's brother and sister in law in KY. I am going to watch this again with my boyfriend who loves war planes.
Thank you for including the B-24 Liberator named "Strawberry (expletive)" - she is a gem in their collection that everyone who visits always remembers because of her nose art.
She's one of only 13 existing Liberators remaining. I did a personal tour for a group, one of whom was the daughter of the tail gunner on Strawberry B!
I was driving home during a weekend trip when I decided to stop here. I didn't know what to expect, but I'm glad I stopped. It's an excellent place to spend a few hours.
We went on a field trip here in about the third grade, and I remember our teacher stood awkwardly in front of one plane as we passed it, trying to block one of the more risqué artworks on the nose of the plane. Of course it just made us try really hard to see what she was trying to hide!
I am lucky enough to live just 2 hours away from this place (i live in Cincinnati), as a Military aviation nerd this place is the site of many "holy relics" of sorts, it even has my favorite aircraft of all time, the YF-23!
The museum is basically my back yard. It’s awesome. I get to see so many amazing old (and not so old) airplanes flying around at various times of the year. Everyone should see it at least once.
I hope you were joking about the Memphis Bell ,the Bell flew the most bombing missions, I think 25 or so during the war and made it home with all crew doing world war 2 ! Jake there is a movie about it 😁
Actually there were 2 films about the Belle. The WWII documentary by William Wyler, & the 1990 feature film directed by Catherine Wyler, his daughter. Starred Matthew Modine, Billy Zane, Harry Connick Jr, John Lithgow.
37:34 right behind you was the saw marks where they cut away part of the interior to fit JFKs casket to fly back from Dallas. Jackie refused to put him in the cargo hold so they modified the interior right by the exit. I grew up in Dayton and my dad would take me every week for many years.
I used to have a private pilot's license, worked for aerospace companies, and am an aviation museum aficionado. The Air Force Museum in Dayton is the best aviation museum out there.
Great to see you in Dayton, Ohio. I was raised 30 miles north of there. My family and I now reside outside of Tampa, Florida. You always go to the best locations for us, and your channel, thank you, and safe travels.
@13:35 the aircraft with the shark mouth nose art is a Curtiss P-40B Warhawk flown by the American Flying Tigers First American Volunteer Group (AVG). They saw a color photo in a newspaper of a shark mouth painted on a 112 Squadron P-40 fighter in North Africa and immediately adopted the shark-face motif for their own P-40Bs.
My brother and I took my dad who is an air force vet here several years ago and loved it. He showed us planes he had ridden on and other things he had worked on when he was in the air force. I had also went there when I was a young kid when it first had opened and many of the planes were outside on display as I think there was only 1 hangar at that time . I have some old postcards and a book from back then .. I wanna go back and spend more time there someday its a pretty cool place !
That Dinosaurs in Motion exhibit is pretty awesome, but man oh man would I have sensory overload and a massive headache from all the squeaking and clacking!!! So glad I can experience attractions like this through your videos where I can control the volume.
Used to clean the museum with a crew from 4am until 8am. Haunting to be in there when it is dark and quiet. Especially around a lot of the serious displays and WW2 aircraft. Not saying anything is haunted but it can feel like it at times. Thanks for coming to the museum! Appreciate all you do!
One of my favorite military museums. Also you need to go back to the Cincinnati Museum Center. They recently opened their Ordovician exhibit with some cool stuff on display.
Nice to see you visit the best Air Force Museum in the world! My grandfather was a decorated Air Force Veteran who took part in bombing missions in the B-24. His plane was shot down during a mission in northern Italy. He was taken prisoner by the Nazis and transported to the city of Barth in northern Germany. He was freed by the Russians after six months in captivity. After returning home from the war my grandfather finished his career working at WPAFB as a mechanical engineer helping develop the engine for stealth aircraft that was introduced in the late 1970s.
Jacob- The US Army Transportation Museum at Ft. Eustis, Virginia is one of the BEST I have ever seen!! Despite it sounding like it would be incredibly boring, it's phenomenal. There's a great Tank Museum in Danville, VA as well.
You are actually in Riverside, Ohio. The museum has over a Million visitors a year. The land it sits on was originally a test target range for Army Air Corps in the 30's & 40's. There are 5 hangers due east on the field where the planes are restored. The hangers were hit by a tornado 2 weeks ago and it was the first time in over 55 years we saw all 5 hanger bay doors open at the same time.
Wow, you made it to Air Force Museum! I was just there, I live very close to it. Did you see the Air Force jets fly over? It was very windy yesterday! Thanks for the video Jacob!
Thank you for this Jacob! My dad was a B17 tailgunner in WWII flying 33 missions over germany. I feel like I've seen some of the very things he talked about. He's been gone awhile so this was a really fun UNEXPECTED vid!
I hope you went to the other Museum in Dayton. The one that has the Wright Brothers shop in it and the 2nd airplane ever flown, still in original condition. The one in DC, the 1st plane, has been reskinned a few times as the original was cut to pieces by souvenir hunters. Go see the movie The Memphis Belle, not the commercial one, the one the military produced during the war....
Interesting point about the Airforce one in this museum. When JFK was assinated the crew used a hacksaw to clear a section of the cabin to transport his casket because they didn't want to put him in the cargo hold.
I remember going with my dad, grandma, and grandpa in the 80s and took a pic in front of the Strawberry B....H and said it has a bad word on it and didn't want to take the picture in front of it ...Great Memories...RIP grandpa
There is a movie about Memphis Belle. Very good movie and worth your time to watch. Once that plane got to Wright Patterson AFB it took 5 or more years to restore it to the original condition you see it in now. The items that POW's and Soldiers make during war are called Trench Art. That space shuttle mock up actually houses a flight trainer up front. Not sure if you walked thru the Enola Gay. It was one of the planes that dropped an Atomic bomb on Japan. I am sure if you did you would have showed it. Also they have the Hanoi Taxi C 130 that was used to bring home prisoners of war from Vietnam. Many other very historical planes are housed in a building they call the Annex that you have to get on a shuttle to go see.
Thanks Mike! Twelve year restoration for Boeing B-17F Memphis Belle and she is a national treasure! Thank you for mentioning some of the must see aircraft here!!!
Not sure if these are still there, but there used to be Anakin's Star Wars Pod Racer. There also was a tiny display of some 'alien encounter stories etc.' but was pretty hidden and out of the way of other displays.

Years ago they had several more Air Force Ones from other presidents that you could go in as well. The JFK Plane, had a plaque that showed you where they had to modify the plane to bring his casket on board. Just before you got off the plane, I think I saw the plaque on the left side, you can see Jackie Kennedy in the picture on the glass.
We have the largest Presidential collection in the country with 10 aircraft on display. We have a photo of LBJ taking the oath and Mrs. Kennedy by his side.
The last time I was there they had an Apollo command module that went to the moon also a Soviet capsule on another trip. The displays change frequently so don't hesitate to go back again and again! History galore all for free!
28:32 lol you were practicing your solute in the women’s uniform. I was hoping to see if you filmed the O-2 Skymaster in the Vietnam area. I’m restoring one back to flying condition.

I was hoping he'd talk about the XB-70 Valkyrie! My favorite display there!
Damn I need to find a video for that ! Being in the uk I don’t think I’ll ever be able to see this museum
@@scottogden6301 I've got a series of videos on my channel from the museum.

Is it actually free to go there now?
My grandfather's cargo plane is there, first time I've ever saw my dad cry
That's actually really nice that it'd preserved there . Was it shown in the video?
@@Retromicky82 Sadly, no
Wow, you’re real close to me!
Which plane is it? It's very similar to how there's a steam locomotive that my great-great grandfather drove that's been preserved.
@AnimalsVehiclesAndMore I'm not exactly sure, I know what it looks like, but don't know what it is called

if you do get a chance to go , it is very handicap friendly . they have free ecv and wheelchairs to borow and will go out of their way to help you.
