Looks dope! I think I'd rather have a ribbon strip for the mod wheel but watching you use the pressure pad is convincing. Will definitely pick this up if I have any leftover cash after buying x-mas gifts this year, I'd definitely get a lot of use out of it. Would also be nice to find a nice case for it to give a bit of peace of mind when tossing it in my backpack.
I don’t think I’ll be buying one, but good luck to the developers. I have an ATOM SQ, which I use with my iPad, and a Keystep 37, which I use with my Mac. I’ve got sausage fingers and sometimes hit 2 keys at same time when I don’t want to. The keys on the Monkey are tiny, so I don’t think I’d be able to play it, but it looks like something some will find useful.
Great video as always Jakob. I have an old Oxygen MK3, looking for a smaller bluetooth option. The Nanokey studio is probably much more practical but there's something about the Monkey that's really appealing, not sure how I'd get on with those small buttons though
Its definitely not everyone’s cup of tea. I’ve tried a lot of different types of keyboards and the ones with regular keys ever really melded with me. Same with the Roli keyboards. Button and pad controllers worked better and that’s why I ended up with the KORG nano stuff. . I like the interface for the OP1 and OP1f for the same reason. Like working with old style computer-style keyboard buttons. I’m also in love with!pocket operators and that’s a very different story button wise and the buttons on the Monkey feel the same. 😅 . It’s different for everyone. Only way to really know is to try out. Hard to judge without actually putting hands or fingers on the thing.
I would buy one if I didnt already have a BT mini keyboard. The looper might make it a convenient “must have” for some people. I think a bigger one with more pressure controllers would win people… maybe a poly aftetouch keyboard?
It’s nifty stuff like the midi effects and looper that made me raise an eyebrow first. And then I saw the button interface which feels extremely pocket-ish and the fact that it was so tiny, plus gorgeous graphics and runs on a tiny battery. Love stuff like this.
Battery sits snuggly in there during transport. I even tried hitting the keyboard against a book (as to not chip it or anything) but it took quite a few relatively hard hits to get the battery to pop out. It won’t pop out on its own. . When it comes to the board the components sit on it’s FR4 (common circuit board material) like a lot of other stuff (PO’s etc). The buttons are SMD’S mounted with solder and so that’s always sensitive of course. Now, I’ve been using like a leather sleeve/pouch to keep it safe. . I wouldn’t recommend throwing this thing into the bottom of a bag and then ramping stuff into the back. It can definitely get damaged if you do that. But no, I don’t feel like it’s flimsy. I feel more nervous about putting a pocket operator into my bag since it also has a screen that can break. But otherwise it feels the same. . Like having an exposed circuit board in your pocket. 😄
Great, but are there any good bluetooth controllers with knobs, encoders and buttons? I have CME WIDI UHOST. Working excelent with anything having usb port. But sometimes I think I want some more knobs 😂 maybe battery powered, so no cables. Edit: I know about Korg Jakob is using.
There’s a bunch of smaller controllers out there that does BLE however it’s not many. I think the problem is that BLE having a pretty serious latency problem in the past made companies not seriously considering adding such a functionality to their bigger controllers. It’s a guess really but I think the tech is moving forward and we’ll start seeing more companies add it to their lineups.
@ what I really want is something like midi fighter twister but less functionality, maybe knobs instead encoders, maybe encoders. Battery powered and Bluetooth LE. At the moment my twister is sometimes on WIDI master. Works perfectly. Low latency. But it still needs cables. Why I use it this way? I hate ipad camera adapter. One move and it looses connection.
im looking for a Bluetooth midi controller keyboard and the only one i found is korg microkey air but when i tried to paired, it fail on my ipad pro 6th gen. is there any alternative? I got the korg nanokey studio but it's not really good to play piano
I yea not easy finding the right stuff sometime. There’s a lot of options but there’s always something not quite right when everything else might be perfect and vice versa. Have you ever had a look at or maybe tried out a Roli controller? They are different from regular controllers and also more pricey but definetly way more expressive. Plus they connect over Bluetooth too.
i can recommend the smk25 from mvave. I had the nanokey studio before, but couldn't get used to its keys. The smk25 is a bit bulkier, but still portable

Good luck to him I think he’ll need it, this is definitely not for me, but I’m sure some people will like it.
Very nice, thanks for the discovery. I just ordered one, looking forward to testing it and transform my old smartphone into a super cool synth!💣
This is an inspiring project. Thanks for sharing, Jakob!
Thanks bro! Yeah I can’t wait to see where they take this and what other projects might come out of it.
Interesting stuff, easy to bring along.
the price is amazing for how quirky it looks

Well done son, as always❤👍

It reminds me a lot of the controls on the Critter and Guitari pocket piano.
Man I wish that this coud easily connect to an M8 tracker but it would require a DIN connection.
Still super cool, I want one.

My fav! 🖤🤍🖤
How fragile is it, looks a bit flimsy? How well does the battery holder grip the battery is it a solid fit ?

@ ok cheers got a PO - 32 so that gives me some idea. Looks a cool little device
Thank you son for a very nice review🙏🙏🙏💓💓💓💓

Latency got solved for Bluetooth? A quarter second between RUclips mouth uttering and when the uttered sound arrives?
